Well, you could also "branch" by creating a new addon and calling it "LilSkillet" or something like that. Then it'd appear in the files.wowace.com list and become downloadable by poor little me. ;)

    Thanks for any possitive input.

Actually, YOU can be the positive input! :D

The data comes from www.wowhead.com. And Wowhead's data, in turn, comes from players running its data gathering addon and now and then uploading it to the site. So, if you're finding lots of nodes where the current data shows none, install it, go to those nodes, and upload the resulting savedvariables. At some point, once other players confirm your findings, these nodes will appear in Cartographer_Data.

A small request: would it be possible to add to the crafting module an option to detect the special craftings for the daily cooking quests? Right now, the crafting bar appears, but its background color isn't black, it's the same as the filling color. The crafting itself is still detectable due to the thin vertical white "glow" moving from left to right. Not quite the same feel, though...

Thank You, I did find that it it worked great! I am getting some error message now when I log in, something related to chat. It pops up occasionally so I can't figure out what is casusing the error.

Install "BugSack" and "!BugGrabber". They work with each other to make it easy to discover where errors are coming from.

Wow, thank you SO much for all that information. Could you provide a link to the proper Cartographer addon? I got the pack from curse gaming, but maybe that's not the proper addon.

You can find the most recent versions of all Cartographer addons here. Just click "C" in the top bar, then search and download the Cartographer-rXXXX.zip one itself as well as all the Cartographer_something-rXXXXX.zip modules you want. You'll need at least these: Mining, Herbalism and Data.

Thanks again. You have been very helpful :)

    You're welcome. :)

Just wonding what Cartographer_Date actually is.

This addon. It's the new version of the database. Simply enable it in your WAU or redownload it now and then by hand and you're set: a new download with updated nodes every few days.

I haven't used Cartographer in a while and I have been having problems getting the Cartographer_Mining.lua and Cartographer_Herbalism.lua working properly?

They're working fine here. Try downloading new versions of all Cartographer addons, since they've been hugely updated in the last weeks. If you still have problems, delete all Cartographer_something.lua files in your SavedVariables folder. Also, be sure the modules you're trying to use are enabled in the AddOns button (before you load a character) as well as inside Cartographer's configuration panel.

Is there a new thread anywhere with updated databases?

Nope. Just use the addon that replaced them.

Also, does Cartographer still show the mini map node icons, where one should be? None of that is working for me.

Yep, working fine here too. The catch is: they only appear once you move your character at least a step. Right after you log in they don't, but after you move, they're all there.

Provided the use of the minimap is enabled, what (I think) can be disabled in Cartographer's options. Check that too, only to be sure! :)

Is this normal behavior? I tried Skillet first and thought it was a bug.. but I get the same thing using ATSW.

Yes, it is normal behavior. In a previous patch (months ago) Blizzard removed the ability from addons to auto-click the craft button. So, the only thing they can do nowadays is to select a recipe and wait until the player actually click the button, then select another recipe and wait, then select another recipe and wait, and so on and so forth.

Also, does anyone know what happened to goldthorn tea?

I've read some unofficial notes for the new PTR some minutes ago. It seems it was deleted by mistake, and is going to be added back in 2.3.2. The way to obtain it will remain the same.

By the way, an ARL's Skillet button feature request: could you make it so that pressing the button not only opens, but also closes ARL? It would make a quick check of missing recipes both easier and faster.

    Thanks!

This will have to be done by Ackis, I don't have any control over the behaviour of the button.

Ah, I see! Thanks for the information. I'll search ARL's thread and ask there.

I'm not really keen to have Skillet track inventory itself as there are just so many mods out there that do much better job at it and I don't want to make Skillet more complex than it has to be.

That's reasonable, yes. In any case, you might have that in a "wish list" for when Skillet is feature complete and stable, rather than in its "to do" list, i.e., something to look into when bored (if at all), not amounting to as much as a requirement.

And thank you for looking into adding CharacterProfiler etc. support! It's really amazing how Skillet can use all these different storage methods. And one less addon storing (again) inventory, bank etc. information, all the while being able to access this information stored by another, is always a beautiful sight.

posted a message on List of Rock replacements of Ace2 libraries?
I think something like a "X-Provides:" line in the TOC would be a nice solution. I mean, something like the way Debian packages work, in that if a package needs another it can either specify a specific implementation ("firefox"), or a generic one ("webbrowser").

If we consider that an Ace/Rock/etc-based library isn't just a set of functions, but also the specification for a set of functions, nothing prevents multiple alternative implementations. You'd have the original specification, which would just happen to also be its own very first implementation ("the code as its own documentation"), but also any number of alternative implementations.

This way, LibParser-4.0 would be able to explicitly tell WAU that it provides the ParserLib and Parser-3.0 "protocols", and from this have a "Give preference to libraries that provide multiple protocols" option, which would delete (and keep deleted) single implementations. Something like that.

With growing dispersion, i.e. new frameworks, new and old mods mixed together this problem will continue to grow. I got all three parserlibs and apparently different mods are using them so I cant remove any.

Actually, you can remove ParserLib and Parser-3.0, keep only LibParser-4.0, and still have everything working. That's the whole point I'm making: to know all cases (besides the Parsers one) where we can delete apparently needed libraries all the while not breaking anything in the process.

I'd like to say that I'm loving this addon! It's pure awesomeness! I'd also like to make three requests:

    • It would be nice to be able to both open and close AckisRecipeList when clicking the Scan button. It would be awesome for a quick despair check right after you learned 5 recipes in a row. ;)
    • Adding support for RPG Outfitter's CharacterProfiler (preferred) and/or MyBags's MyBagsCache as bank/inventory storage method(s).
    • Embedding OneBag's OneStorage library as a fall back storage method when no 3rd-party one is available, so that Skillet would become self sufficient in this department.

    Thank you very much!

Thanks for the explanation. I already knew that, but it's a good reminder anyway!

However, while agree on principle that I don't need to worry about these things, the matter of fact is that I do. I'm what you might call a "power user": not interested enough to dwell into programming, but also not uninterested enough to not care what files are in my system. In other words, I'm the kind of guy who, in the old good times of DOS, used to fine-tune EMM386.EXE to free 210 additional bytes of conventional memory. Who in Windows loves to optimize performance by changing registry entries by hand (without a backup, of course). Who in Linux goes around deleting unused locales (something I also do with WoW addons), disabling services, compiling custom kernels etc. so that 2 MB or RAM are freed up and the booting get shortened by 2.5 seconds. Who, when experiencing difficulties with a SMTP server, opens a telnet session and see what I can get by issuing SMTP commands by hand. And so on and so forth. In other words: what I'm asking for is something akin to an "Advanced Ace/Rock/Dongle User's Guide: Libraries and dependencies for the power user" HOWTO. Why? Just because it's fun! :D

Now, if you come and tell me LibParser-4.0 is the only library with this built-in backward compatibility code, I'll stop looking. But I hope it isn't. Over-optimizing to the point of near breakage is too cool a hobby for one to just give up on it. ;)

So, Parser-3.0 and ParserLib aren't Ace-based libraries? That's why LibParser-4.0 can provide their functionality to the addons that require them but aren't themselves aware of LibParser-4.0?

    Hi!

Browsing the forums I've found the information that LibParser-4.0 replaces the functionality of both Parser-3.0 and ParserLib, so that I could delete these two and still have everything working as expected. I tried it and was amazed that it actually worked!

So, my question is: which other LibStub and/or Rock-derived libraries are direct drop-in replacements of Ace2 ones? In other words, could someone please be so kind as to provide a list of which Ace2 libraries I can delete so as to speed up even more my loading times?

    Thanks!
