posted a message on Renaming project results in curseforge broken links

update: i stumbled on an even OLDER bookmarked link, from before the transition of the curseforge site to the new platform and discovered that the rename process actually added a redirect for the OLD legacy (before-site transition) style link... but not for the after-the-transition style link

    old (legacy) curseforge url: https://wow.curseforge.com/addons/auc-cheap-searcher

was redirected to the new (renamed) curseforge url.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i see that the curseforge redirect from numeric project id to the new project url has been fixed but the old url is still not redirected to the newly assigned url (still getting 404 on the old curseforge url of the project)

i assume that redirecting the numeric id (86550 in my case) to the correct project url is a script that runs automatically once a day or so and updates the redirects from numeric IDs to correct project urls... am i right?

if so.. that means that the issue tickets are not solved yet, but at least the link from curse to the curseforge project page works now. :)

posted a message on Renaming project results in curseforge broken links

today i decided to rename my project a bit and discovered that Curse decided to re-arrange the URLs too... ???!!!

it used to be that Curse was using the addon folder name as url slug... apparently this is not the case anymore and any small change to addon name will cause a new url to be formed and auto-assigned. OUCH. Please add a warning about this url change in the project settings interface, next to the addon (re)name field.

old name: Auctioneer Cheapo searcher module

    old curseforge url: https://wow.curseforge.com/projects/auc-cheap-searcher

    old curse url: https://mods.curse.com/addons/wow/auc-cheap-searcher

new name: Auctioneer Cheapo searcher module (with transmog)

    new curseforge url: https://wow.curseforge.com/projects/auctioneer-cheapo-searcher-module-with-transmog

    new curse url: https://mods.curse.com/addons/wow/auctioneer-cheapo-searcher-module-with-transmog

on the Curse site i see that the rename caused an automatic redirection to be created from the old url to the new url.

but on the Curseforge site there has been no such redirection created.. at the old url i'm getting this message after renaming:

    Not found

We were unable to find the page or file you were looking for.

can we please get some automatic rename redirection set up for the curseforge site too?

edit: also https://www.curseforge.com/projects/86550/ (the link on the "Project Site" on the Curse project page)
still redirects to the old url from before the rename, url that now returns a 404 error

posted a message on Curse Client is installing -nolib and breaking installed existing addons

    update from home pc:

works almost ok here too, no more looping self-reinstalls... but i still found those "reset all" blue links in the settings menu again (see screenshot above, in post #8) and i can't see what causes them (can we please get a menu to see this?)

... clicked to reset them anyway. hopefully they won't be back.

    update:

i'm currently on my laptop... Curse Client has stopped here with the silly Ace3 reinstall loop... probably the deletion of the bad -nolib file from server has fixed it.

i still have to get home and see how it behaves on my main PC though, but i hope it will be fixed there too.

*sigh* i see... it's yet another silly bug in the new curse soup... i wonder why did they release the new sites so early if it still has so many bugs

change url from www.curseforge (or www.wowace) to (curse-sub-site-here).curseforge

(for me it's wow.curseforge, couldn't find your profile on there though... what game are your mods for?)

projects are tied to the particular sub-site profile not to the www (forums) profile. it's an overall issue with curse user profiles...

private messages are also split among various sub-sites... you have different private messages inboxes on each curse sub-site... see:

    https://www.curseforge.com/forums/wow-sites/wow-sites-feedback/127140-private-messages-are-different-across-all-curse

edit: scratch that... i see you have wow addons on wowace and curseforge too... seems that it's yet another issue with curse user profiles :(

posted a message on user-generated content needs a captcha for new users

please implement a captcha/reCaptcha for forum posts / project issues / project comments for new users.

i would consider a new user any user account that:

    - (for forums) has posted less than 5...10 forum posts or comments in forum.

    or

    - (for project issues) has posted less than 5...10 project issues/comments on any project (or old tickets/comments on tickets)

    or

    - (for main curse site or main wowace site) has posted less than 5...10 comments on any project pages

    or

    - user account is newer than 2 weeks

this is because i have started to see random spam lately on curse sites (including here on forums)...so probably a captcha might help.

For project creation (not for file updates though), since this is a rarely occuring but important event, i would require a mandatory captcha solve every time an user creates a project or deletes a project.

I know that there's a team of moderators that verifies and approves new projects but a captcha before a project creation request ends in their hands should be useful too.

posted a message on CurseForge Upload Issue

converting from LF to CR\LF line endings is not helping compression at all imho, on the contrary.. it adds an extra byte for every line of text in a source file...extra byte that can affect your "all the way up" compression :)

posted a message on Curse Client is installing -nolib and breaking installed existing addons

yep.. still having the issue. nothing changed here... the curse client app is downloading and re-installing the Ace3 package all by itself every 30 minutes (the addon update detection period that i set in options) or whenever i press the refresh button....

my curse client app is Version 7.1.6164.2253 Beta... should i switch to alpha?

btw.. look at the download counter for Ace3 r1153-alpha... it will soon reach 20 thousand downloads... for an Alpha build.. *rofl*

    https://www.wowace.com/projects/ace3/files

seems i'm not the only one that's experiencing looping re-installs of Ace3.

edit: Also.. it still auto-enables -nolib for Ace3, but auto-installing lib instead and flagging -nolib as an available upgrade

    *headscratch*

but for Ackis Recipe List - it no longer does that ... i had to force a manual reinstall of ARL to get the build with libs though... even if Curse Client was at fault for me getting the -nolib version, it didn't flag that i was running -nolib in any way other than showing the build version number below the addon name.

posted a message on Internal server error when trying to push mercurial

if it's a critical fix for your addon(s), i suggest you try to package the zip file yourself and upload that zip to curseforge... maybe that works until they fix things.

take time to verify that the zip file that ends up published is what you intend to publish though because after the migration curseforge is altering uploaded zip files before publishing them. (hopefully they will disable this new behaviour sometime soon)
