Maybe try the autoadjust feature on your monitor? On mine at the house it's one of the buttons, but at work I have to go into the menu to do it.

Scaling doesn't really apply here, because if you scaled mine down to the size of Luzienne's, they'd be useless because you wouldn't be able to read them.

I disagree. Scaling applies perfectly well here, healers that need to be able to click stuff can scale it up to your size if they want and be fine, while the rest of us can keep it nice and small. The only reason yours wouldn't fit smaller is because you used the full number of deficit; going with something like 2.3 for a 2300 deficit means you can easily make it readable at Luzienne's size.

It's more than the deficit. The H/C/D indicators would become unusable and, if you reduced the distance between frames, the glow would become useless as well. What I meant was that some type of theme or layout module might be best because you could use one that had the colored corner indicators and the two digit health indicator if you wanted or you could use one that had the letters for status and the full health indicator if you found that suited you better. Then you could scale them to whatever size you wanted.

Hrm. I think I like the look of Luzienne's mockup better, but I still like the slightly larger buttons better for use.

Again, I'm coming from a healers point of view, but imagine you're in a fast-paced fight with Luzinne's mockup. I think I'd miss and heal the wrong target pretty often. Also, the borders there are just too small to be useful. I like the colored corners, but not at the same time as colored borders, the colors just run together.

I'm still liking the idea of actionbar sized frames better, just because they seem to me to deliver the info I need more efficiently.

What about making different "themes" or something so that you could have Luzienne's frames if you were more comfortable using them, or something like mine if your prefer them a bit larger?

Scaling doesn't really apply here, because if you scaled mine down to the size of Luzienne's, they'd be useless because you wouldn't be able to read them.

As for showing health deficit: if you'd read my updated post#1, you'd be able to see that it would be possible to show the deficit (maybe just the k, aka -700dmg will not be shown, -1100 will be shown as -1, -3800 as -4). Also keep in mind that preemtive healing requires much more than just the health deficit - you need to know if a unit has aggro, if he's currently being healed by someone else,...

I did read the update before I posted. I didn't see anything about health deficit then and I still don't now, unless you're talking about repurposing the part where it says possibly adding the first two characters of the unit's name. As for aggro and incoming healing, that's where the colored borders or other indicators would come in, as indicated in my post above.

I'm not sure that "2K" to display a health deficit bewteen 1500 and 1900 would be enough, especially if the unit is currently taking damage. Maybe drop the K and show "1.5" for 1500. Then you could show amounts less than 1K too, just use a decimal. In that case, unit with a 700hp deficit would show ".7".

I'm all for making the frames as small as possible, if a good way to present the info can be figured out. The less I have to move my mouse, the happier healer I'll be. I'm thinking Grid + clickcasting = sex.

    <edit>
I added health deficit numbers like this to Luzienne's grapic. I really like the look of this :).

I would presume the whole frame would be scalable, so size is not necessarily an issue. However, I think the idea is to make it as compact as possible, so you don't need to move the mouse as much.

I completely understand the desire to make it as compact as possible, I just think we may be sacrificing a bit too much in the name of compactness. Keep in mind that automatic spell scaling will not be possible in BC. If we make the grid so small that we can't tell how much health a unit is missing, we'll have to rely on some other display to know which heal to cast. If you're looking at something else anyway to get the info you need, why use this?

I think Grid is a fantastic idea and I'd want to use it even without the BC changes, as long as it was useful for healing, since that's what I'd be using it for.

What if you made it a little bit bigger, say make each box actionbar button sized? I'm concerned that the tiny boxes might be sacrificing a bit too much clarity for reduced screen real estate. The smaller you make the boxes, the less meaningful they become. Say you have two units with 5000 HP. If one of them is missing 1000 HP and the other is missing 1700 HP, are you really going to be able to tell the difference if their health bars are that small?

Plus, with slighly larger boxes you increase the amount of info you can display before they become too cluttered to use.

I put together a rough layout to show you what I'm thinking:

    Red border = aggro
    Green border = incoming heal
Red glow = health below a set threshold
    D/C/H = Debuff/Curse/HOT
Grey = Out of range, Offline, Dead
