    Honestly, the easiest way to read lua is with lua. And writing lua using lua is also quite easy.

    i expected that, thats why i was thinking to do it ingame. but actually the possibilty to use lua outside game didnt even occur to me ... i dont even know how you could run lua w/o a game under it. |-)

    @moonwitch
    thats why i wanted it in mysql first place, because i know php/mysql
    But want to learn more Java and C++

    @pastamancer
    thank you i will take a look and try to understand it. Unfortunately Perl i know least :-(

    I have taken a step back from getting a "universal" parser. I guess best would be to make a specific "parser" for each type of sv.lua
    Or better a specific conf file for each type.

    To clearify my idea i want sth like that:

    1. read account1/sv.lua
    2. choose part/subpart of account1/sv.lua
    3. choose an account2/sv.lua
    4. paste part/subpart of account1/sv.lua into correct position of account2/sv.lua

    * another option could be an "grafical" overview over the things that are saved. (including a function to transform coordinates and data into a human readable format)
    * mass-cleaning of data (removing e.g. german entries)
    * ...

    well so far my idea/feature list. ;-)

    Hello,

    thanks for answering.

    My main problem is language-independent. reading a sv.lua and making something reasonable out of it. (pref. MySQL)
    I simply dont know enough to be able to write a parser. And i dont find any information about such a task.

    I experimented with wow2lua parser, but i dont understand that thing completely, and then its more or less worthless, since it does not parse all luas and i wont be able to maintain it.

    one thing i just noticed, after a one-button. And a sticky-progress-bar, i cant delete an addon. and a rightclick gives:

    Traceback (most recent call last):

    posted a message on Basic Question: Parsing of SV.lua in/out game
    Hi,

    i would like to try to make a Tool to make the handling of different SavedVariables.LUA easier for me.

    GOAL: Basicly the idea is to be able to merge specific SV of 2 Accounts together. And be able to clean or modify existing large SVs.

    IDEA: I am perfectly aware, that this will take me a long way, but i want to try. And on the way i guess i will solve some other stuff in managing SVs.

    PROBLEM:
    1. Would you do that in game or out of game ?

    1.a. ingame: when ingame you would have to copy the "secondary-SV.LUA" somewhere inside the primary Account.
    1.b. out of game: Which language ? I KNOW its a question of taste, but in an ideal world, what would be the best/easiest! solution. (besides machinecode ;-))

    1.b.1 Perl might be interesting for its parsing features
    1.b.2. JAVA, actually i would like to prefer that, for compatibility. (and i need to improve here)
    1.b.3. C might be interesting for performance issues.

    Do you know of ANY Program or tool, that is opensource and does handling of LUAs, besides:
    * LUA2CSV
    * LUA2PHPARRAY (problem: i want to write a korrekt SV back, and the format is kinda lost, when i "blindly" include this tool)
    * CMT: this would be a great start, since it kinda covers a large percentage of the functionality focused on Cartographer, but its not opensource, and CFish vanished.

    So i am not asking for a quick solution here, but for a little hint or a point to the way, since i want to do it myself.

    Thanks in advance.

    check if no other addon is causing this.
    When you disabled the automatic quest tracking, most likely you have another Quest Addon running.

    LOL forget it ;-) you dont know Star Trek huh?

    ,
    also, gatherheraddon.com isn't "dead", nor is the Gatherer addon.

    huh ? I didnt say the addon was dead, would i have been able to view the latest Preview, then ?

    But your answer was sufficient, since i could not reach their sites all of a sudden, neither of them. (norganna...) And i suspected my ISP had lost the connection to US, since all european site were accessible. Thats why i said "for me".

    same here. i'm also not getting an update report when it's done.

    Yep, I'll try fixing that tomorrow :)

    There's a slight chance on update that a slow site might throw the "end of update event" out of sync, which makes the progress bar stick/no report to be made (same trigger). I'll probably rewrite that part, or something :)

    hmm prio C i would say, its just a little visual flaw....

    Unfortunately, after trying out WUU and having it update about 10 of my addons with only ONE of them getting an actual NEW version, half of the others getting OLDER, OBSOLETE versions, and the other half getting either the same or slightly older versions, I don't think I will be using it.

    This can only be the result of a wrong configuration. Since i never ever had updated versions of older addons. And i have about 350 Addons, that needs update and i use it several times a day ... And i can roll back and check, since i have a versioned archive.
    And no, i dont use ACE only. It works with wowi, curse, cosmos, auctioneer, ...?

    If you not already have uninstalled WUU. you should either delete all config files or. set your addons to |unknown| and update form onlineDB.
    Give us examples, maybe

    edit: oops, i was a little slow i think ;-)

    I checked the vid, but didnt really get what that fat red thing has to say.
    First i thought: WOW when they made Gatherer as good as the new Auctioneer(it rocks like hell) ... but this wasnt what i expected.

    actually you can make Cartographer look similar, by using hotspot and transparency. And maximize-simple minimap

    What cartographer really really is missing is a way to find your nodes.

    1. by a WKB or mobmap-style database view and search function.
    2. persistent Waypoints. (maybe a way to lay routes or optimize your route)
    3. improved display of node-clouds.
    4. display lines/routes

    Now i have to go and check Gatherer in game :-)) thanks for the tip
