    What ya think?

    hate the first
    Love the second

I don't really like tech like UI's in a fantasy game.

    Quote from sylvanaar »

What it sounds like to me is that people want the ease of update that WAU provides without the trouble of finding and reporting bugs.

Elsia is right, the devlopment cycles are fast here solely because of the speed of feedback - this speed is a result of the release/update mechanism we have in place. When something breaks you hear about it sometimes almost instantly. I know that while developing Prat 2.0 the rapid feedback was instrumental in being able to get it through beta in just a few months. Chat mods are notoriously difficult to develop, since much of the game's interaction occurs through the chat system, and even the smallest bug can be a disaster. I would never have been able to get Prat finished had I not gotten the feedback I did during development.

I don't think that's entirely the case. the discussion came up with the sudden renewal of Thrae's trunk of Tinytip.
I think most users understand trunks can and most likely will contain bugs. The part which probably is the discussion here about WAU is the fact that nearly every user expect the trunk to be a decent beta without the ZOMGWTF happend here.
Getting a bug free mod would mean it's finished and well unless the mod is small and does only a few things then it probably never will be.
I never mind the fact that it could caontain bugs and I report the stuff frequently. nearly all the devs use the branch for alpha stuff and very early beta's and release later on the trunk for something to be considered flawed but with nearly all options there a working without 20 bugs a load ;)
in the case of Tinytip the mod worked but the entire config part had vanshied because he's rewriting it making it to many more an alpha version than a beta :)
Was it a smart thing to do it this way... probably not since trunk is considered to be release ready stuff else why have WAU of files.wowace.com in the first place. Besides that it has grow that way with the help from both devs and users. Note I will not say it's bugfree or anything since I never consider a mod entirely bugfree not even the wowi, curse and other sites stuff.

    how I see it....
Branch: Alpha and very early beta
Trunk: decent working beta's up to finished
Tags: last known stable version according to the dev.

    OOC alpha bug has returned.

I updated today and it seems that the Out Of Combat bug has returned once again. It won't go to 0% alpha even though I set it to that. This is atleast the case with the player frame.

    quoted because it's still there

also copying from character doesn't work... nothing happens

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- the majority of addons available on wowace are NOT available on release sites, or are not updated with any regularity. PitBull has never appeared on a release site. FuBar and Grid haven't been updated on release sites in nearly a year. These are very popular addons, yet the only place to get them is wowace, and wowace offers addon authors no way to provide the average user any distinction between "development" and "stable" versions. Advanced users understand what pulling updates off the SVN means, and put up with the fact that sometimes updating your addons means you'll get something totally broken and have to spend 45 minutes rolling back to find a working version, but it's simply absurd to expect the average user to have any awarenss of the situation at all, and even more absurd to hurl insults at them for complaining about the situation.

To be completely honest, I would be much happier downloading only off release sites, but for many of the wowace-hosted addons I use (Grid, for example) there simply is nothing else that compares. If addon authors want to complain about users who complain about unstable SVN beta "releases", they should stop being lazy and upload stable versions to release sites on some kind of regular schedule. If you're not an addon author, then you don't really have any room to complain about complaining users at all.

    QFT

Devs made it a release site themselfs NOT the users. Yet the devs whine we say something about it. I simply say that they should release their stuff on what you call stable sites and quit whining here. The most popular addons here can't be found on other sites or have release dates so old it's near the launch of TBC.
So yeah I treat Trunks a release rdy (with at the most some minor bugs), but not as a place as early beta or alpha state projects that was what the branch was suppost to be.
Nevertheless it shouldn't mean we need to go mental if someone breaks a mod. Users who go mental and devs which continually bash about trunk is a beta platform and isn't meant a release platform should take a breather, because both are wrong.

well it wouldn't have to be big... maybe a single wiki page with just the names in them at this time. I do understand his point though. As I do yours Funkydude because in the end it doesn't really matter since the transition between the 2 aren't as big as between ace and ace 2

Ok maybe it's me but what is the difference between Prat which seem to use 2 MB and Chatmod that uses 130K? I'm really baffled by the size Prat is for what is described as a lightweight framework.

You can already filter by category - there's a dropdown menu on the toolbar.

isn't it support to have ace3 in the mod itself? I had to download it seperately. However it is nice both ace3 and xsparky.

    oh yeah and a bug
when you change the reputation color the spark intensity goes to 1 while I have it set on a different value. in the Ace config screen it is on the value I stated.
When I slide the bar up or down it follows the intensity of the slider again though.

Like stated in another thread but now here as a feature request.

    The addition of filters
it shouldn't be that hard to implement filters by date and filters/selection by catergory.

Personally it would finish a damn good program.

    why think so hard?

I don't know who made WAU, but the app is great and with 2 filters you can eliminate a lot of the aggrivation there is about the svn.

You can add date filters for for instance 10,30,60,100,150,200 days or never with a radio button.
and category filters on which ones to include in the big list with checkboxes.

The date filter can easily be added to the files.wowace.com pages too.

Second point is a request to the authors.
Document your stuff please. I mean there is a wiki here and you got the forum to give some info on wtf your addon does. Yet the world need to figure out what it is and nuking it afterwards since it isn't something they are looking for. I don't ask for a new King novel, but lacking in providing a decent describtion is looking like you don't take pride in what you've created. You can do it even Industrial does it with his mods.

As for the svn itself well you can remove stuff like old broken ones or ones that have replacements and that are old and no longer maintained, but that is a big task.
