posted a message on ArkInventory v3
    Hi all,

I'm running a bit low on FPS lately, especially and most massively in 25-man raids when there's a lot of visual effects being displayed (e.g. during lustism, but also in the Festergut encounter with that orange cloud all across the room). I presume(d) that it might have something to do with addons consuming too much CPU time, thus I enabled CPU profiling using Broker_CPU.

At the moment I see those addons at the top of the list that have to do with unit frames and buff/debuff filtering such as Grid, Pitbull4, Decursive - no surprise at all. But what strikes me is that way above those is ArkInventory with about 25% of the total time (e.g. 50 s of 200 s), sometimes even more. Disabling any of the most time-consuming addons ingame yields a significant increase in FPS (going from about 12-14 to about 20-24 with AI, Grid, and Decursive disabled; note that I only do this ingame with the appropriate slash commands such as /grid standby).

I have setup AI that it only does the sorting of the bags when the window is opened, but that didn't change anything concerning the CPU usage (which is funny by itself as I don't see a reason why an inventory addon should be consuming CPU time infight at all when it isn't accessed). As I can't even imagine not using AI anymore, I need to find a solution for this problem. (As a workaround, I could of course write a short macro that disables the mentioned addons with only one button, but... well.) Perhaps I should add that before AI went crazy about CPU usage, it was Prat that did pretty much the same thing until I exchanged it for Chatter. Thus I suppose that it might be one of the embedded libraries that is causing the problem, and AI gets blamed because it's one of the first addons in the list and as such is somehow the "owner" of said library.

My main questions about this are
    1) Does anyone know of a solution/addon/whatever that could help me narrow this down to the "true" source?
    2) Whenever a change of my inventory occurs when the AI window is closed, I notice a spike of CPU activity for AI even with instant sorting disabled (see above). For example, if I automagically macro-disenchant stuff incl. auto-loot without opening the AI window, this spike occurs; same applies to milling herbs and exploring ores. Is there an option I might have missed in the config of AI? Or is it again something that is just attributed to AI but not primarily caused by it?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    TIA & HAND, Chinkuwaila.

@Nasrik: Yes, I did refresh the profession. I was aware of that fact that Manufac doesn't update dynamically, but refreshing the data didn't help any. Bolt of Netherweave Cloth was still orange, while the crafting window showed it in green after disabling Manufac.

Thanks for pointing it out anyway :-)

Well, I must confess that I'm a bit confused. When I moved my tailor to the Outlands yesterday to start skilling tailoring to 375 I noticed that "Bolt of Netherweave Cloth" was listed orange in the Manufac menu even though it became green at 315 (at the latest) and later gray. For cooking on a different char everything was listed correctly I think (same for first aid and enchanting). I will try to get some more information on this and will try to reproduce it. Could you please take a look at it, perhaps something really obvious is going wrong?

    TIA & HAND,

    Hiho Arkayenro,

one thing that's still on my wishlist is a set of config options like, say, MonkeyQuest's "Expand Upwards" option. Let's take my own setup as an example: I have my inventory window located in the lower right corner of the screen, so that any change of its height pushes its lower border off screen. Same applies when switching Edit Mode on - the window expands to the right and downwards, both off screen with my specific configuration. My suggestion is to add a feature like "fix lower right corner" or "fix right border", the former making the AI window expand to the left and upwards, the latter to the left only. Do you think you could add such a feature? I would be really grateful for it.

    TIA & HAND,
    Chinkuwaila.

Yes, I am aware of that bug, it was reported yesterday by guildies, too. Alas, I was unable to fix it due the laggy SVN that prevented me from checking out the most recent version. I will have a look into the deDE locals later today when I get home (if it's not already fixed until then).

    Thanks for reporting however. :-)

Kodewulf, somehow Cart_Vendors seems to save its data in localized format. Could you please have a look at this, as I think it shouldn't be this way.

Don't want to disappoint you, but all credits for this fix go out to ckknight; I just tried to provide some information on this. I don't even know if that was helpful at all. ;-)

Excuse me, I don't want to start a translation flame war here (should continue this via PNs perhaps, as the majority of regulars in this thread will surely be not interested), but reading this makes me somehow mad.

Cosmetic because every Translator would write parts in a different way but with the same sense.

Probably some of the changes I did may be seen as cosmetic, and obviously we're of different opinions on this point. But if any two translations have exactly the *same* sense, there is no need whatsoever to change them - and I wouldn't do it either. No personal offense, but by contrast some of the previous menu entries resp. tooltip descriptions were really not understandable by people - I wrote earlier that I asked them. Most of them only could tell the meaning because they knew the functionality behind - if they didn't, they did also not understand. That's not what I call "same sense", don't you?

Did you ask the Authors if you can change/translate their Addons or just did it?

No, I didn't. If I should have, I apologize for having it left undone. I was of the opinion that every contribution, even marginally changes, was welcome. If I'm wrong, just let me know. :-/

Some Authors here have a personal Style how they write the descriptions for Options of their Addons you should not change this even in a translation.

You surely know that you can _not_ translate everything just word by word - personal style or not. You can indeed try to transfer a personal style into another language, but in some cases you _will_ definitely fail. Perhaps you have noticed that even some English descriptions/texts are full of typos or other faults - why should I ever translate such a text under retention of the errors? Why the hell should I? And I bet that most of the authors would prefer a translation that expresses the true meaning over one that is word-by-word at the expense of comprehensibility.

    Chinkuwaila.

P.S.: Is there a chance to contact you ingame or do you prefer PNs?

I have the same problem together with others using the German client. I don't have herb nodes for every zone, but as the mining nodes show the behavior Hellknight described in almost every zone I assume that the herbs will do the same (I can confirm it at least for Eastern Plaguelands). It does seem to apply to all types of map notes (confirmed it for quest givers, herbs, ores, and notes added manually).
You seem to be right with your suggestion about a bug in Tourist. At least the names of the affected zones in Babble-Zone are correct.

Flarin, to answer your second question first: yes, there was indeed a menu entry to change the keybindings. AFAICS this functionality was removed and put into the standard keybindings menu. There you should find a subsection titled "Bartender 3" with a complete list of all bars and their keys.

    @Gamefaq:

I know that the files are UTF-8 formatted, but until now I was of the opinion that keeping everything in plain ASCII was the better choice, all the more as the readability didn't suffer too much. However, it's no problem to revert it to diacritics, will do this when finished posting. ;-)

Second, I do not change translations solely due to cosmetic reasons. I try to make them better understandable for the user. And in the case of Bartender there were several options and tooltip texts that people just didn't understand - I'm sure on this point, cause I've asked them...

My point is (generally speaking, not referring to Bartender alone): we have a good concept with a great implementation (as is the case with most addons the ace community produces) - why should we prevent the addons from being used just by having a shabby translation? I've seen this happen to several other addons that people just stopped using because they couldn't cope with them due to bad translation. In many cases no translation would have been better than _such_ a translation. If one had to translate the German words back to English to understand anything, what would _that_ be good for? Furthermore, no translation should ever be declared unalterable, there will always be someone to know better (which I also accept for my own work).
Ah, BTW, what is your argument against better sounding translations? Extremely speaking: just having some German words tossed into the locals file doesn't automatically make a good translation; why shouldn't we use the language as precisely as possible? IMO we definitely need the best possible translation because (see above) the addon's usability depends on. We need continuous improvement.

Perhaps we should think of a separate localization forum to discuss the subleties or even translation issues in general? ;-)

    Cheers, Chinku.

P.S.: If we had more German translators, we perhaps should assign the basic translation work to one of them and let the result be reviewed by others?

P.P.S.: If you think (what I do not hope :-)) Bartender's German locals file is worse than before due to my changes just let me know what exactly you dislike. I'd be happy to learn what I could do better in the future.

    Hi all,

on the modifiers for bar paging: I think there could be a problem with the ctrl key. I added today the support for translating the modifier key names (ctrl, alt, shift), as at least the ctrl key has a different name in German (*sigh*, if there's a localization problem, it's always with German, isn't it? ;-)).
But with the translation ("Strg") in the locals file the functionality was broken, so I changed it back to "Ctrl". My request is if anyone could have a look at the reason for this, i.e. why the key name has to be in English for the paging feature to work correctly? If it's unavoidable to leave everything in English, I'm fine with that, but I would at least like to be able to capitalize the key names as this looks much better in German. ;-)

    TIA, Chinkuwaila.

Ups, my fault. Sorry for bothering folks. Just didn't understand that this error too is caused by a disabled module... The icon names indeed get translated to German automatically - MAGIC! Thanks a lot. :-)

    Hiho,

possibly there is a bug in Cartographer_Noteshare or Cartographer_Herbalism/Mining: whenever I send data over the Guild channel to other players, the map notes are added with a red "?" as icon. Additionally (we're using the German client) the names of the herbs/ores are enteres in English. Interestingly the treasure like Blood of Heroes are correctly added in German. Could someone please have a look at this as it's quite annoying?

    TIA, Chinkuwaila.

    EDIT: sender's using r23181, receiver 23060.
