posted a message on Medley - Customize events with sounds!
*waves* I've been a lurker for a looong time here. :D Now I'm pretty excited to release my first mod ever, so go easy on me. :P Feedback is always appreciated, especially if you have suggestions for more sound events to add! Coding help and tips are also welcome, if any of you gurus actually take the time to look at my little mod. ;)

Check out the download pages linked at the bottom of this post to see documentation on how to use in-game and custom sounds for events, along with a couple screenshots!

    About Medley
This addon allows you to further customize events in the game with sounds! By either using already built-in sound files or your own custom ones, you can add effects or notifications to make the game more enjoyable and/or helpful to you. :) It is named "Medley" because it fit's the definition quite nicely: "an arrangement made from a series of melodies, often from various sources."

Medley was created using Ace3 libraries, Quixote 2.0 and is localization-ready.

Type /medley to bring up the options or you can find it in the "AddOns" section of WoW's default Interface panel.

    Current Features

    • Enable/disable the different sounds
    • Use built-in game sound files
    • Use custom sound files
    • Profiles for different configurations
    Supported Events
Here is a list of the events Medley currently supports along with the default sounds:

    • Quest objective completion - Peon says "Ready to work!"
    • Quest full completion - Peon says "Work complete!"
    • Quest failed - Orc death cry
    • Level up - Lots of drums beating
    • Duel finished - A crowd cheers
    • Mail notification - A low pitch thump
    • Whisper notification - A "wisp" noise
    • Auto follow - This is the only one not customizable at this time, if enabled your character will automatically do the train emote once when first following someone.
Remember that the default sounds can be changed and you can always go back to them by resetting your profile. I plan to add several more as I work on the mod and I am open to suggestions on what to add next. I'd love to fit as many events as possible in here so to give everyone the freedom to customize Medley to their liking.

NOTE:These customizations do NOT REPLACE current game sounds, but play along with them. If you are using another mod that adds sounds to events, you may want to disable those specific sounds in Medley or in the other mod to avoid having them all play at the same time.

    Great mod! :D

I saw this question on the WoWI page and was curious about it too:

Is there an option to ignore certain slots? like say the first slot where I always keep my hearthstone for example?

Would a feature like that be possible? If so that would be awesome. :D

Split the very start into two guides... one for dorfs one for gnomes. Both would progress into the main guide for the zone after the class quest.

May need to do the same in the Durotar guide?

Sounds good, how would I write it? Is there a tag for race? I just looked over the how-to wiki page again and didn't see anything specific. Let me know and I'll make the change!

I see what you mean, Mikma, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation! But also, I was still curious about the class quests...is it ok if they double up like that without regards to race? Or what can be done?

Thanks for the tip, Tekkub! I did consider people without coordinates, however I probably do need to add better directions. I changed a few things earlier in the DM guide after Mikma posted but I'll go over it again to see if there's anything else I can add more clarification on.

Thanks lots to both of you. :D

Hey thanks for the feedback. Also, I have read that page. It was constantly up while I was writing things.

The reason why I added the N for the first class quest accept was because, in my testing, when I tried writing it like you suggested (which believe me, I tried that first) it printed out two accept objectives for the same class, no matter whether they were dwarf or gnome. Like if the player was a warrior it would print out to accept "Simple Memorandum" as well as "Simple Rune". So, I figured the note objective would keep anyone from thinking they needed to accept another quest for some reason. If that doesn't matter then I'm fine with changing it back to what I had originally. Also, I don't think I overused notes at all though?

I'll shave off the coordinates a bit...that I will admit to, hehe. And about the guide levels...the guide itself will only take the player to level 11, so I changed it to 11 from 12. The only way it seems for the player to actually get to 12 in that zone is by grinding and I highly doubt anyone wants to do that. :P That's what I assumed each guide title meant...that the specific guide will take you through those levels and not what the zone itself limits.

Alrighty, the Dun Morogh guide ended up being levels 1-11. I added all the class quests too, however I was only able to test the hunter and mage sequences. If anyone else plays another class and finds a discrepancy let me know!

Also, if anyone else is interested in testing out my guides for levels 28-33 (Alliance) let me know and I'll email them to you. :)

Click the below file to download. Don't forget to add the file name to the TourGuide.toc file, otherwise it won't show up in WoW! Any feedback is appreciated, I'd like to get better at writing these. :)

Just mail all your stuff to tek. I don't mind if you change the stuff I've written :)

Ok, will do! It ended up going from Wetlands to Arathi/Hillsbrad/Alterac and finishing (hopefully) at level 33 where the guide for Desolace starts. I chopped it up into about 4 mini-guides, since I read that is how it should be done if the "quest hub" zone is new. I've play tested through about 30% of it so I'll email everything to Tekkub for approval once I fix the kinks. :D

Woot! I'll go check it out now. :D

Alright done! There were really only a few things that needed to be changed, not that much. :D I ended up just adding in the destinations to run to and rearranging the order of a couple of the objectives. I wasn't sure whether you were ok with me editing it or not, Mikma...if you want I can upload a copy of what I changed somewhere and then you can go over it if you like and commit it to the SVN.

So the next step is Ashenvale? Anyone writing up a guide for that? I volunteer if no one else is, since my character is there now anyway and has quests from where the last Ashenvale guide left off. :D

I'm really enjoying playing my druid, that's why I'd love to help fill in the guide gaps as I level along, hehe. :D

EDIT: Already half-way through completing a guide for 29 to *maybe* 31 or 32 in Ashenvale. I'll play it through today and see how it goes! :)

EDIT: Ashenvale (29-30) finished! It takes you within 2k of leveling to 31, lol. I decided to move to the Wetlands again, so I'll write one up for there now too. Looking at the quests it looks like it might get me into 31 but not all the way to 32.

Notice some points need to be changed and that's the reason why I said that i need to play it first :P
This file is not in .toc so you need to add it in before you can play it.
You most likely need to change the directions and add more instructions to the places / quests.

Woot! I'll go check it out now. :D

Yeah I have 28-29 Darkshire written but haven't played it through yet so haven't uploaded it in svn :P

Ok, great! Hey if you'd like some help testing it I would be happy to...same goes for anyone else writing any guides and maybe needs another outlook on how it plays. Just email me, I'd be happy to help. :)
