Neat. First though just looking at the screenies, give use numbers in the tabs...

    [Normal (12/30)] [Shards (16/20)] [Keys (5)] [Ammo (3154/3200)]

    Maybe give options to show as used/total, free/total, free#, free%, used#, used%

The current plan is to stick that information into the tooltips for each tab. I'll try and stick in a current count for shards and ammo though.

Oh and needs some access to the actual bags, for upgrading and the like.

I didn't cover it in the screenshots, but:

You can download the beta here:
    http://code.google.com/p/tullamods/downloads/list?&q=combuctor

Note to self: Fix up the description.

So what the heck is Combuctor?
I suck at explaining stuff, so I'm going to use pictures.

    http://i20.tinypic.com/fp49yf.png
Combuctor is an all in one inventory type addon, with filters. As you can see from the shot, looks and functions like a Blizzard window (I'll make it movable eventually). Item slots dynamically resize to fit inside the frame. You can bring up the window by clicking on a bag, pressing a bag's hotkey, or pressing whatever hotkey you set for Combuctor.

    http://i20.tinypic.com/woj8l.png
Combuctor separates your inventory into tabs based on bag type. So if you're carrying around an ammo bag, there will be a tab for ammo, or if you're carrying around an engineering bag, there will be a tab for that.

    http://i21.tinypic.com/2uh1dhx.png
Combuctor also allows you to separate your inventory by item type, via buttons on the side of the frame. Right now those tabs are set to weapons, armoir, quote, consumables, trade goods, and miscellaneous. I plan on making them customizable later.

    http://i23.tinypic.com/2vaobd4.png
There's buttons at the bottom to filter by item quality. Click on the color you want to show (yes, I know Legendary isn't that useful for everyone right now :P).

    http://i24.tinypic.com/2qs2ddw.png
At the top is the text search box. In addition to matching items by name, it'll also pick up on types (ex, weapon), sub types (ex, swords), and equip locations (main hand, head, etc).

    Is there a bank frame?
Yes, and here's what it looks like:
    http://i12.tinypic.com/6317sbl.png

Can I look at stuff on my other characters?
If you have Bagnon_Forever installed (included in the download), you can see items on any character you've logged onto previously. Simply click on the player portrait in the inventory or bank frame to switch characters.

How do I move the frames?
alt + drag with the left button to move, alt + right click to reset to being a ui panel

There is a difference, but it's a pedantic/academic one at this point since everyone is pulling down the same versions from the same distribution point using the same tools. I'm willing to bet money that the majority of testers who are not developers are pulling down updates with an SVN client rather than an updater, and that they prefer it that way (I know I do).

The SVN is not the distribution point, it is a source for the wowace updater, files.wowace.com, and whatever SVN client a tester might be using. Based on what front end you're using, there should be a significant difference in expectations about the quality of code you're downloading.

I think the linking system would work better because otherwise you're guaranteed to have cowboy coders who check in untested, drycoded typos whose fixes don't show up in the dev version until the next sync happens

Committing untested code is bad practice, but such is the life of a tester :P

It is now! You're the one in denial, not me, because regardless of what you think, that's *exactly* what the WowAce SVN is being used for by a large number of end-users right now!

End users are using the wowace updater and files.wowace.com. Testers are using the SVN. They may be all pointed to the same place right now, but there is a significant difference.

I like the separate file method, if only because it makes it slightly easier to include a single copy of LibStub with multiple LibStub libraries.

really ? I remember ctra had that feature that raidleader/assistants could query the count of items like firepots and stuff from your inventory... this was enabled by default and many player did not even know that it existed since ctra was mainly about raid unitframes when they did not exist in the base ui. There was a small checkbox in one menu where you could disable answering querys if you knew about it.

Suppose that not every single person in your raid was using CTRA, but you really wanted to get everyone using the feature so that it would be useful to you. Would you sneak that functionality into something like LootLink to get more people using it?

The addons you've listed either rely on an opt in system (CTRA), or are just merely presenting information that's directly available by the game's API (Recount, BigBrother, etc). This is not the case with the talent sending functionality embedded in RockComm.

But again the main point is that the info that is being send here is public to begin with. Players have lost the privacy of this with the introduction of armory, not with the introduction of this feature. So say someone writes an addon that before wow launch farms armory for all specs and makes it available in-game. Perfectly doable. This would have _more_ functionality than what RockComm does and would have 0 "turn off" capacity by others. But the privacy impact of that addon would be the same? Why? Armory is public.

It is not what information is being sent, but how it is being sent. I hate to draw the parallel since it is so extreme, but RockComm is operating in a similar manner to spyware.

You can control it though, right? Thats what you want, isn't it? Control over what you broadcast. Which you have with RockComm, you have the control. Why does the default matter?

In the case we're looking at, having the functionality enabled by default is equivalent to sending that user's information without their consent, since a good bit of users are not going to be aware that their, say map addon, is sending information about them to other people.

It really does not matter that the information is/will be publicly available. Sneaking functionality into addons that sends information about users to others is a bad thing.

The code in the ace framework is hidden with purpose... because it's to catch people that loot in combat.. and nobody who loots in combat would install an addon that reveals that... so it's put in the framework to sneak it in everybody wow client.

There's something horribly wrong with that.

Not _really_ the fault of the addon/developer though since last time I checked all the addons that use Rock are beta and only obtainable through this site.

I downloaded and checked out the libraries in the most recent version of Cartographer on Curse. A cursory glance at RockComm shows that the talent sending code is present in the version. As an added bonus, the specific version of Cartographer does not have any method of disabling the code.

...like Rock sending that person's talent information without them knowing about it? :)

Setting notes is what I actually did with Tuller when leveling up. Here's some example conversations I got after I set one:

    leader: what spec are you?
    me: moonkin
    leader: can you heal?

    leader: what spec are you?
    me: moonkin
    leader: can you tank?
