Try ebay.com there should be dozens of retailers with >10k pos. ratings that send you the key at 0:01 and the game not at all(throw it away) or later and you can pay via Paypal/CC so its np to purchase it in the UK aswell.

Oct 22, 2008I dont think the Server specs WoW uses are "low end".Posted in: General Chat
The point is if you want to implement a new Type of Server it requires month of Testing that specific kind of Server if its stable enough.
Every Realm consist of around 5 Servers (guess based on Server crashes) and I guess each Battlegroup has some Servers for X-realm stuff.
For around 400 Servers in the EU/US thats like 2000-2500 Servers. Replacing them more often is just not possible, as it requires month of hardware compatability tests with the WoW Server Software and whatever OS they use and the Network infrastructure the Datacenters etc. etc. .
And WoW is a money printing license for Blizzard you can be sure of that :P
They of course dont earn the 11mio*13⬠like people calculate but its still more than any other gaming Company currently earns by a single game :P
The WoW Servers will get hardware upgrades for sure, but you cant compare it to a home computer upgrade.
The staff thing is I guess more a Issue of availability. Finding top network engineers/coders is hard even with lots of money. And Blizzard is not known to pay great ;)
Oct 21, 2008Tekkub that switch is normally made for US(and other countries with 110V) -> EU(and other countries with 220/230V).Posted in: Updaters
But 220V and 110V is outdated already its 230V and 120V for years already, but that normally doesnt matter.
And normally all PSUs for several years are 110-240/250V and 50-60Hz and there is no need for this switch anymore. If you bought a PSU in the last 4 years that switch shouldnt exist normally(atleast I havent seen in on ~20 different PSUs)

Launch client... wait for it...
Addons that are updated get floated to the top and have a greenish icon next to them...
highlight and click update..
Is there something that im experiencing that your not?
I get nothing like that, even after more than 5minutes of waiting.
Oct 19, 2008Will the "Check for Updates" Button start doing something soon?Posted in: Updaters
To my knowledge the current way of knowing a AddOn got updated is by checking the "Latest" column.
So as a normal User I would press "Check for Updates" and expect the Client to update the "Latest" column for every AddOn that received a Update.
If that doesnt work I mark all AddOns and press the Button again.
The problem is both ways dont work. The Latest column doesnt get updated EVER. So currently I end up creating around 90MB of Traffic everytime I update my AddOns(even if only 4 got a update) as the ONLY way to update my AddOns is to manually tell the client to update All.
This behaviour combined with the embedded libaries is way worse than what WAU did.
Oct 12, 2008The index file was compressed before for WAU to around 50kb and the Curse Client does not download such a big index file.Posted in: Updaters
In the end your post contains lots of useless letters, that wont change a thing.
It doesnt matter how much Bandwith the Curse Client uses, Curse WANTS(and has to) to EARN money and not just pay their Server/BW bills. They have employees, Office space, Server Space etc. all that needs payment.
And the Curse Client web api and file distribution is already optimized afaik, its not perfect but certainly better than the way WAU/files.wowace.com handled it

The FSF is already notified, expect protests within the next days infront of the curse headquarters!
Sep 14, 2008Razer products besides the mices have a really low quality for the price you pay. They seem to invest much more money into marketing than Quality Control...Posted in: General Chat
Razer mices are good, but not everyones type, they arent really that comfortable as lets say the Logitech MX518 or the G5/G9 for example or other mices. Asking other people which mice or keyboards is good wont help you anyway, you need to use/see it yourself. There are people getting cramps using Razer mices, others use them for years without problems, there are people that cant play with 2.000dpi others "need" it.
This locking issue is a general WoW issue btw, even Keyboards where you can press more than 3 in the same field have this(Keyboard is divided in some "fields" with certain keygroups on where you can only press 2-4 at once normally) , not sure by what it is actually caused I couldnt reproduce it.
Personally I buy only Logitech and MS Mices/Keyboards, maybe Cherry for Keyboards if you like their Keyboards.
They have the best support Ive seen so far(Call them give them your S/N, they send you a new mice/keyboard and you send the USB Plug of your old one back in a already paid envelope, which was within the package. Here in germany they do it like that atleast but I dont think they handle it different in the US/somewhere else).
Logitech/MS/Cherry have the most experience with professional Keyboard Users(Gamers or working people) and dont shit on the ergonomics, as a bad keyboard/mouse can cause RSI alot faster than a good one( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repetitive_strain_injury ).
And the Keyboards are really high quality unlike the Razer products(besides mices again)
It always depends on the personal needs, you have to ask yourself what you really need, do you need some normally not noticeable marketing features like "1000Hz Ultrapolling? / 1ms response time" "Hyperesponse? gaming keytop with fully interchangeable keys" that you wont notice or do you want a Keyboard that you can perfectly smooth type and play on.
Same goes for stuff like Macros and Illumination, Its nice but you dont need it and in the end you pay extra for nothing as you wont look on your keyboard when typing/gaming anyway.
The only thing that is really important is that your mice/keyboard has a cable and not this wireless crap that just causes issues and additional delay, especially beause like 80% of the people using a Wireless keyboard dont move it anyway.
But well there is 14days money back stuff or even 30days in the US aswell I think so order and test :D
Sep 13, 2008Hmm ye forgot to mention that, the ones that cant even update :P But you could prolly blame your ISP for it if something happens if you notified them already and asked why they dont fix it.Posted in: General Chat
Sep 13, 2008Close to zero accounts got "hacked", most of the time its just the user being stupid and installing Malware/getting infected by malware. Sometimes you cant blame the Users because some exploits are abused before they are known but in 99.99% of the cases its already known and fixed/fixeable by doing something.Posted in: General Chat
Almost nobody running a Router did update their Firmware after the major DNS issue was found and fixed in June/July, although pretty much every manufacturer made Firmware updates available. This can be exploited and the users cant prevent it if he didnt update his OS/Router. (many wowace people fall under the category of people that actually update :P)

Blizz will never let anyone push them into releasing an "unfinished" game. And TBH, if someone thinks WoW is "bad", they didnt play the other MMORPGs yet.
(btw, Bugfixing and balancing probably takes longer then the initial development)
I think mainly people that played other MMORPGs before think WoW is "bad" (including myself) How can you call something bad if you cant compare it to others Games you have played? (Everyone should know that MMORPG "Reviews" basically say nothing about a Game)
Iam not saying the other upcoming MMORPGs are better than WoW though :P
Sep 11, 2008Blizzard announced WotLK for the fiscal year 2008. My wild guess is late Novemeber/start of December.Posted in: Updaters
Looking at the Beta I dont really think it should get release that early, but with WAR getting released and lots of the WoW players being eager to find a new MMORPG that isnt as "bad" as WoW I think the bean counter division will push them to release it to early.
And besides Bugfixing and Balancing WotLK is finished besides the obvious post cockblock bosses raid instances (Hyjal/BT alike). Its possible to get it in a "releaseable" state but I think they should take their time to bring out a good product even if it means that some k players quit the game out of boredom :P
Sep 7, 2008Because the client base is virtually the same of course...Posted in: Updaters
I think the percentage of people running AdBlock here is quite high and the usual person is not Browsing this Page hes Downloading AddOns he got referred to by others or browsing the AddOns, almost nobody will click the Ads.
And afaik Curse is not displaying Gold Seller/Power Leveling/Exploit ads/etc. if that didnt change so far(I dont visit curse normally and run Adblock/noscript), so the only Ads that idiots would click wont get displayed anyway.
