I am new to lua.
Right now I am trying to figure out how to make a very fast bit of code to broadcast my targetoftarget to a frame or chat message.
The goal here is to catch boss target swaps that are faster then my UI can update visually(pitbull3 is a bit slow, gonna try 4 next week) so I can heal incoming damage faster. Originally I wanted to dump the target swaps into my focus frame for x seconds... but yeah, protected. =[ Dealing with that is way above me.
How do I poll for target of target changes very fast, I understand there is no event for this?
How do I deal with the protected issues?
targetoftarget's will always be players in the raid... so I could create a 'recently targeted by my target' frame for units in raid? Ideas?
Thanks for the input

Apr 17, 2009Hi,Posted in: Addon Ideas
I haven't been around much recently but I was wondering if there is a profile manager around, specifically for dual spec swapping?
Most of the addons I use seem to have a profile manager built into them identical to other addons. I guess that's aceDB-3.0 I am seeing at work.
Either way, I am looking for something to swap profiles in the following addons with one or two clicks (automatically on spec swap even better):
Apr 17, 2009This conversation has been putting around for a while now. How many times have you linked your addon Orion? (o:Posted in: Addon Ideas
I was thinking through some stuff for a 'generic loot council' assistance mod a little while ago, but I get distracted quite easily. ???
Certainly a worthy project though.
Mar 17, 2009Posted in: Lua Code DiscussionQuote from ElsiaI do not know how this works, but here is a piece of observation:
The characters on the login screen are not sorted by creation date but oddly in another order. Some appear to be in creation order some are placed earlier.
My assumption is that this is linked to GUID and, assuming that the character login order is sorted by GUID, it indicates that indeed GUIDs are not just incremented but that freed up GUIDs are reused.
That's purely speculation though. There is a way to test though. Create a number of character. Delete the first one and create a new one (and hope noone did so in the meantime).
Pretty sure they are just sorted by /played time... Confirmation?
Mar 15, 2009Fristly, I am looking for (ideally) a library that handles data synchronization, or code snipets that show some sync'n?Posted in: Lua Code Discussion
Secondly, I am looking for a conversation on how one should go about creating a data sync system... say between two people running a loot tracking mod.
Thirdly, I'd be happy to just go read in a corner if someone has links. (o:
Mar 11, 2009This conversation reminds me of a problem I had a while ago, in TBC. I was running a pugging system, basically a tagless guild. Because we didn't have any addon channels available for the membership to communicate (guild, party, raid didn't exist) I was unable to use organizational features in-game that I really wished I could have. Such as:Posted in: Lua Code Discussion
- An open calendar
- A decentralized ranking system
- Authentication (is this toon supported by the pug system/community?)
There are probably a few more ideas I had at the time that I wanted to work on, but I got pretty deterred by the limited scope of 'hidden' data channels.
I'd be happy to take up some of the projects I had in mind related to this if there was a way for addons to communicate in a channel not related to guild, party, raid or whisper data channels.
Ideas on how to accomplish this?
Mar 7, 2009Hey,Posted in: Lua Code Discussion
I am new to Lua and wow interface design. My question is as follows:
What is the best way to communicate between one addon and another. Specifically, I am thinking my way through setting up something in a client/server sort of relationship.
addon_client wants to send addon_sever a message, likewise addon_sever wants to some control over addon_client to set when it is active.
This is a loot broadcast/request thing I am trying to plan out.
Is it worth spliting up, or should I look at other ways to determine if a player is a client or a server and keep the communication stuff simple?
Feb 21, 2009Posted in: Raid AddOnsQuote from nsknikeI don't know if this has been posted before, sorry if it has.
So me and my friends are going to be starting a new guild pretty soon, and we will be using Loot Council. We want to be able to see what people have looted and what their raid attendance is.
Is there anyway using Headcount that I can export to our forums, and it will show us a persons overall raid attendance throughout all of our raids? Thanks for the help.
I don't think anyone replied to this yet nsknike. I find the best use for headcount is specifically for collecting and exporting data to a website. Our guild uses an EQDKP-plus CMS for our web presence (see here). It is very simple to update with headcount and headcount offers us all the tools we need as a loot counciled guild. None of that annoying DKP tracking crap for us.
So to answer your question, headcount can export in the following formats:

Feb 9, 2009I might be a little late in on this conversation... But as an avid raider and someone who leads a lot of pug raids an in-game imba-like addon would be perfect in speeding up my evaulation of pugees.Posted in: Addon Ideas
No need to harp on the website. it's implementation is a little short, but the concept is great and possible to execute very well.
I am interested in knowing a few things when I evaluate a player for raid:
1) have they taken the time to socket/enchanter properly
2) are the spec'd right
3) are the focusing on the right areas gear wise (hit caps, stat order etc.)
An imba-like mod has a LOT to offer in this category that something like gearscore will always fall short on.

Good question though, does it support loot tells? I don't recall seeing the feature when I was playing with it.

I would be interested in that as well. Our attendance and loots taken are tracked via headcount and exported to the eqdkp+ CMS. Idealy I want to tie our system together, so that attendance and loots taken are included with the tells. An automated system for this seems like a nice tool.
