There is a problem with the localization implementation of chat channels.

Good catch, also. I'll try to get a fix in soon.

Acheron does in fact do that to an extent. Specifically, it will mark the log if the player has a debuff which will impact that player's survival (Stomp from Brutallus, Dark Touched from Twins, etc). It should have every relevant debuff from every 10 and 25 man raid boss in BC, but if you know of a specific debuff that's missing that you'd like to see, do let me know and I'll add it.

The kinds of questions you want answered are beyond the scope of what Acheron can do at the moment because it involves far more complex correlation between players and actions. How would Acheron be able to discern that the reason the tank died is that the main tank healers were silenced, for example. It would have to somehow understand who the main tank healers were (track some sort of total healing?) and then track a silence debuff on someone else in the context of that player's death. And that would really only be a loose correlation at best. Not impossible stuff, just very complex.

The other alternative is for Acheron to simply display a more "raw" view of the combat log so that you might be able to discern these things for yourself. But that would ruin the concise data that it provides, which I think is one of the nice things about Acheron, and that still probably wouldn't answer some of the questions you want to ask. One of the reasons I made Acheron was I wanted a different view of what happened than the current implementations that provide similar functionality could offer (Grim Reaper, Expiration, Recount, etc).

I will definitely continue to improve on Acheron whenever I can, and hopefully provide more and more useful information to answer the kinds of questions that you (and me too, for that matter) would like answered.

Yes, in fact, that sounds like it might just work. Your sig holds up once again!

I think you're right, but I don't see an API for that. Closest I can find is DisplayChannelOwner() which only outputs the result directly to the chat frame. Is there one I'm missing?

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

I think the main thing (after I get my mods working for beta and finally have my fill of Deathknight fun) is to revamp the entry point to the UI a little bit. Possibly display more of a timeline format, rather than a per player format (there would still be a filter option for individual players).

First pass at a WotLK-beta-compatible version checked in to branch. More changes yet to make and I'm sure I've missed some important class changes. So please do give it a test on beta, if you use BE, and let me know what I've missed.

The drop-down menu selects the channel to which you want to report. You click on the line of the report from which you want to report in order to output it (mousing over each line prompts you in the tooltip). For example, if you have ten seconds of entries, and you click on an entry at -3.000 seconds, it will report everything from that point to death to your selected channel.

Adding the ability to save reports across sessions is definitely on my list of things to do.

That would be better, yeah. Initially, I wasn't sure about how/if channel names were localized, and so the current implementation was a quick way to get it working. Since then, when I've looked, the addons I've seen that provide some sort of reporting to channels either just display all of them, including the server-generated ones (not fond of that), or else use the >number (prone to the above mentioned issue), so I assume this is a common challenge. Is there an obvious way to do it, or an easy way to do the localization?

Thanks for the bug report, I'll take a look.

By the way, I'm still planning to do a revamp of the UI to make it a little more user friendly. But the beta has been... a little distracting. ;)

I was going to post a report to our class leads channel last night and realized that it wasn't in the dropdown. It seems that the channel dropdown doesn't pick up all of the channels I'm in for some reason.

Was it a channel with a num < 5 perchance? Acheron only grabs the channels > 4, but maybe there's a better way to do that.

Can't really remember what i was doing when i got this error.

I've seen this one come up for me as well, once or twice, but I can never figure out the circumstance or reproduce it. If anyone else sees this happen and can recall exactly what was going on when it happened, please let me know.

FYI, I'm on vacation atm and the internet connection where I'm at suuuuu-uuucks. So I won't be having any updates on Acheron until the end of the week.

Hrm. One of them in a different zone perhaps? Like after a wipe, you were inside but one of them was still running back? I'll play with the paladin blessings logic a little bit and see if I can figure out what's going on.

Basically the same issue. If it doesn't know that a paladin has kings in the raid, it's going to assume kings is an invalid buff to look for, and move on to the third option. At some point, the talent inspection can happen and it figures out that kings is available and then everything works as expected.

With regards to pally power, that was suggested before and I considered that option. But ultimately I don't want to surrender BuffEnough's logic to someone else's configuration. It's happened more than once for me in a raid where the paladins misconfigured PallyPower's assignments, and I ended up getting a different blessing than one I needed and BuffEnough alerted me to that issue.

To answer the original question, Phanx is right. Acheron has to examine every COMBATLOG_EVENT_UNFILTERED, but it filters out only those events that involve data relevant to what Acheron displays. Hopefully that renders it relatively light weight.

FWIW, I run both Acheron and Recount without any performance issues.

Paladin buffs are a little tricky because two of them - kings and sanctuary - are talented. And there is a delay period that happens (due to the Blizzard api, not the addon) while BuffEnough tries to inspect the talents of the paladins in your party/raid and figure out if you should have those or not. So it may pick the wrong blessings or insist that you need one you already have until it can figure out what's what.

I'll see if I can improve that a little bit, but I don't think there's much I can do.
