There are some times when you just *must* use flash. For example, if you want to copy something into the clipboard. File uploaders can usually be done cleaner in flash than in ajax as well for inline stuff. And of course, every streaming video system (except netflix) uses flash, but I think that's just a case of it being the only viable option currently.
Frankly, I wouldn't hate flash if it was like java, only used where necessary. The problem is that 99.9% of the flash content out there is useless shit. Of course, I blame advertisers for this.
Javascript, on the other hand, has become a staple of everyday internets. Call it "web 2.0" if you like, but frankly sites that use js well are nicer than even the best of their js-less counterparts.
I am with Tekkub with this one. If Flash is used when needed or useful, that is OK. However when advertisers insist on using banner ads that coded in Flash, that what raises my hackles. Java and Flash are not bad, it's what the code is used for that can be an issue.
Downloading from that page works. The rest of the site is hit or miss on whether or not you get a connection. It will be this way for a couple of days.
6. Did I understand you right, that, if I installed Flash, there would be no captchas at all and the download would work like before?
Yes that is correct. Tested this myself
7. Did I understand you right, that, if I installed Flashblocker, I could restrict Flash to curse.com and nothing else?
I think Flashblocker does work by domain. I don't use Flashblocker myself, I use NoScript which also handles Flash. If NoScript is not enabled for a site, then no Flash.
I did some testing with the Flash link. No lag, just the usual wait time while my request was sent up the line. The time was no different than when it was a plain HTML link.
I frankly never have had any issues with Flash and Firefox (and I have NoScript installed). However some people have this "Flash= Bad" attitude likely stemming from sites that use Flash way too much or poorly coded Flash apps.
I think this must have been asked before but I couldn't find any post about it. In Ace2 we had AceModuleCore for managing modular libraries, how do we do it in Ace3?
thanks

I believe this is done through LibStub. Quote from WoWWiki:
LibStub is a minimalistic versioning library that allows other libraries to easily register themselves and upgrade. It is meant to be a cross-community library sharing system.
My apologies. I forgot to check the box in my haste, had my arms full with a one year old. :)
He he, I know what you are going through. Mine used to try to "help" me playing C&C Generals at that age. Now I wonder when she will ask for her own WoW account (she is 6 now).
On Topic now: That looks an aweful lot like the official Tourguide guides (feels kinda nasty saying that).
Yea I just fixed all those links, you people suck at following directions.
Hey, I don't want those ripoff artists getting any higher in the Google rankings. Today I did a Google search for Grid (just to see what I would get). I used the search terms "Grid", "WoW, "mod". The site rankings for Grid where in this order:
Curse
WoWInterface
WoWAce (just a link to WoWAce itself, no link to the Grid project page)
WoWInsider (AddOn Spotlight story about Grid)
WoWMatrix
addon.hotwow.com
Softpedia
I would rather see #5, 6, and 7 get banished further down the list (like on the next page or so).
While Stumbling, I came along a Shanghai based site, <<addon.hotwow.com>>. It seems to actually be hosting the addons. They list an addon's basic info, including author, and then a copy/paste of an addon's info. Now maybe they're legit, and just Chinese... but as there is no info on how people are supposed to contact authors for support or what not, thought better to post and be wrong, then not.
That site has already been added to the list of shame when this thread was created.
Also see this in the first post:
please disable automatic URL linking when posting additional sites, so as not to promote the site through things like Google page rank etc.
There is a check box under the Additional Options heading for "Automatically parse links in text". Clear that check box. If you don't see the Additional Options section then you need to click the "Go Advanced" button.
PS: unsure if its wow-pro's addition to tourguide or if its Tourguide's own guides. In all cases I reported the site to Jame at wow-pro as well.
WoW-Pro has always distributed his guides free, thus I think he would be a bit pissed to see he his content being "sold". Regarding the AddOn, that does look a lot like Tourguide. Looks like Tekkub is going to get sicced on those nublets. I think I will go find a nice bunker now so I don't get hit in the resulting explosion.

WoWI has been totally slammed however they have got their lite page up:
http://s.wowinterface.com/the_list.html
Downloading from that page works. The rest of the site is hit or miss on whether or not you get a connection. It will be this way for a couple of days.

Click the DogTags help button when you are editing and you will get a window listing various DogTags plus an area where you can test DogTag strings.

WoWMatrix does use Curl, WUU does not (its written almost exclusively using Python thus the various Python libs).
