posted a message on PitBull 4.0
Boss frames have been requested several times. Unfortunately, the Pitbull maintainers haven't had the time to implement it yet. Darn those real jobs and the fact that addon maintenance is a volunteer gig! :)

I'm running ShadowedUF just to have those boss frames, until such time as the devs can get them worked into Pitbull.

I like the idea of swapping buffs/debuffs based on unit hostility. You can go to http://www.wowace.com/addons/pitbull4/tickets/ to file a request for it. There's already a ticket requesting boss frames, unsurprisingly.

There was a client-side patch yesterday. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they re-broke it.

Mapster is only one of many addons that this complaint can come from. If you reload your UI you'll be able to place them again (at least for a while).

The Auctioneer devs also say it's their problem:

Blizz hotfixed the server (according to their notes) to revert to the 4.0.6 functionality.

If you read the previous posts, it's not when zoning, it's when talking to other clients that are not in the same zone.

There are/were problems when talking to other clients in the same zone. I saw this standing right next to the person.

If your addon wasn't following the new standards, then yes, fix it. If your addon already was, and things weren't working due to Blizzard's bug. Then there's not much point in trying to find a problem with your own addon.

If you take the time to learn it, vim/gvim will change how you program.

HERETIC! There is no editor other than Emacs! Thou shalt not use vi or any derivation thereof! ;D

Seriously though, unless you're willing to devote a LOT of time to learning either of these, and you expect to do a lot of coding or text editing (not word processing, that's different), don't bother. My main reason for liking Emacs over any "standard" text editing tool I've used is that all the necessary keys are accessible without moving your fingers from home row. Reaching over to hit the arrow keys is obnoxious. And Ainise is right, you must re-bind caps lock to ctrl.

posted a message on ChocolateBar, do you like chocolate?
Can you add an option to disable this? I really don't like having my whole center bar move when one plugin text changes length.

My preference is to center based only on the number of plugins in the center bar.

Thanks!

posted a message on Getting rid of stupid Blizz boss frames
I can't seem to get rid of the default Blizz boss frame no matter what I try. I'm sure there's some combination of my addons and/or settings that are screwing it up, but haven't been able to figure it out.

Chinchilla allows me to move the boss frame anywhere I want (but it's locked to stay fully on the screen). This works. But I can't find a setting there that allows me to hide it.

Move Anything claims to let me hide and move it (all 4 bosses), and even whether I move and/or hide them the frame does get hidden, but red and sometimes blue bars always show up at the default location. I assume these are the boss's health and mana bars.

Pitbull's Hide Blizzard Raid Frames doesn't seem to affect the Boss frame.

I'm also running DXE, DBM, and a slew of other addons that I can't imagine would affect this.

Does anyone know offhand of any interactions between these addons that could prevent the hiding of the blizz bossframe, or if I might be missing some option somewhere? I'll be happy to post my complete list of addons if anyone thinks that would help.

Thanks

AHsearch definitely works with Auctioneer.

I find that doing the search manually, then saving that search, is the best way to generate new searches.

posted a message on Noob question about OnEvent
Thank you!

I had to pull OnEvent out of the SetGlobals() function, and now it's not spitting up any LUA errors. It's got lots of other problems, but I'm reading the WoW Programming book first, which has already pointed out several key points about LUA syntax to me that I hadn't grokked.

i think this addon causes people not to be able to inspect others.

This is a general problem with 4.0.1. StarTip is just running into it, not causing it.

Tried several variations last night and had no luck. I'll try "RecipeBook.OnLoad(RecipeBook, RecipeBookFrame)" a try.

I also decided that I need to simply spend more time learning the basics about writing addons. I've been a professional software engineer for the last 20 years, so I've got a good idea about code in general, but it's all been C programming. Implicit declarations confuzzle me. :)

My google-fu says "Beginning Lua with World of Warcraft Add-ons" by Paul Emmerich is probably my best bet, but I'd love other suggestions for a good intro to LUA/XML.

Thanks!
