posted a message on Addon packs

Are you guys going to bring back addon packs or is that thing gone for good?

If they're gone for good, is there any way to make the client download a bunch of other addons when people download a specific "config addon" made to work with them BUT if people remove them after that because they don't want a specific one from the lot, it doesn't just download it back?

I thought about putting them in the dependencies but the thing is the was made to work with an addon pack, its only purpose is to configure a bunch of addons, if people don't like a couple of them it's fine, the "config addon" serves it's purpose anyway and configures just the ones you kept.

So those addons from the pack are dependencies of the "config addon" in a way, though not 100% obligatory, but without any of them the "config addon" is useless, so since there is no more packs I was trying to figure out a way to auto-download the addons that the pack had when the "config addon" is downloaded, but not make them obligatory, this way people could just uninstall the ones they don't want (just like they did before with the pack) but updating the "config addon" wouldn't make them all reinstall or something.

Is this something that is possible at all?

     Seriously? Well that's awesome.
They don't have that on their documentation though. Not that I saw at least.
     Thanks

It would be amazing if the description and license on the addon page would also be updatable via de pkgmeta file, as is the changelog.

As it stands now, only the changelog file is used and that seems like a waste of time and resources. I for one always keep my changelog, readme (addon page description basically) and license markdown files updated, there's no reason why they couldn't be used on the addon page automatically when I send them via git.

    We could have:

    manual-changelog:
        filename: CHANGELOG.md
        markup-type: markdown

    manual-license:
        filename: LICENSE.md
        markup-type: markdown

    manual-description:
        filename: README.md
        markup-type: markdown

Also, I noticed that on the new website, the markdown on the changelog looks super bad, giant fonts etc, it was just perfect on the old site and it still is on the twitch app. For an example you can check one of my addons https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/m4x-goldtracker/changes, and check the same on the app to compare. The markdown file it self is correctly formatted.

Neither did I claim that implies you "could do whatever you like". That is not what open source means.

Actually, that's exactly what it means.

But in any case, like you said, having copies and copies of the same addons isn't good, it just clutters the system and makes no sense (and mods should not allow them, especially when they're clear copy pastes), so if a project is indeed abandoned AND needs updating (not just to change the TOC) then I think it's pretty much acceptable to take over it, preferably with the author's permission but that's not always something that one can get since many people just "disappear" you'll never get a reply from them.

You mean update of the app it self? Don't think that's possible.

posted a message on Set chat-setting via Lua/Addon?

I usually just copy the chat settings file to now chars so I have my chat window the same on all chars because I change a lot of it, BUT there are ways of changing chat settings with code, I never really went around checking how though :/

Best thing I can do is tell you to check https://mods.curse.com/addons/wow/eens-chat-window-backup and try to figure it out from there because what that addon does is backup the chat settings and then restore them to whatever char you want.

posted a message on Project page total downloads, files page downloads, not updating?

They've been packed with work :)

About the download numbers, I've had that problem before and what they told me was that the pages sync in pre-determined intervals, so for example on curseforge it says you have 100 downloads but on curse mods it says 70, nothing to worry, they'll sync when it gets to that pre-determined interval.

posted a message on What development stack do you use for creating an addon?

I've tried Atom and Sublime and ended up on Visual Studio Code.

    Faster than the other ones.

Has an extension for syntax highlight for WoW API.

Has a command line you can use to work with GIT stuff (or anything else you want to do, it's a command line), you can also do the GIT stuff on the UI, no need for command line, i'm just used to it and you can do more with it.

    Snippets.

Got mine working with a lua linter + an altered version of lua to match WoW's version of lua, so I have syntax errors and such.

    Hey man.

Is THIS a known issue? It appears after you get a toaster from stuff like friends coming online and things like that and then it just stays there.

he says the atlasloot thing also doesnt work for him... i dont have that problem... but i gess the other one must be the same problem.

i made a fresh install of both addons and it still happends... every time i delete the SavedVariables from atlas and atlasloot it works ok for one session, then its back to this.

i'm actually having the exact same problem... and it only appends in one of my chars.. so, it must mean that is some addon i only use in that char that is causing it. i've been 2 lazy to test it and atm my account is frozen.
but, for a temporary fix, you only need to delete the altas and altasloot savedvariables files.
