If you committed something, it definitely wasn't to the wowace svn.

    The file is updated:
    http://svn.wowace.com/wowace/trunk/Dock/Config/Config.lua
    and new zip in http://files.wowace.com/Dock/

However, there was nothing in irc or on fisheye.

Thanks for the opportunity to try out this mod.
So far working great, I did run across an error.. not quite sure when it occured, but posting it here for your info:

Mod was still working fine after error report, so dosent appear to be a show stopper.

Doh, missed some values when I did a find/replace. Committed a fix.

You'll be able to find the latest 'stable' betas at:
    WoWInterface Downloads : Dock
Dock | World of Warcraft Addons | Curse

Work-in-progress, or experimental beta builds for the brave will be found right here at (or on the svn):
    Dock at files.wowace.com

Dock is an addon that, as the name suggest, allows you to shrink and dock other frames into it. On mouseover frames can be zoomed in letting you take a good look at their contents.

    Features:
Virtually infinite amount of docks, or just one if you'd like
Practically any frame can be docked by just dragging and dropping
Highly customizable: colors, animations, orientations and more
Tabbing feature that lets docks be collapsed even further
Load on demand configuration, no reason to waste that memory

You can view a video of Dock here:
    YouTube - Dock Preview 2

You can view a video of Dock's tabbing features here:
    YouTube - Dock preview 3

The Dock wiki with FAQs is here:

Dock is still considered beta, please treat it as such.

I assume the Tabs have visual options so you can make change the opacity or display on mouseover, essentially making them ideal for minimalist ui designs. Instead of a tabs with text maybe an icon?

Yes, the tabs have support for opacity (and color) on normal and mouseover so you could make it hidden until moused over. However, the label doesn't currently have that (though it's trivial to add) and no icon support.

Actually, you can, within certain limits. User action is required to make it happen (by clicking, pressing a key, or mousing over), and it can only be instantly shown/hidden - no animation or sliding effects.

I see, it's not something that I can easily add to Dock at this point, however, is (a single) SetPoint available also or only show/hide?

You sure about that? I thought you can achieve this, as long as the user presses a button to show/hide the frame.

I could be mistaken, I haven't actually tried it.

The collapsing is a great idea, unfortunately you can't properly collapse and expand secure frames such as unit frames and action bars in combat. Which is likely where you'd need them.

After watching your demo I've added a feature to Dock that allows docked frames to be collapsed into tabs. Which works well for damage meters and other such mods.

Here's a short preview of it:

I expect to open Dock to public testing tonight.

Kameril, I have just considered another possible scenario, and it has to do with LoD addons.

Suppose I use addon A, and it is LoD and it has a dockable movable frame. If I dock it, that's fine. On my next login, because addon A is LoD, that frame doesn't exist yet, it won't be in the dock. When I later load addon A in the same game session, Dock won't remember that it was docked.

Perhaps you could possibly register for ADDON_LOADED, and use this event to delay processing by 1 frame (use an OnUpdate), so that you can dock the relevant frames after the addon is loaded. Note that your registered ADDON_LOADED function will run first before addon A's ADDON_LOADED function in the same event, because it is registered first, hence delaying by 1 frame via an OnUpdate is necessary as many addons like to do frame creation during this event, rather than during the addon's main chunk.

I actually already handle that by hooking CreateFrame and watching for frames that were previously docked. I wait several frames (under advanced options there a slider that adjusts the delay) and then check to make sure it's visible and has at least one anchor before I redock it. Sometimes the order isn't restored correctly, but c'est la vie.

Frames created on load through XML currently are not redocked and that's where ADDON_LOADED comes in, something to add to the list.

It's definitely something I'd like to add. However it's slightly more complicated with Dock than in most mods. It'll be something to look for after the public beta begins.

This post along with http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=11209.0 got me thinking about minimizing frames further. I've implemented a "tabbing" option which will collapse dock into a tab with a label. You can still drag frames to be docked onto the tab and use keybinds but no frames will be visible until the tab is clicked which will expand the dock into normal size. The tab and the dock have completely independent settings which allows the tabs to be stacked in completely different locations from the actual dock. Different locations are handled by configurable animations. The tab of course has a full range of texturing and coloring options. Additionally, I've added an option to "auto tab" a dock after X seconds of disuse.

This feature hasn't been thoroughly tested and I'm sure people are anxious about the open beta so I don't want to delay it by testing this feature. So I'm going to put it into the advanced options with a clear disclaimer until I feel it's bug-free.

I'll try to toss a vid up on youtube in a bit.

With the minimalist ui design in mind, could the dock be hidden off screen only to appear when the mouse is close to it? Such as the auto hide in the Mac Dock, even startbar? Or maybe somehow not clamped onto the visual screen but offscreen? Just thinking about that so that those that want a hidden frame can get that.

It's definitely something I'd like to add. However it's slightly more complicated with Dock than in most mods. It'll be something to look for after the public beta begins.

    New bug:

Binding Send to dock 4 is defined more than once in Interface\AddOns\Dock\Bindings.xml

Nice catch, gotta watch those copy/pastes. Fixed internally.

This is correct. My post was just a personal opinion. Do not be offended, Dock is still a very cool addon, and there are still many situations where a frame's readability doesn't affect anything, such as where it uses colors or symbols, and a scaled down frame is still very much usable. :)

Oh no, I'm not offended. :)

Will it change UI design? Likely.
Is it a 'revolution'? No idea, we'll see.

I agree with the drag point. I'd like to make it an option though, automatic may not be intuitive to most people (an option for automatic is possible however).

What he means is that he thinks it's better to hide a frame, than to have it so small that you can't read what it says

Yeah, I understand. My point was that there's people who aren't minimalist enough to hide frames of infrequent use; other viewpoints.

Personally, I don't want to set a dozen bindings to hide/show parts of my UI. I don't like navigating several layers of dropdowns to show/hide a frame. I don't like remembering nested chat commands to show/hide a frame. I don't like wasting an action bar spot for a macro that shows/hides a frame. Others do, and that's fine.

Not really Brok. The docked frames are still fully visible, just take up slightly less space.
From a UI design point of view, it is usually better to hide a frame totally (and make a method, usually a keybind or minimap button or fubar button to show it) than to make it smaller (and unreadable).

In this sense, Toogle performs better than Dock from a "minimalist" viewpoint, allowing you to set keybinds to toggle the showing/hiding of many frames at the same time.

And yet I'm fairly confident to say there's quite a few UI enthusiasts that are not extreme minimalists.
