Would it help if there're options to isolate parts of its code from operating? e.g. the simple option of restricting it to only counting Damage Done, or even only Damage Done without tracking any individual spells (like those lightweight addons claim to do).

Also, you shouldn't trust these addons 100%. Recount needs to call an huge amout of functions during a fight (x functions for each combat log line) and these addons tend to show more CPU usage than there really is for many function calls.
I do not trust the API of Blizzard to be honest either, besides, it's not accomodating to regular addons either. However, since that oddon does not show much load from other addons I'm willing to trust there is at least *some* related load from recount.
I did see a noticeable increase in FPS with it off.
This is in Ultraxion which is notorious to give FPS drops on 25man, at least in LFR (10man guild).
At first I thought it was the projected textures overlapping at the spot peoplle stack but after this I suspected to be a very spammy log.
Jan 7, 2012I had to remove recount since I noticed via Broker CPU addon it reached up to 10% CPU Usage during LFR fights (test runs). This was on a 8 x virtual,4 x core relatively new processor. Is it possible to reduce its CPU usage?Posted in: General AddOns
I still suspect the API of Blizzard bugs occasionally (e.g. it was giving CPU usage on RaidBufStatus addon occasionally which is supposed to be turned off in fights) so it might not be the responsibility of some addons.

This is precisely because a lot of the uncertainty of any DPS formula is in the time quotient and minor variation in a small quotient will create large differences in number. But that is also true for any speed measurement. It takes time to establish any robust over time measures. It's simply not very meaningful to use DPS as a measure for short, at worst instantaneous attacks.

However, it is consistent in giving a certain number in certain situations so I wonder if it can be improved so that consistency gives another more reasonable number. For example, I kill the same kind of mob multiple times in about 1.5 seconds and it almost always gives about 20k~ DPS MAX. However, the mob is 70k. It comes to reason that 70k/1.5 it would be at least about 40k DPS.
Now it could include (that HP) information on the target, however I do not know if it would contaminate the process. It would however have a potential to give more accurate result.
Dec 12, 2011Recount is currently incorrect when measuring very short fights. :) And I'm referring to almost instant kills of mobs. It appears it needs at least 1.5 to 3 seconds to give a reasonable result. If something dies in ~1sec it gives a very low number.Posted in: General AddOns
