It is an interesting idea. Might be cool if it could do both buffs and debuffs.

You can see them all, buff and debuff, on the right side of this page. http://raidcomp.mmo-champion.com/

    cool.. i didn't know that page .)

still.. there is no big advantage to give an embedded library an extra addon to store data over not embedding the library at all.
the disadvantages like confusing the user that don't know what he can delete when uninstalling addons (and confusing updaters) are bigger in my eyes.

If you're going to use a saved data with part of an embedded library it's layout (even if private) should be treated as part of the API. If a change that isn't backwards compatible is made it's time to go to a new major version.

yeah .. and that new version would then get an other named saved variables addon ?
A user has to know which addons use which folders to know when he can remove them.
Always when I think about it, it gets even worse :9

... or maybe the embedded library should be the one moved down to the root addon level, responsible only for maintaining its own savedvars and nothing else ...

I.e. my AddOn zip actually contains two AddOns inside it! (Yes, versioning problems. Grrrrrr....)

Yeah.. the problem is with embedded libraries you will get into heavy trouble if you want to change the data structure for example.

with a disembedded library the installed version will never be replaced with an older version (except if you are using curse updater *caugh*) ... but with embedded libraries it can happen all the time.

eg. installed addon A includes library C 1.2 and addon B includes library C 1.3.

When both addons are loaded everything is fine... the embedded library from B will replace the old version from A.. the first time it will make sure that the data structure is updated to the new version.

But what happens when addon B is disabled, or if it's an load on demand addon loaded only in raid ? Then on next login the old version of the library will be active with 1.3 version of the data.

is there a reason the fortress tooltips are mouse enabled ? If you align the blocks vertically that's annoying that you can't move from block to block because the next block is covered by the tooltip and it will stay if you hover the mouse over it.

    maybe make it configurable ?

This reminds me on my suggestion to let the packager add disembedded libraries to the required deps field instead using the soft fallback optdeps .)

well ... some people seam to forget that the client already uses databases... they are just not accessible by the addon api :) All .wdb files are database files.

would it make sense to also add raid-wide buffs ? There are some that proc / come from pets that are not really "buffed" like +spelldamage from demologist pet crits, +healt from imp, spirit/int from felhunter.

well.. whatever solution they would choose it would still load all data on login/reloadui.

they don't want you to be able to load data from a file/database at a later point, or store data at other times other then a reloadui or logout.

I don't like the idea at all.

If you need a pseudo-addon on root level to save the variables of an embedded library, then it simply should not be an embedded library.

there are people who backup parts of their saved variables.. and when you start saving data in other "addons" it's not longer transparent to the user. There is a lot you have to think about like changing the data on version upgrades/downgrades of the library and stuff.

I know you can do lots of fancy stuff and circumvent missing features with tricks like that.. but sometimes it's just better to keep things simple.

They won't add anything that would allow you to read/write data to disk
