Isn't it funny how you don't care about Curse doing exactly the same thing?
Show me where Curse does this. Show me. I would like a link to any feature they have that abuses RSS feeds to pirate addons. If this is true I will also boycott their site. Proof.
Nov 19, 2007Well said, Seerah. My UI compilation is only available in one place, for largely different reasons, but one place nonetheless. I, also, would not want someone uploading it somewhere else without my knowledge even though it's not techincally written by me.Posted in: General Chat
On another note, from the thread going on directly on WoWUI, it pretty much sounds to me like the may plan on going ahead with the links. Even going so far as to explain how they "Will" work, with no comments active and with direct links back to this site, etc.
EDIT: All the addons are up there. There is an option in their "mods" drop down menu to choose Ace SVN Mods. The list is all the mods from the WoWAce download page.

And why don't you want to use rock libs? oO
Ok it shows some bugs, rockconfig isn't easy to use, but this finally works pretty well ...
Do you have a real problem with ckk libs or is it just "because"??
He told you why, he doesn't like them. He likes the way the old options were with the Ace version of Fubar. Tastes vary.

We've turned this off now. To be honest, we have very few options when it comes to dealing with Ace mods on the site, as hardly any authors upload theirs to it, so we saw this as our only option to get the Ace mods on there.
The reason that Ace mod authors don't upload their mods to your site is because they choose not to. That doesn't give you any reason, or license to upload them, in any fashion, behind their backs or without asking them. Quite honestly, it speaks pretty loudly on it's own, and I won't be returning to your site myself.

WAU > your solution & *
i don"t want to visit your site to get an addon that i can just update via WAU; hell i don"t want to even go to WoWInterface to update an addon even tho their site is 1000x better than yours and is less intrusive and better designed, thats where WUU comes in.
sorry your *new* thing fails.
Even for some of us who can not use WAU(long story, don't ask), most all of us know about WoWAce's direct download site, and would rather get our downloads RIGHT HERE on this site, we can give feedback here and it will be seen.
You're releasing code, sometimes alpha and beta quality, to people who have NO IDEA what to do with it, how to use it, or where to go to get answers. These authors aren't going to want to go all the way to your site to check yet another thread about their addons, and you're just going to frustrate newer addon users.
I'm kind of concerned that you didn't go through the proper channels to do this, are you going to do this with all the mods on Curse and WoWInterface, too? I can't imagine this thing being ok, due to copyrighting issues.
We update directly from Ace, because this is where our answers are. And people who don't know about Ace, certain will sooner or later just by word of mouth. But why would they download from your site and then come here to report bugs, etc.? They wouldn't.
I don't agree with this, at all.
EDIT: I quoted Orion because he talks about the WAU, which I can not use, but most everyone else CAN.

Ace3 is being used as a replacement for the current Dongle code in Combuctor to both mess around with Ace3, and also because I'm not using the profile code in it yet, too.
Ace3 isn't nearly as heavy as Ace2/Rock, so there's no current need to worry about bloat :)
I also have no plans to kill off Bagnon.
Well, that was my concern, bloat. I'm glad to hear that Ace3 is different. Can't wait for everything to go to that, if that's the case.
I love Combuctor, it's running flawlessly for me and I haven't had one issue with it. I really like the look and feel of it and I think you're on the right track with it.
Nov 9, 2007_ForgeUser75072 posted a message on Combuctor: All in one, filterable displays for your inventory and bankI'm very interested in this and I am anxious to test it out. I do have a couple of questions that I did not see in the thread anywhere, if I missed them I apologize.Posted in: General AddOns
1. Will you be discontinuing your updates on Bagnon once this is out of Beta?
2. In your FAQ you mention possible Aceing this when Ace 3 is ready and my question pertains to whether or not there is a possibility of you releasing 2 versions of this, one Ace'd and one NOT Ace'd. Reason for this question is, I'm really frowning on downloading yet another Ace'd addon when the addon would function perfectly well without it. I know people will want that and that's cool, but I have so many of them at this point that this is the major reason I still use Bagnon.
Any answers are appreciated and keep up the good work!

Why didn't you simply check through this thread first? :/
Honestly? Because I didn't have time. Sorry, thanks for the info.

No, because I haven't heard of anyone else getting taint from PitBull. Hundreds (maybe thousands now?) of people use it with FuBar and older FuBar plugins (which use FuBarPlugin-2.0) and have not had any issue with it.
1. How do you know it is tainting?
2. Are you getting any errors?
3. What makes you believe it is caused by PitBull and FuBarPlugin-2.0?
4. There's a mod to track down taint, but the name escapes me atm...
UPDATE: NVM, I found the source of the problem, and it's now working fine. The problem was that in all my updating, I somehow missed Fubar itself, and was running a pretty old copy of it.
Nov 7, 2007Just a quick head's up on a bug with the upcoming patch. I get this error on the PTR with EBB.Posted in: General AddOns
Error: attempt to index global 'MiniMapTrackingFrame' (a nil value)
Unfortunately, they added a minimap tracking button that mimics addons like Fizwidget's track menu.....I wish they hadn't.
Oct 14, 2007You aren't bearing any news, sorry. Broadcasting my position to my guildmates is a lot different than broadcasting my talents to total strangers, to me anyway. It's not the same thing, and it's also a well known feature, not something they slipped in under the radar like they had something to hide. If they'd notified people so that others could turn it off it they'd wanted to, this whole argument wouldn't be here.Posted in: Rock
Also, the "ZOMG" stuff is really old and tired. I don't really care about the privacy thing, I don't like the features for my own reasons. But I'm posting here because I really look down on people being sneaky and underhanded. I've taken steps for myself to get around it, I'm only providing feedback.
EDIT: I'm going to edit my post to say one more thing on this topic, so that maybe people will understand why some of us are really leery of this kind of thing.
The difference between addon authors doing it and Blizzard doing it is, Blizzard isn't hiding it from us. They are flat out telling us that it's going to be done. And there's not a toggle for that. Blizzard isn't taking advantage of people being completely oblivious. RockComm is taking advantage of that, knowingly, by not putting this feature in the addon information and description.
Now, I would hope that people aren't stupid enough to ignore a brand new mini map button that is just screaming, "CHECK ME OUT! I wasn't here earlier!!!" But, hey, there are people like this out there and it's being sneaky not to document this feature and have it toggled OFF by default....

Maybe you should make clear that it's only your opinion.. and not start talking about how many people might find an addon useful or not.
Enjoy your gameplay until 2.3 ... then everybody in 30yards range can check your talents... I hope you find a lonely place to hide somewhere.
Again with the vague insults. You're not helping yourself, here. It's a fact that only a small percentage of the playerbase will find that addon useful and if you can't see that then you are deluding yourself. Not everyone who plays WoW uses Ace Addons, or even addons, period. So, I was right there. Only a small fraction of people would find that addon useful, and you just can't deal with people having differentiating opinions, apparently. I'm sorry. I can't help you with that and don't really care to, I'm not alone in my opinion.
Plus, no one really has to point out that it's an opinion because when people post judging addons, it's ALWAYS an opinion. Just a fact.
Enjoy your game, and please especially enjoy the fact that just because I have an opinion about hating Armory and patch 2.3's inspect changes and RockComm.....I still love you! :P
Oct 14, 2007Your argument against me was to point out that I have no authority to decide which addons are necessary and which aren't. It's an opinion, dafire, plain and simple an opinion that the addon is unnecessary addon bloat. So, I gave you back what you dished out and basically called you on something you didn't say. Don't put words in my mouth, I said, plainly, that if people get use out of it, fine, but it's unnecessary. Opinion. Like the one you had about forum bloat...Posted in: Rock
Irony. Bucket loads of it.
If you can't have a discussion without resorting to vague insults, please don't respond to me, because I won't give them back to you. I disagree with their doing this against people's knowledge, apparently I'm not alone.
EDIT: And that's what people do on addon forums, the JUDGE other people's addon, as is our right as users.
