posted a message on WhoLib error
The problem appeared when turning in quests, so I was finally able to reproduce it. Pushed another change in WhoLib (well, almost a full fallback), and now the line 296-problem seems sorted too :)

After a busy day, hopefully peace and quiet is restored on the world of Azeroth :)

ps. Never try to outsmart a community, the code by Gizmo solved both issues. Thanks!

Hopefully the WIM author releases a new version of WIM with the newest WhoLib then, since he embeds it.

I've send him a PM this afternoon, so he knows about it :)

I have updated WhoLib earlier on today and fixed the error on line 501.

    Note:
It appears that the versioning-code of WhoLib is still a tad bugged so people who are running different versions of WhoLib at the same time may get a script error at WhoLib line 296. Downloading updated versions of your addons, or updating all copies of WhoLib to rev should fix the problem.

Getting since 2.4.2 Patch this error:
    [2008/05/14 15:38:40-2130-x17]: WhoLib-1.0-73809 (SpamSentry):296: attempt to index field 'Args' (a nil value)

Haven't seen this error myself, but it looks as if it's caused by a version conflict: aka you're running an old version of WhoLib on one of your other addons.

PS: I do Translations into deDE for various other (Ace)Addons and Updated my SVN SpamSentry Version deDE Locals if you want i can commit them to SVN.

Updated locales is always nice to have :) Unfortunately for you, the SpamSentry SVN is locked, so you can't upload it directly. If you send me a PM with the locale, or post it in this thread, I'll upload it to the SVN.

Apologies for the intermediate version of tonight; had a call and had to fly while I was still updating. Bad practice I know :) But all is updated and working now.

    The new version (20080513-2) contains:
    - Fix problems with player names containing UTF8 characters
    - Support for the zhTW translation

    WOW! Freakin' awesome job!!!

Would it be possible to add in the ability to click hyperlinks + wow item links as well?

    Thanks :)

Clickable links pose us for a problem... Currently the pane is click-through, which comes in handy if you like to target stuff while typing :) But click-through also means links cannot clicked. Anyway, it's worth looking at, so I'll see what I can do.

Nightowl: I just ran some tests and it is indeed the upper/lowercase function that caused the problems. I can fix it, but before I do so I would like to know how WoW formats playernames in asian languages. Is the first character capitalised?

The modified version seems don't work as the pane is still refusing to show anything.
Localization is ok, I've to add the file name inside TOC to make localization works.
There is a font cutoff of everyone player's name, see pic.

Thanks for the great feedback, it looks like the function I use to capitalise names does not work as intended with the big-5 codeset.

    Quote from Pastamancer »

I'm guessing that Whisp:ToName is the cause although I'm not sure what effect string.upper and string.lower have on characters (octets really) outside the normal ascii range.

Yep, I asked Nightowl to run a version that would output some debugcode, and it looks like it's the ToName() function indeed. Going to add a check for normal a-z characters before doing the (de)capitalising.

    Quote from Pastamancer »

Also, what's up with the strsub on line 533 in :GetChatHistory? Shouldn't that be replaced with a call to :ToName?

Yep, I frowned myself when I saw that the other day :) Must have missed it at some point.

Ah okay :) thanks for the clarification. May I request then a way to save messages permanently then. (not that 720 hours is short by any means lol)

A proper request, I'll look into it. But don't come running back to me next year saying Whisp eats you memory :P

I've just install this addon today and have a few question about it.
First, I am playing in taiwan server, I realized that the pane didn't display properly, which is always empty.
Second, I am using Prat instead of Chatter, will it be supported?
Third, after I've tried to localized the addon, it give me the following error

Thanks for the translation; I'll add it as soon as possible. About the other questions:
    - I have to look into the issue of the empty pane, I don't know how but apparantly the big-5 codeset has consequences.
    - Similar support for Prat as for Chatter is on my todo list as well yes.

I'm having a small problem, when the "History" setting is set to 0 my messages are not saved like the description says they should be (between sessions) instead only if I set the mod for 1 or more hours of save time do they save between session. Hope you can help, love the mod greatly!

Actually that is working as intended. If you look at the tooltip of the setting it says: "When set to zero, messages will be saved during the session." Aka: When the value is zero messages won't be saved over multiple sessions.

The latest Whisp r73497 severely bugs out here; the prior revision works fine.
    ...
Back to r72084 ;). Sync with Chatter is a cool concept, hope it works out reliably in the future. Should make sure that if people don't have Chatter modules active and/or they've deleted them so they don't load, Whisp understands it.

Mmmm... Well... I anticipated disabled modules, I didn't anticipate deleted modules as I wasn't aware that that was even possible ^^. Going to fix it right away.

    [edit]
    Fixed :)
Interesting bit: There appears to be a similar 'error' in the alt-names module of Chatter. Are you sure modules are meant to be deleted?[/edit]

    Hi Everyone,

I just published a brand new version of Whisp. It contains two major changes, although they are not directly visible.

One change is that the positioning/appearance of the pane is now saved on a per character basis and is no longer dependent on some blizzard-functionality that tended to bug with some people. It does mean however that the pane will be reset the first time you log in with this new version.

The second major change is that Whisp now intelligently picks up settings from Chatter (if you have this one installed). Whisp will take over fonts, borders/background, timestamps and player-name coloring. All of these are optional, and can be turned off when you want to. If you change settings in Chatter: synchronisation with Whisp is only done at load-time, or when you press the 'reload'-button from the Chatter-setting in the options.

    Grtz,

    Anea

Samasnier: Libraries are properly included, so if you are running without externals please check that this specific one is enabled.

posted a message on SpamSentry - Ace2 release
About the supposed issue with WIM:

I had a spare hour so did some testing with the help of a friend. I ran only two addons during testing: WIM and SpamSentry. We have tried virtually every setup I could think off: guilded/unguilded on friendlist or not, using words that would trigger SpamSentry, etc. Even tried with various level settings, and played with some settings in WIM. In no way I was able to reproduce the problem you reported: the first tell going missing when someone whispers you.

I can only conclude that the problem is caused by either a very specific WIM-option, or by another addon. SpamSentry and WIM are working perfectly fine together as far as I can test.

Well, I unchecked the SpamSentry -> Options -> Channel -> Whisper option and reloaded my UI, had a friend whisper me + WIM popped up with his whisper. However if I recheck it and reload UI and he whispers me again WIM doesn't appear until I start a reply to him.

Anyone who isn't on friends/guild I will always miss their first whisper in WIM + usually their whisper entirely. Now if they whisper me a second time it will show up in WIM, but won't display the first whisper within the WIM window.

Odd, odd, haven't seen this when I tested with WIM. I'll reinstall WIM this weekend and see if I can reproduce the problem.
