Quite often when I log in, I don't have any FuXP text on FuBar. The xp/rep bar is there, but I have to right-click FuBar and unselect and reselect FuXP to get the text to appear.

This happens to me too. The icon and the rep bar for the current active faction are always shown correctly, but sometimes no text appears beside the icon.

EDIT: Corrected a wrong word. Poor, poor English of mine. :D

No, you can use it as it is. But remember to also have Cartographer_Icons installed, or it won't work.

    Thanks. :)

By the way, I noticed the name I put for the addon is wrong. It should be Cartographer_Icons_TownGuardPack, not TowerGuardPack. This is what I get by doing these things when sleepy. Next update I'll correct the name. :D

I think it would be a good idea to change it's TOC description to say it's alpha and will crash the game. Otherwise many people will do as we, end up installing it, and then wonder what's going on.

Hi all! I've assembled a new icon pack for Cartographer using the Town Guard icons by Ryan Hamshire. It's working, but as of yet not perfectly, since some modifications to Cartographer and/or to some of its plugins will be needed for all the icons to appear where they should. In any case, try it, it won't break anything.

By the way, please note I'm no LUA programmer. I just took the Gatherer and MetaMap icon packs, messed around with them a little, coupled that with some hints kindly provided by Kodewulf in Cartographer's official thread, and ended up with something functional. So, if you know of any way to improve this, feel free to suggest it!

Updates will appear as new attachments to this message for now. Once the support for all icons is implemented I'll upload it to the SVN (or ask someone to do it).

    Current version: 0.3 Beta (June 17th, 2007)

The lines you are looking for are around the 400 mark: (. . .) Just change these. The funny "k" and "v" things are just iterating through this list and calls the RegisterIcon function for each entry.

Oh, now I get it! Hehe, I should stop being lazy and start learning LUA. :) Anyway, with these directions I managed to assemble a very hackish "Cartographer_Icons_TowerGuardPack". It's attacked to this message. I hope people can test it and provide suggestions.

By the way, some questions. Looking at the POI plugin, I couldn't find a distinction between different POIs. Everything is just a POI with a single icon, not a Bank, an Inn etc. What would be the best way, then, to register an icon only for banks, another only for Inns, another only for AHs etc.?

The same goes for trainers. I noticed the Trainers plugin has two icons, one for trainers (covering both class and profession) and another for mages. Is there a way to have two icons, one for any class trainers, and another for any profession trainer? Or I should set the class trainer ones the way it's done there: a "mage trainer" entry, a "priest trainer" entry etc.?

And a last question: although I set the Repair icon for the "armorer" type, many vendors in the built-in dataset with repair abilities (bowiers etc.) still show the green coin icon, not the repair one. Is there some way to solve this, or the solution is to add a different entry for each type of vendor with repair abilities?

Anyway, here's the relevant code so far:

-- Places (Auction House, Bank, Flight Master, Inn, Mail Boxes, Other POIs):
    -- Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack','',iconPath.."Auction") -- ToDo
    -- Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack','',iconPath.."Bank") -- ToDo
    -- Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack','',iconPath.."Flight") -- ToDo
    -- Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack','',iconPath.."Inn") -- ToDo
    -- Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack','mailbox',iconPath.."Mail") -- Disabled
    Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack','POI',iconPath.."Default")

    -- Trainers (Classes and Professions/Others):
    Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack',"Mage Trainer",iconPath.."ClassTrainer")
    Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack','Trainer',iconPath.."ProfessionTrainer")
    Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack','Trainers',iconPath.."ProfessionTrainer")

-- Special Vendors (Repair and Weapons/Armors):
    Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack','Armorer',iconPath.."Repair")
    Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack','Armor',iconPath.."Weapon")
    Cartographer_Icons:RegisterOverride('towerguard_iconpack','Weapons',iconPath.."Weapon")

EDIT: There was a typo in the file. There's an updated version attached.

EDIT.2: There was another typo in the lua. Anyway, I'm removing the file from here and starting a new topic for it.

It appeared out of nowhere directly here: http://files.wowace.com/Cartographer_HeatMap/. Since the description isn't very informative I tried it to discover what it does, but on my WoW the only effect are systematic crashes. :)

I was thinking about installling "Town Guard" just because of its neater icons, but remained with "Cartographer" because of the additional features.

After looking at the simple code in the icon packs already available for download, it seemed easy enough: just look at the "registericon" (or something like that) in other packs, write down the internal icon name, and put a line in your customized icon pack for Cartographer to use your alternative icon instead of the default. So, there I went attempting to create my very own "Cartographer_Icons_TownGuardPack", and the first thing I did was to open the LUA for the Vendors plugin. After many page ups and page downs I find the place where icons are registered and... OMGWTF?!?! No easily recognizable names! Just some reference to 'k' and 'v' inside a cryptic "for k,v in something(something) blah-blah-blah-he-he-he-I'm-mysterious!!!". And this is the sad tale of how my very own "Cartographer_Icons_TownGuardPack" died before even being born. :D

So, if some good soul reading me understands what a "for k,v" means, please rez, buff and adopt this icon pack. It's worth it! :)

I've just tried the new Cartographer_HeatMap addon, and noticed that it cause my WoW client to crash. Sometimes it just locks and I have to force kill it. Other times it quits by itself and causes the WoW Error Reporting tool to appear. So, for the time being I'm disabling it.

Funny thing though is: I still have no idea what it does. :D

Not sure if this is the correct thread to place this. Anyway, I was reading the Logs\FrameXML.log file today and I've found in there some entries regarding ItemSync. These don't seem to be related to any actual problem, as the addon is working perfectly for me. But maybe they're showing ways in which the code might be improved. A question: Does Cartographer have something similar to MetaMap's notes list? If not, this is a feature that should be implemented. In MetaMap it works this way: there a button on the map's top bar that, when clicked, shows a transparent overlay on the right side of the map. Inside this overlay there's a list of all important notes in the current map (usually those made by the player himself and boss notes) in alphabetical order, and you can interact with these as you do with the actual notes themselves: edit, delete, set as a waypoint etc. A very useful feature in all those maps crowded with notes.

And another suggestion: A related feature I would absolutely love to see, but no map addon that I know of ever had it, would be a "zoom" option. You know the problem: you go into one of those many non-capital cities in the map, there're 20 notes stacked one over the other, and the minimap is of little help. A zoom option (automatic, or with a zoom in and a zoom out key bindings) on the map itself would be a cool way to solve this. Enter a small city, press it, the rectangle around your current position gets "stretched" to fill the whole map area, and all the icons (which don't get stretched, only repositioned) are now nicely separated, as when you're inside a capital city, except much blurred since the map hasn't much in terms of resolution.

Would something like this even be possible?

Vendors and Trainers has the ability to use different icons for each group of npcs. I'm just not very artistic (I suck at graphics), so I just used one for everything. Feel free to send me what you want to use and I'll gladly include it. :)

Hi! I asked Ryan Hamshire (Town Guard's author) whether he would allow Cartographer to include its icon pack. His answer: "Of course they can use my icons if they just ask and give credit". See the complete two message thread (!) here. :P So, I'm attaching his icon pack to this message. It includes different icons for:

    Inns
    Banks
    Auction Houses
    Mail Boxes
    Class Trainers
    Profession Trainers
    Flight Masters
    Weapon Vendors
    Vendors with the "Repair" ability
Default (for other points of interest)

From these, I wouldn't adopt only the "Mail", "Flight" and "Default" ones, for those already available in Cartographer for these functions are nicer. :) But the other seven icons would be very nice additions! So, please consider implementing them.

By the way: if Cartographer doesn't have a built-in discriminating ability between the 3 vendor types and 2 trainer types this icon pack supports, now would be an awesome time to implement it. ;)

or what i do -- it's simalar but works too :D

-Use Fubar_ToFu for timers and Map points, and Quartz for the bar timer :D

The problem is that, well, the nice information panel and tooltip full of details aren't available with this smaller setup, nor the lines connections flight points over the world map, nor the filled continent flight map at the flight master, or the version of it away from the flight master. Or at least, that was the case last time I checked.

So far, FlightMap is still the best addon for this. It lacks FuBar, Quartz and Cartographer integration, unfortunately, but everything else is perfection. :)

I never said it showed them on the minimap. I said I'd like to see icons there no matter whether FlightMap does it or some, as yet undeveloped, Cartographer plugin. I posted over at wowinterface.com but I've yet to see a response to this issue, or the request.

If you install an Ace2 flight addon, such as FuBar_ToFu, you'll be able to see these flight master icons in the minimap. I myself use both ToFu (for the FuBar display of time left) and FlightMap (for the nice map and flight map features). But I agree it would be nice if Cartographer supported FlightMap directly.
