Is there a way to change the font of the combatlog lines? Mine are really small (much smaller than on your screenshot) and are hard to spot tbh.
Additionally, I was wondering if there's a way you could disable info gathering on thrash packs? I'm not sure if it's Ancheron, or something else bothering my setup yet, but whenever in Sunwell and we fight thrash my fps goes down alot, bosses are fine.
I'm sorry that I didn't try this myself and disabled Ancheron on thrash to test it and there's a few days before I'm in a raid again.
Perhaps you know if this would affect thrash more than bosses performance wise?

Great concept though, I like the layout better than GrimReaper.

There's nothing that I know of that should impact performance differently between bosses and trash. Detecting the difference and enabling Acheron dynamically is probably more complicated than I want to get. But I think I probably should add an easier way to enable/disable Acheron from in-game config.

I'll also look at adding some more display-oriented configuration, such as the font and font size.

I get unexp. Mainhand buff (WF)...correct?

Hrm, no, that shouldn't be correct. I haven't seen that happen before. Can you describe the scenario under which that happened?

if I shift-rightlick there are no whispers, but messages like "no buffer found for ***"

The shift-right-click only works after someone has already buffed you with the buff in question, so that it knows who to whisper. On the tooltip, if it knows who has buffed something, you'll see the name in parenthesis next to the buff. At that point, you should be able to shift-right-click and send a whisper directly to them.

is there an option to check for ONLY guardian OR battle elixir (normally only use AGI on my shaman)

If you're not using both elixirs, you can always set up a custom buff check to ignore whichever one you're not using. You can find that under the 'Custom' section of the config.

I'm trying to keep the actual output relatively compact. What's not obvious from the screenshot, though, is that a tooltip pops up for each line of the report that contains more detailed information (any thing of note about the event like a crit or crush or special debuff as well as the actual combat log text). So I could probably throw the current/max health in there.

"Acheron translates as the "river of woe" and it was believed to be a branch of the underworld river Styx over which in ancient Greek mythology Charon ferried the newly dead souls across into Hades."

Acheron provides an easily readable glimpse into the cause of death for anyone in your raid or party. In addition to the damage and healing that occurred to someone up to their moment of death, Acheron also tracks and displays key debuffs from bosses in 25-man raids which may also contribute to someone's death (Melt Armor on Al'ar, Corrosion on Felmyst, etc).

Right-clicking on a raid/party member unit frame will find a new option 'Show Death Reports'. Should be pretty self-explanatory from there.

/acheron config to bring up the config

Thanks. I'd still like to know why the memory growth is happening during combat, though. BuffEnough doesn't really store much, so I'm not sure why that would happen. You mentioned a couple of tools, Expo (which I see in the SVN repo) and optionhouse (which I don't). Anyone else have any recommendations for debugging memory issues? What's the standard procedure for that sort of thing in WoW's Lua environment? I also so tekkub's tekSupport in the Developer Tools section of the SVN, could that be applicable?

Hrm, everything appears to be in working order from my end. Can you try to describe a specific scenario where the check didn't happen correctly?

Note that BuffEnough only does checks when events happen that would prompt it to check (things like having a buff cast on you, pulling a pet out, swapping a piece of equipment, etc). It doesn't continuously check on its own.

There are a number of good tooltip addons that allow you to change the anchor location for the tooltip, as well as set an offset for the distance from that anchor. I'm a fan of Cowtip, but there are several others as well.

Hrm, good question. Are you running it with embeds or no?

Either way, an option to turn off scanning during combat is a good idea, I'll add that.

There's a purpose to having OnTooltipShow (a data provider that wants to let the display manage the tooltip) versus OnEnter/OnLeave (a data provider that wants to manage its own tooltip). There's a far greater overlap between OnToolipShow and tooltiptext, though, so dropping one of them makes a lot of practical sense.

    .tooltiptext
As I read this it's an addition to what you want at the top of the tooltip, like a title or addon name.

Ah! Maybe that's where my confusion lies. When I read the Data Specifications, specifically the 'Handling tooltips' section, I read it as there are four exclusive options for populating the tooltip, of which .tooltiptext is one.

I didn't make any mention of OnEnter/OnLeave in my original bug report, so it didn't occur to me that you might be talking about those methods. When I said:
SBC appears to use both .OnTooltipShow and .tooltiptext simultaneously, if they're both there

    you replied
I assume the plugin has one or the other, not both, I don't see why on earth it should have both

So I'm not sure which one of us is confused (probably me), but the bottom line is that if a data feed implements both .tooltiptext and .OnTooltipShow, I don't think SBC should show the text twice in the tooltip.

I assume the plugin has one or the other, not both, I don't see why on earth it should have both. It should only have OnEnter if it wants to do stuff itself with the tooltip, otherwise OnToolTipShow, and save a few lines of code.

Actually, SBC does assume the plugin has both because it's only adding .tooltiptext if the plugin is also providing .OnTooltipShow:

    if evt:find("OnTooltipShow") then
      ...
      if obj.tooltiptext then _G.GameTooltip:SetText(obj.tooltiptext, 0.5, 0.5, 0.8) end
      ...
    else

As to why there might be both, I understood from the dataobject example in the LDB documentation, that a display addon doesn't necessarily have to implement all of the various tooltip functions, and so the data feed may implement different options depending on how fancy the display wants to get. The example code shows .tooltiptext, .OnTooltipShow, and .OnEnter/OnLeave all implemented. I may be taking that example too literally though. Is the intent for the data feed to provide one and only one means for the tooltip?

I meant specifically with regards to using more than one tooltip method simultaneously (ie. the tooltip has the same text appear twice), rather than picking one and only one. In terms of priority, your ordering makes sense, most to least dynamic. But the data feed shouldn't make any assumptions about which one the display will choose in which order, so it probably doesn't matter anyway.

Seems to be a disparity between SBC and Fortress on the LDB tooltip implementation. Specifically, SBC appears to use both .OnTooltipShow and .tooltiptext simultaneously, if they're both there, whereas Fortress uses one and only one (.tooltiptext first, I believe, and then .OnTooltipShow if the former isn't present). Posting here because I think Fortress is doing it correctly according to my understanding of the LDB spec.

I found this to be a pretty handy quick primer on LUA. In particular, take a look at the sections on Tables and Strings, I think that will answer at least question #3 and #4. Also, WoWWiki is an invaluable reference resource for the in-game API, events, UI widgets, etc.
