I found the default 64x64 looked bad when i made the sphere as large as i wanted, so i remade them all to be 256x256. Also, everything has proper anti-aliasing. looks MUCH MUCH better.
what would be a good place to upload it to so i can link if anyone is interested?

Elite_Gamer04: It's still there, but the textures are generally the same texture as the main one in all the skins, so it just gets a little more opaque. They need different ones ;)
I can help make some, but since im an idiot in modding, could you do me a favor and make seperate files for the press_down (like serenity_down.tga), and just release them as the same as the original?
That way I can mess around with something and give it to you.

anyway, after reading other people's ideas, here is some photoshop mock-ups:
here is an extreme zoom up of a box:
of course, everything can be turned on/off. This, in my opinion, will alllow people to get the maximum info without cluttering or confusing. having each kind of debuff take up a corner, plus being its own color (these colors are, of course, just temporary) makes it easily recognizable by both position and color, without getting in the way of the main box.
the aggro/healing colors are a continuation of Craygz's idea. Kinda cool, and if yuo dont like em, keep em off (imo, they should default off).
here is a whole frame (the buttons look kinda ugly, since they are just copy/pastes of everything on from the zoom in):
-On the top left are configurable buff/heal/whatever buttons. Just simply click it, then a box, and blammo, that spell is cast.
-On the bottom are 2 bars. on the right (blue) is a manabar. I just thought it would be helpful to have it here since if you are using Grid, your eyes dont have to travel to your unitframe to see how you are doing on mana.
-On the left is a "5 second rule" bar. I don't know if this has ever been made, but I thought it would be very nice to have, and would complete the small, grid all-in-one healer mod in this compact area.
Anyway, there are some ideas. Toss em around :)

below the grid, have a manabar with cur/max, and below that a very thin five-second-rule counter bar... I will draw one up after I get some sleep to show the idea visually. I think it would be very sleek, and not muddy up the mod.

As a non LUA programmer, I am most likely showing alot of ignorance, but the logical person in me makes me think:
Does this mean that such simple things as Bar Switching in Actionbar addons for such things as Shapeshifting/Stances/Stealth are not going to work? Will this force all Druids/Warriors/Rogues to use the crappy default Action Bars?

I think we should keep it with health in the box, and then choices in a menu for the inner/outer border. Any more little boxes, etc, will make these squares too busy to show what they are truly for: healers who are clickcasting a whole raid.
Graphically, I made a little throw together of a frame. I will work on more when I get the chance.

also, I have made a 1/5ths version for any rogues out there
to use them, just simply rename the bars as one that is already in the mod that you won't use.

get visor & visorgui, and hide the "MinimapBorderTop" frame.
