I recently added some directional navigation/waypoint support to my addon. I'm using trigonometric calculations to calculate the direction of travel. It is of course, accurate but I notice sometimes my framerate drops significantly.
While I know that top of the line machines won't have a problem with anything in WoW (including me doing trig stuff OnUpdate) i am concerned for the majority of people who do not have $1500+ machines. (i'm talking self-built that cost that much)
The easiest thing I can think of to optimize this is if I can get a reading of the current rotation value of the minimap arrow / compass overlay. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I don't have access to the FrameXML right now since I'm at work, but I did heavily look over the relevant files in FrameXML and couldn't find anything.
This would be so much faster than doing the calculations each time.

Dec 2, 2008I was introduced to "CombatStats" by CTMod way back when and then just used the one in Cosmos because I used parts of Cosmos and parts of CTMod.Posted in: Addon Ideas
Now that Cosmos is dead it seems like CombatStats is also dead? I mean the addon that simply puts the DPS in a small frame that defaults to over top of the Player frame at the top left. I've noticed several addons entitled CombatStats but they are not the same one.
I maintain my own addon so I am currently experimenting with adding that feature to it but currently mine is really buggy and I was wondering if anyone knew of any DPS addons out there that were similar to what I'm talking about ?
All the ones I've seen on here are too much screen realestate or waste space (imo) with like fancy titles and such. I just want something that shows your average DPS per battle like the old Combat Stats did.
Dec 2, 2008My addon was not broken at all by the new patch/expansion and I do what I consider to be hardcore massaging of some core functions *shrugs*Posted in: Need Help?
I do know a lot of addons were broken by the update. I don't think there was any change regarding the core language, at least not what you mentioned. I use self and this in some parts of the addon and like I said, it didn't break. it still works as it always did.
Dec 2, 2008My addon LiCe for World of Warcraft does a lot of stuff with WHO functions. It stops the window from popping up, and also deals with the anti-flood issue. Basically /who is limited to 1 /who every 5 seconds. LiCe does a routine who of anyone who whispers you, anyone whose messages (anywhere) match words you specify etc. It utilizes a queue that throttles the WHO queries. It is pretty robust, and IMO was not that much work. You simply have to know how the system works.Posted in: Addon Ideas
To the topic creator, I'd like to ask, why do you want to have unlimited friends? The reason I ask is because LiCe has the ability to sync certain friends over all toons on that realm by simply checking a checkbox in the friends pane. This way only friends you want to sync are synced. It also will do a WHO on friends only if the information is not already instantly available whenever it needs to use the info, and has certain other extensions as well.
I used to use a lot of Friend sharing addons and they always would add every single friend to every single toon and eventually the friends list would fill up.
So this may help you. However, doing a /who to find out if a person is online is still a tricky proposition. You are limited as I said to 1 /who every 5 seconds. Keeping in mind that I use WHO to provide extended info on ppl in whispers/auto-reply matches a system that checks for users coming online every 5 seconds would block out all other /who requests. I would think you would want at least 5 minutes between checks. This is a lot less efficient than Blizzard's notification system, and may not be worth the trouble IMO.
