I'm an avid entomology enthusiast, and I find the lack of ambient insects in minecraft quite disheartening. I know they've added bees, but they look pretty chonky, and I'd like to create a mod that adds a whole plethora of various insects and other arthropods.

    Here's the idea:

-To save on memory, insects wont be fully rendered animated models in the overworld, instead they would be a couple pixels wide, or possibly even just flat textures (again a couple pixels wide because most bugs are quite small)

-You would catch these with a net or a pair of specialised tongs and they could be stored in plastic carriers so that you can basically see a bug that is a new color/size, catch it while you're out and take it home.

-The individual insects would only reveal their true model once you've got them under a kind of entomology workbench or use a magnifying glass on them. (I would love to be able to work on the models myself, I know a lot about insect anatomy and I've already started work on a quite detailed devils flower mantis model, I just need to find a way to scale it down a bit)

-You can keep bugs you've caught in their own enclosures (possibly even breed them or watch them grow up and change color/size/shape)

-here's the kicker, if you kill these bugs they dont drop anything, if you let them starve they drop very poor quality husks, if you keep them properly fed they'll drop mundane husks, and if you enrich their food and place certain things in their habitat they'll drop husks with powerful aspects. These aspects can be effected by the size and quality of the specimen or by the rarity of the insect. It would encourage people to find specific biomes in order to discover new species and obtain their power.

    - maybe ditch the magic and keep a fun little ambient mod that introduces new, beautiful pets. Maybe there could be a growth potion to turn them into formidable followers/mounts (i am not personally a big fan of the oversized bugs thing, but I see how it would be fun)

This is a lot I know, I want to start small and see where it goes from there, for now, i'd really just like to see some bugs in minecraft that aren't megafauna that you have to kill, or big blocky weird animals that barely resemble their real life counterparts.

Anyways, I can do modeling, and maybe learn the animations, theres a lot I'd like to implement, i don't know how doable that is, but I'm willing to give it a shot if anyone else finds this interesting.
