Dec 16, 2005I'm thinking though that perhaps AceBar shouldn't have any helpers at all aside from the menu thing and even that could be done cleverly by building a dynamic AceGUI module into the AddOn itself which the plugins send information to dynamically. Just use the GetID to figure out which set of information is plugged into the AceGUI dropdown.Posted in: Addon Ideas
Anyway, I was always thinking that Titan went too far, you know what I'd like to see? A basic 'panel' element with a text entry part that I could inherit. I'd then make my XML and inherit that. I'd use SetText myself and that would be that. The only real communication would be the right-click stuff and registering with the main bar-AddOn.
The main reason I think it should register back is the anchoring. I think Titan went too far. This is what I meant by having a frame that I could inherit, this frame would be like a tooltip background frame with an offset of five pixels and a fixed height. It would set the width dynamically AddOn-end by going via the text-string's length (there's a function for that).
Then, if a plugin's frame goes offscreen, dock it down onto the next "row" instead of vertically. So what you'd have are all these little tooltip-esque frames sitting next to each other. I'll try and draw up an example later to show you what I mean but personally, I think it'd look really minimalist and nifty because you'd get free screen space wherever you didn't have a plugin.
Dec 16, 2005Yeah, I wouldn't recommend using the current system at the moment anyway because I found out it's not without its bugs, even if an AddOn has no XML, it can still be buggy if loaded with LoadOnDemand, I uncovered seven levels of hell when I tried using LonD. I can only hope that as another here said, they fix up all the issues and provide the extra functionality in 1.9 as they promised to. I can't see it happening to be honest but if they do, I can finally pick up Doorman again. :PPosted in: General Chat
Dec 16, 2005Then how about this?Posted in: Addon Ideas
An AddOn that allows you to do, say ...
/script CycleCast:Execute("Spell(Rank 1)", "Another Spell(Rank 3)", "OMG The Finisher(Rank 8)", 5)?
That way, you'd do Spell(Rank 1), then Spell(Rank 3) then OMG The Finisher(Rank 8). If you didn't execute them all in 5 seconds though, it'd go back to the first spell, instead of waiting forever on the third spell.
Dec 16, 2005Run /slash commands or functions when a new profile is createdPosted in: General Chat
You mean that you want to run slash-commands only the very first time something is seen and then delete them? So the first time warrior is seen, you wish to delete lines after firing them? That's all too possible. Just add lines that use Beginnings' own delete option.
For example ...
1. Do this.
2. Do that.
3. Do the other.
4. Del 2.
5. Del 3.
6. Del 4.
7. Del 5.
In other words, you could include commands to delete lines then you could include further commands to delete the commands which delete the commands. So you can even clean up after you. Beginnings is just that powerful.
Run /slash commands or functions on each load
/ace profile Beginnings character
/ace profile Beginnings class
That works every time for me, give it a try.
Detect Class and load a Class specific set of mods using the LoadIT mod
That can be done by supplying the correct LoadIT slash-commands to a class-based version of Beginnings.
Run /slash commands or functions after all mods and commands have been loaded
Beginnings always runs after all variables have been loaded, it's improper and unsafe to run anything before that time and it should only ever be done in very unusual circumstances (for example, hooking API-level functions or frames to destroy them, rather than to actually use them -- like in BugSack).
I'll check out your version of Aspected, thanks alot. Does it work for Priest Shadowform and include bar switching options per form?
Yup, it's from the very latest Aspected.
I'm actually cleaning up the code currently and I'll release my own version soon. I also plan on including spells for other races and entries for things like "Mark of the Wild" and "Thorns" for Druids.
Dec 16, 2005From the attitude I've seen of people here (awesome people they are), I don't think that an Ace(D) AddOn will come about. One of the reasons I dislike Sarf (aside for his crimes against coding) is his crimes against players. With AddOns that think for you, they lessen your ability as a player. Having gone from such an AddOn myself to playing for myself (having been taught by City of Villains and Guild Wars the hard way), I know that I went from being a pretty damned mediocre player to a pretty damned good player.Posted in: Addon Ideas
The only thing I'd suggest is to leave AddOns like that well alone and to believe in your own abilities. This is one of those rare things that I agree with Blizzard on. They're far too damn nazi over it for my tastes (they can be a bit totalitarian) but I think in the end, their heart is probably in the right place.
When you hit the BGs, things like OneHitWonder will come back to bite you in the arse, versus players who do play for themselves. Not to mention that Sarf's code is some of the most memory hungry there is. Currently I never see below a framerate of 25FPS, ever. There's a reason for that.
Anyway, I've said my piece but I think most Ace developers would agree with me. There's no place for an AddOn like that in the halls of Ace. We should be better than that.
Dec 15, 2005Looks like a great line-up, Devla! I do have one question though ...Posted in: General Chat
Why not Beginnings instead of Startup? Startup is a bit long in the tooth now and based off of old code, Beginnings was designed to do so much more, it's far more powerful and it comes with the Endings module to do stuff on logout. It can also do stuff per-char and per-class like Startup can - but via the ace profile system, thus saving overhead.
Oh, I forgot to mention! ...
I got sick and tired of Sarf's AuraAspects a while ago and decided to look for an alternative, I found Aspected but it didn't have the alternative stuff for Shamans (you know, the weapon buffs and other buffs).
Now it does.
So you might want that version of Aspected, give it a whirl.
Dec 15, 2005I've been playing with it on Live (not Test).Posted in: Addon Ideas
It does have a few issues but I've cleaned those up, these are probably fixed on Test. Anyway ...
What I noticed was that when I sold something, the item would stay there but greyed out. What I've done is hook the containerframe button-click function. That way, whenever something is sold or the last of an item stack is used, the button clears instead of hanging around and being grey.
This is most noticable at a vendor.
Due to my own personal tastes. I've also setup InvSort to auto-open and auto-close at the vendor, bank and when the mail-frame is open.
These are just a few minor tweaks until 1.9 goes live. I've also got MoneyFrameNuker in there as an OptionalDep.
I have come across a rather serious problem but this might be because I'm playing on Live, not Test.
I've been playing around with it on my test characters until now, that's been fantastic. I just tried my main and 80 per cent of his herbs show up as Trade items, instead of Reagents.
Dec 15, 2005This is ... quite possibly ... the most amazing bag system I've ever seen. My hat's off to you, Ramble, it really is. I've always wanted an auto-organized bag. I've always wanted immediate access to all my foodstuffs (bye bye, AutoBar!) and man, am I impressed. You've outdone yourself this time. I always knew you were a good coder but damn, man.Posted in: Addon Ideas
Of course, this might just be my good mood after having had a wisdom tooth's pain come to an end but after the uglyness and bloat of Advanced Bags, after the uglyness and bloat of every other system out there, seeing something as sleek and beautiful as this continues to prove one thing. We have the best coders here and our guys? They do amazing shit.
There's only one, humble request I have. Add a hover-timer, the way I use tabs in Firefox is that if I hover over a button for X amount of time, it switches. You can use Timex for this. Basically use OnEnter and OnLeave. Then start the timer and if the mouse leaves the button before the timer is up, remove the timer. That's the only request I have.
Anyway, this is what I'll be using, now and til the end of time. And folks know that if it gets this glowing of a commendation from me, it has to be Just That Good. :p
One more suggestion (and anyone can do this) ...
MoneyFrameNuker seems to only add its stuff to InvSort after a reloadui, this is a shame because I really hate the default Blizzard coins frame, for someone with whack sight like mine, it messes with me. However, I found an easy solution. Add:
## OptionalDeps: MoneyFrameNuker
To the toc file, that fixes all.
Dec 13, 2005_ForgeUser788 posted a message on What's new in the ways of displaying buffs/debuffs?Personally I want to get the Auras AddOn finished, what was once a part of BoogieBox, then I wouldn't mind setting up an initiative to create/find sounds for every single buff, then I'd supply a version of hte AddOn with all those sounds. It'd be nice to be able to do that and to recognize a buff audially.Posted in: General Chat
What I also think would be fun would be to slap a HUGE freaking buff up just over the player's head, using something similar to what SCT uses. That way, you'll more easily spot debuffs as they appear temporarily as gigantic debuffs over people's heads. I doubt this is even possible but it might be, I'd have to look into it. It'd sort of be like the warrior's stances except with all buffs/debuffs.
Dec 12, 2005I like NeedyList, it's annoyingly procedural but the coder does seem to have decent coding habits and I approve. It's like with Gello's ItemRack, I've been poking at it lately and it's not bad. It's annoyingly procedural but at least he's doing his best not to purposefully bloat things out. MCom floored me though, I'm sorry to say that it's exactly the opposite. I say this from a viewpoint of personal taste and I'm entitled to my opinion.Posted in: Addon Ideas
The only reason I object to code like this is because some people wonder why they end up with 5FPS most of the time. :/ I just feel bad for these people. Nobody will ever understand that. Nor will they understand that I also feel bad for PCs running code that makes them go through thousands more cycles than they'd ever need to.
And there's nothing wrong with having an opinion, dammit! People can call me all the elitist arseholes under the sun but it doesn't make my words any less true.
Anyway, yeah, I recommend NeedyList. I'm going to continue to poke at CastOptions though to try and optimize it but ... it's going to take me a while. It's going to take me a long, good while because I have a lot of work to do.
