posted a message on Developing without a WoW subscription?
So, I'm not subscribed to WoW anymore due to RL and work, but I still manage 2 addons on my spare time. In the past I've mostly been testing out minor code changes to my addons by manually sending it to a MSN friend, or committing them as alphas and PMing people to test it out... but that process is obviously quite slow and error-prone.

Hence, does anyone know if it's possible to develop addons *without* subscribing to WoW...? (P.S: And I really don't want to beg for a sponsor... I just really don't want to subscribe, for now. :P)

P.P.S - I'm guessing private servers would work, but are their APIs usually updated well enough that you could develop on it? And psst, if so.. would someone with just the right amount of knowledge point me roughly in the right direction? ;)

Haven't been able to try it out yet, but has vellum support been completed yet? In the last released/beta version it was commented out and worked fine otherwise, but seemed to be pretty CPU-heavy when enabled as I guess the data wasn't being cached at that time.

My copy of saved vars, hopefully got most of the pools in the frozen seas, as well as important schools for raid buff food:

Note that it's *not* QuestFrame that you want to use, but QuestLogFrame. This is what I used for beql, copied from Mapster:

    ## LoadManagers: AddonLoader
    ## X-LoadOn-Hooks: ToggleFrame
    ## X-LoadOn-ToggleFrame: if ... == QuestLogFrame and not IsAddOnLoaded("beql") then AddonLoader:LoadAddOn("beql") end

On the other hand, is it finally official that 3rd party clients that alternative OS users (mainly Linux) like WoW UI Updater will no longer be tolerated? I'm pretty sure most of us would switch to the Curse Client if the thing would run in Wine...

Have been using Pulseaudio for a while now with both WoW, vent and other audio apps working fine simultaneously, note that it might already be installed by default for you if you get Ubuntu 9.04 (was it in 8.10? I couldn't remember) If it is, use winecfg to set your soundsystem to ALSA. Pulse's stability itself is another thing though... /rant

posted a message on GridStatusRaidDebuff equivalent?
I agree, but as a heal leader it's usually of utmost importance that I do know what was afflicting raid members, or what caused our last wipe. :P The only auras I had to manually remove from GSRDebuffs was the 4HM stacks and some other useless debuffs that don't really endanger lives.

Anyway, I didn't actually hope to see a one-in-all addon that plugs into multiple raid frames like you describe, but was just wondering if there's a list of individual addons that plug into their parent addons with the same functionality, e.g:

    Grid - GridStatusRaidDebuffs
    Grid2 - Grid2StatusRaidDebuffs etc. :P

posted a message on GridStatusRaidDebuff equivalent?
Are there any addons that, like GridStatusRaidDebuff, are specifically designed to notify parent unit frames about *important* raid debuffs? Looking around, most major frames seem to require these debuffs to be entered manually.

posted a message on Skillet - the lilsparky branch
Another needed change is in skillet.lua around line 1286, from
    local _,_,tradeString = string.find(link, "(trade:%d+:%d+:%d+:[0-9a-fA-F]+:[<-{]+)")
    to
    local _,_,tradeString = string.find(link, "(trade:%d+:%d+:%d+:[0-9a-fA-F]+:[<-{/]+)")
Not sure if the curly braces are still needed or not. :P

Also, some 'All data' links like Inscription and leatherworking are still broken. I've drilled down the problem to Skillet using an incorrect number of '/'s in the link (thank god for GYP saved variables. :D), still reading through the code...

Edit: Ah. so it's the TradeSkillRecipeList table in SkilletData.lua that's causing the recipe counts to be broken... is there any easy way to quickly update this table without digging through 3.0.x patch notes to copy the newly added recipe links?

Going to suggesting a quick fix. :P The website http://wuu.vagabonds.info seems to be down occasionally, and when that happens WUU hangs on "checkWebsite: http://wuu.vagabonds.info/version.txt" since the webserver doesn't respond at all, yet for some reason the socket timeout is never defined in this function. Might also solve the problem antispimmer is having.

Feature request: How about a 'lock version' feature for temporarily preventing addons from downloading new versions? It's pretty common in Linux software packaging, e.g. apt. Currently my fubar2broker + fortress is experiencing some bugs in the latest beta version, but I've identified a version which works fine. Right now what I have to do everytime i update is restoring Fortress from its backup, but it gets annoying pretty fast. So for example, there could be a checkbox in the 'Addon' menu -> 'Lock version', then while doing a one button update WUU oidentifies a new version for Fortress, but skips updating it anyway.

They made some changes to the download URL, so pretty much just need to correct them in WUU. :P In site_re.txt there's a line with "auct_version2" change "?dl=Packages/" to "?dl=Packages3/". There's also an occurence in Wurm.py, just change to Packages3 as well. Oh, and since Auctioneer Advanced Suite is discontinued for "Auctioneer Suite", change the site ID to "AuctioneerSuite".

    posted a message on IceHUD
Any chance of adding support for character profiles? I've found that when playing my holy priest main I don't really need to see health bars on the HUD as I'll usually be paying more attention to the entire raid's health, although being able to see my own mana bar is still useful. Switching back to my rogue alt however i would prefer to turn on all the HUD features, since i'm usually only concentrating on the centre of my screen. In the end I've just opted to disable IceHUD completely unless playing on my rogue to avoid clutter, but I do miss some of its features.
