All this is completely out of reach of the scripting engine.
We can't do anything about it.

The Blizzard suggestion forum, this is were you need to post this.

Actually, I originally posted this in the Official UI/Macro Forum. Quite a few mod authors said it was quite possible. :o

Disclaimer: I know nothing about LUA scripting but those that do that I've talked to have said this is possible...

    Extended Macros
An addon that allows more customization of macros, their tool tips and their comments.

    Features
    - Option to hide, show or recolor macro labels per button.
    - Option to filter macro input from chat channels.
    - Extended options allow for custom tool tips that include a custom header and description.
    - Option to add custom icons in .tga/.blp format.
    - Ability to parse comments dynamically, but in a similar manner to how the engine parses the macros themselves. See below:

    Example 1
This is just a simple macro that would Call or Dismiss a pet based on whether or not that pet is active. It would also adjust the icon dynamically based on that condition. In other words, once the pet is summoned, the icon automatically changes to the Dismiss Pet icon.

    # show [pet] Dismiss Pet; Call Pet
/cast [pet] Dismiss Pet; Call pet

In addition to this, there might be some modifiers to the "show" command that specify what is to be dynamically swapped or show.

    Example 2
In the following example, we only want the icon to change since we're using a custom tool tip:

    # show:icon [pet] Dismiss Pet; Call Pet
/cast [pet] Dismiss Pet; Call pet

These are just small examples, but the idea could be implemented in such a way to be a very, very useful add on. If only someone was interested in working on it. :/

Vote for the idea or something! :P

I tried this out and it works pretty well. I would like to request the option to customize channels' short names. :)
