It's the Grandfather of the Mysterious G-Man!

Admittedly I was going for Half-Life 2's G-Man himself but I couldn't find anyone who was enough of a blockhead and they all smile this eery, disturbing, horrible smile. That and he ended up looking a lot like Odo pretending to be the Grandfather of the mysterious G-Man. So Grandfather it is!

... and now I really must stop playing with this damned thing.

This is for developers, really. I couldn't put it in the developer forum because it's not Ace-related.

Lately, I've been poking around with Lua as a games development environment. I've learned a few tricks along the way in regards to how one might use it outside of World of Warcraft. One curiousity I did come across was [Yindo].

It fascinates me because it's so close to what I'm used to with Ace and it looks disgustingly easy to use, from what I could discern from the source anyway, which actually made a disturbing amount of sense considering I'd never gotten into game development before. I'm going to continue to poke around with it and see if I can't make modifications to the pre-existing games and whether I couldn't come up with one of my own.

Since I'm no longer with Warcraft and I adore Lua, this looks like the next logical step and I figure that if anyone would appreciate the way they code (I strongly suggest taking a peek at the source of their Tron game), you would, Turan.

    Yes, yes it is!

I don't have stripey clothes unfortunately but someone I know is determined to make one of those multicoloured, stripey Doctor Who scarves, so that might serve me just as well.

    It's morning here, blasted timezones.

Anyway, just give me a rough estimate, I'll run it through a time converter and turn up then.

I should get back to playing Guild Wars, I really should. Not sure why I stopped. So, if you're up for playing, just shoot me a time and I'll be there.

Likewise but I care not because it's just so beautiful. Hell, people think I'm crazy when I listen to the entire score of the HMS Pinafore. Uncultured sods.

Don't worry Kayde, I was the same. I honestly didn't have a damned clue what to do at first until it all started coming together. These Korean games are weird. First they give us multiplayer Worms and now we have multiplayer Tomb Raider. What'll they do next?

    *Shudder.*

I hope not, I don't rap. Opera is a far cry from rap.

Gilbert and Sullivan? That's more like it! Gods, my music tastes are weird. I can even tolerate folk, most Japanese music and just about any weirdness anyone can throw at me ... well, except for rap. Unless it's really bad Japanese rap, then it's funny.

I'm actually a fan of accoustics and very alien music-stylings mostly and this is why I like the Operatic efforts of Nightwish. The singer has some very peculiar aspects to her voice that I appreciate.

Okay, so ... first impressions time.

    Character Creation

Oh look, a steam engine as the title screen. Nifty! I like steam engines. It's all in 3D. So I get my character standing in front of a steam engine. That's rather cool. Okay. Let's see here. Ooh, interesting. Hey, this guy has double machine-guns! Not very Western but it's time to go Woo on them! Yay for Akazi!

Er, he probably should be doing that. That's a wreckless thing to do with an Uzi. I mean, sure. You can twirl a six-shooter but an Uzi? Still, it looks groovy.

    Waiting for the Game

Chat room. AOL people. Lots of gogogo. Help me, my mind is melting. It's like the worst of Warcraft, I didn't need a reminder. Please, teach them how to use their native tongues, great dieties of language, I beg of you!

    "gogogogogogo"
    Sadgit isn't ready.
    Sadgit is ready.

    Sadgit is ready.
    "gogogogo omgogogogog gogog omg gogog"

You know vat you must do, Mr. Data? You muzt kill zem, kill zem all.

    In the Game

Okay! What? Wozzis? I have a katana? Where're my uzis? I want my Jon Woo! Damn you, damn you to hell! Okay, fine. So I can do sword slashes of two different types and I can ... I can block bullets with my sword, hey. That's pretty neat. It's still like Tomb Raider deathmatch though. Hm, hey. And I can wall-run! Woohoo, I can wallrun, I can wallrun, I can ...

    *Rowne falls into a pit.

    Game: Rowne has defeated himself!

    ... dammit.

    I shall do this!

    *Rowne falls into a pit.

    Game: Rowne has defeated himself!

    ... dammit!

There has to be a way!

    *Rowne falls into a pit.

    Game: Rowne has defeated himself!

    DAMMIT!

Okay, I need to read the manual. Advice to everyone and to myself. Read the damned manual before going back in. Find out how to get uzi's and how to run over pits.

    < Edit >

Oh, I also found out that F6 makes me bow and offer up a "Thank you so much!". Which I found out right after being fragged, once. So I hope it came over as sarcastic, a golf-clapping or a "May I have another?", if you will.

Legendarily crap? Stunningly gay (and no, I say this not derogatively as I happen to be myself, go figure)?

I'm about to install it. You may catch me before I do though if you hop on ICQ. I have a fix for your Ascend problem.

    Song: Nightwish - Gethsemane

Good for rocking out to. I've been listening to my Nightwish albums whilst grinding with my scrapper in City of Heroes.

It's fun envisioning the thought of a gigantic, medieval-themed robot with a broadsword, running past, swinging his sword merrily in a Monty Pythonesque way and singing Opera in a ludicrously high-pitched voice. Which I actually do RL since my voice is also British and also ludicrously high-pitched (and sometimes nasal to boot).

I'm now downloading the open beta of Gunz. Why? It's the Wild West, envisioned by Korea with Japanese pretty-boys, light sabers and magic. It's so absolutely awful that I can't put off trying it anymore. I think I have an inner sadistic urge that draws me to these things and it's irrepairable. I have absolutely no idea of what to expect from this, just like I didn't when I threw myself into the Irth beta (which I managed to endure for an entire day before giving into the pain of it all) but I'll let you know after I've tried it out.

It's one of those things that appeals to me because it has so many awful ideas thrown together that inversely, it might just manage to turn the Universe inside out and pull a strange form of niftyness out of its arse in doing so. I blame Britain for this, Monty Python and Doctor Who, I have an affinity for cheese and really horrible things. So if anyone wishes to share in that, you're welcome to download the beta and try it out with me.

I have this nagging feeling though that this is going to be a genuinely painful experience.

    < Edit >

... and it has a guy with a "No Frogs" sign printed on the back of his long, flowing trenchcoat in it. My urge to play this game is rising.
