I've searched both here and using Google for a LUA-text that changes the colour of HP depending on the amount of it.
Example;
100% = Green
50% = Yellow
10% = Red

Is it even possible? Cause if not then I can stop looking for it. :)

You are looking for the HPColor helper function.

For example:
local cur, max = HP(unit), MaxHP(unit)
local r, g, b = HPColor(cur, max)
return "|cff%02x%02x%02x%s|r", r, g, b, cur

EDIT: You can find the complete listing of all the extra helper functions at the LuaTexts page within the PitBull WowAce project.

Anyone know if it's possible to filter auras based on whether or not the player has them? I've been trying to tidy up my UI. I'd really find it useful to hide all auras that I have so that they do not appear for any unit. My buffs and debuffs are displayed in the native Blizzard area, so I don't care to have duplicate entries shown elsewhere.

posted a message on SkillScore ?
It's an interesting problem, but with no deterministic algorithm to solve it.

I voted yes (skill > gear/achievements) in the poll, but that yes is conditional. I've been taking my Tree Druid into ToC 10/25 (normal only) even though he has Naxx25 gear with a few Ulduar and ToC pieces. Now, even though I can heal fairly well, I'm beginning to feel the limits of my awful gear (it's not my main toon, BTW). I'll never even try to step into Heroic-difficulty ToC 10/25 and I doubt he'll see the inside of Icecrown Citadel with his current access to gear.

In summary, I feel my "skilled" use of potions and cooldowns and my ability to not stand in fire helps to compensate for my current lack of good gear, but I'm at the limit now. My druid would likely answer "no" to the poll in patch 3.3.

Addons like GearScore only bother me in that they try to share their results using the addon channel, contributing to random disconnections during data-heavy raid encounters. Aside from that they are a tool for pre-made PUGs and my friends and guildies trust me when I volunteer to heal stuff.

Regarding addons that allow you to personally rate other players human-to-human, I don't know of any. However, I came across ZarkMark which is a website that collects these ratings. So if enough players use it then it would be a terrific service.

Yeah, the built-in Pitbull castbars are nice, but they are just inflexible enough to make me search for another solution. My main issue with the Pitbull ones is the shuffling that is caused when the castbar appears. But if you have it turned on all the time (no auto-hide) then it just sits there sucking up screen real estate for absolutely no purpose. For a while I treated the inactive castbar as something of a blank bar and I put a few texts there, but I ended up ditching it.

I'm using Castbars too now and I'm having the same problem. The layout I'd love to have involves the castbars occupying the same space as my unitframes (or maybe just my powerbar) and just being drawn over the top whenever a cast is happening. But the strata levels between Pitbull and Castbars isn't distinct enough and the unitframe is often drawn over the top.

There are a bunch of related tickets if you guys wanted to show support with votes / comments:
- 504: option to change strata
- 613: possible solution to transient bar ugliness (superimpose)
- 351: castbars separate from unitframes
- 398: hide bars on cast

Hmm, good suggestion GM2^7.

I was thinking about it today and I remembered seeing a LibBossID library (or something similarly named) floating past the WowAce home page recently. The problem is there are several encounters where the boss doesn't actually die (like The Keepers). And there are other weird encounters where the bosses can die in variable orders (Assembly of Iron), but that wouldn't be too difficult to manage.

If only there was a LibBossEncounter or something, that would instantly identify the encounter that was started, and determine a successful outcome. It would be terrific if it also tracked the encounter hierarchy, such as being able to group Thorim, Freya, Hodir and Mimiron as "The Keepers" and not expect General Vezax until The Keepers was checked off.

I dunno. It's just getting yuckier and yuckier. /sigh

Note also that it's possible to kill certain bosses without getting saved in 3.3, via the LFG random-dungeon system. Yet another whacky case for SavedInstances to figure out.

Okay, well, my first session of coding for quite a while. I'm really happy with what I've done to SavedInstances. v2.5-beta should be syndicating as I type this. If all goes well it should be a full release in a few days of testing.

My major concern with the setup interface was the "world of dropdowns" that I inflicted upon the user. All unnecessary dropdowns have been removed in favour of lists that are much friendly.

There is a new feature in this release: encounters! You can define encounters for each instance in the Instance tab. Then, you can tick them off in the Lockouts tab as you go along. Make sure you enable "Show encounters" in the general tab if you want to see this in the tooltip. I know this isn't automatic yet, but I think it will still be useful. Making it work without user intervention is a really really big task. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

So go go, download and test. And praise or complain. :)

There are a few around now. I'll shamelessly plug SavedInstances if you need something that can function as something of a shopping list. There's also Am I Saved which you could try out.

posted a message on Why do we call them "mirror bars"?
Thanks all for the good humour. :)

Thanks Tekkub and Chmee for your ideas, that does seem to be the common trait shared between these bars. The health and power bars go up and down all the time, the cast bar traditionally just goes up, and the breathe/fatigue/log traditionally count down.

I don't really play other games much, but does anyone know if mirror bars exist in other MMOs or other games?

I was explaining what the mirror bars (breathe, fatigue, log out) are to a guildie today, and it occurred to me that it's a really unexpected and unintuitive name for them. But then again, what other name could they use?

So, does anyone know the reason why we call them "mirror bars"? Is it some relic from an older MMO?

So I've gone and created a "perfect storm" here, I think. :P
I've split my addon code into several modules to make maintenance more convenient, and I'm using LDB, and I'm using LibQTip. :P

from my main addon:
function core:ShowTooltip(anchorframe)
if tooltip and tooltip:IsShown() then return end
tooltip = QTip:Acquire("blahaddon", 1, "LEFT")
tooltip:Clear()
...
tooltip:SetAutoHideDelay(0.1, anchorframe)
tooltip:SmartAnchorTo(anchorframe)
tooltip:Show()
end

from my ldb module:
local dataobject = LDB and LDB:NewDataObject("blahaddon", {
text = "",
type = "launcher",
})

function dataobject:OnEnter(self)
core:ShowTooltip(self)
end

This is really more of a LDB question I suppose, but you don't happen to know how I'm suppose to refer to the visual frame element that represents the data object? I've tried throwing in all sorts of crap into the OnEnter function, and I just can't get the tooltip to display anymore. Things were working fine in the one file, but I've already gone to so much trouble. :)

Basically, that line in bold either does nothing or throws errors depending on what parameter I pass. I've snooped through a few other addons already but no-one using LibQTip seems to be splitting files quite like me. Hmmm. Maybe I'm just not supposed to split the LDB stuff out like this... Hmmm...

For example, I have made a fader module which effectively 'hides' the player in a raid group (fully transparent) and allows me to have a 3x3 setup in 10 man raids. Unfortunately the unit frame is still there, just invisible.
Would it be possible to also set the unit's 'Click through' property (or whatever it is called) based on a simple UnitIsUnit check?
If it is already possible, what module type will I need to use as a base?

I doubt this can be done while in-combat. Imagine having a stack of frames all on top of each other, and dynamic control over the click-through property so that you are always clicking on whoever needs healing. That's exactly the sort of thing Blizzard would make impossible. Visual properties of secure frames can be modified while in-combat, but no mechanical changes unfortunately.

Any word on whether or not we'll be getting manual control over Curse Profiler uploads? I'm noticing the in-game memory usage of the addon is starting to climb again and I have no idea what exactly I have to do to get it to dump over to you guys. I've tried having CC4 open from before the game is launched until after I exit and nothing changes.

I really want to help submit information to the Curse DB, but if the addon WTF keeps getting bigger and bigger then I'm just going to have to stop. :S

Is it just me, or does CC4 keep creating a desktop shortcut for itself? It's sort of annoying. When I throw an icon in the bin I expect it to stay there, LOL. ;)

Just today I posted a ticket:
609 improved (configurable) visual heal

There have been a few little comments here and there about where the Visual Heal modules were going, and I thought now was a good time to jump in on the topic of presentation. Especially seeing as I couldn't find a ticket to this effect before today.

OMG! Self-quote! LOL!

Anyhow, I've abandoned that ticket because it became clear to me it was dealing with multiple issues, which is a big no-no when it comes to filing tickets. So, that single ticket as been replaced with the following:
- 611 option to disable overheals displayed by Visual Heal
- 612 option to display Visual Heal as a Bar and configure it just like all other Bars
- 613 option to superimpose a Bar over another

Note that 613 has the potential to close 3 other tickets (mentioned in the ticket itself), because we would have a general way to prevent the ugly shifting and resizing of Bars when temporary ones pop in and out. The Cast Bar is the most obvious offender, but this general solution could be applied by players to many other nuisance Bars that we can't live without. :)
