today's version of PB4 isn't working - none of my frames display. When i type /pitbull I get the following error:
Interface/Addons/Pitbull4/ModuleHandling/Module.lua.250: attempt to index field 'db' (a nil value)
UPATED INFO: looks like a newer version was uploaded while I made this original post. testing now...
UPDATED INFO x2: the quick update today to vers 420090621030528 is working. thanks for the fast action, guys.

Jun 18, 2009Posted in: General ChatQuote from TristanianNo surprise tbh. Once again, they took the best/most wanted features of already existing addons and incorporated them into the default UI.
historically, they have done a pretty lousy job at every attempt, so Im going to wait and see and assume I'll still be running Carbonite long after 3.2 is released.

It was always our intention to not make DogTagTexts the default text provider anymore. The vast majority of users (who don't post here) simply load the addon up, play with the texts in the drop down boxes and never go any further than that.
DogTagTexts will continue to be supported and I'm going to make an attempt to bring the performance up. However, due to the design of DogTag I doubt it will ever reach the level of LuaTexts with well designed codes.
thanks and fyi: Pitbull4 is fantastic. I love the ability to pull up say the texts page and the switch between several frames to compare their text settings. I had to keep a post-it and a pencil handy to do that with PB3.
FWIW: I have encountered SEVERE performance hits when using Pitbull3 AND cowtip at the same time, but disabling either one and reloading the UI made the performance problems dissapear. I opted to bail on Cowtip and since then, haven't noticed anything more than a loss of 3 or 4 FPS during a fx intensive boss fight.
Maybe someone would be inclined to draft some guides that say "if you did THIS in DogTags, it would look like THAT in luatexts" so those of us who dont know how to draft code can at least gain a functional understanding of how Lua works? I've read a few guides online, and all of them assume that the reader has some level of experience writing code.
The only language I ever learned was Basic, and I dabbled in Fortran. :(
Jun 18, 2009Posted in: General ChatQuote from KerechaClearfont can take its fonts from SharedMedia and that has very easy instructions how to add new fonts/texttures.
yep, tried that too - cue sad horns: waap waap waaaaaaaap
I've managed to just rename and replace sharedmedia fonts with ones I found on my own, which is a hit or miss - some fonts work, others just like like an old 80s pocket calculator font.
The Ultima III font rocks, tho.

As for "nothing much changing" that's not true, panel quality has gone down to produce cheaper monitors and to market to the uninformed gamers willing to overpay for cheapass 2ms TN panels that have the worst image quality of any TFT panel type.
QFT - I've yet to find any newer widescreen LCD that comes anywhere close to the brightness and vibrancy of colors on my old Sony LCD.
Jun 18, 2009Posted in: General ChatQuote from Avanina1x multisampling,
already set to that. So maybe my monitor is just weaksauce. Its about 6 years old but was bleeding edge at the time.
if you know the keybindings, could you perhaps hide the numbers? This may add to a neater appearance.
I wish Macaroon let me scale the size of those. Requested it as a feature during beta, but it never made it in. Most of them I know, but I play so many different toons, its not easy to remember them all.
Were you to make the bottom pannel higher, you could obviously increase the chat box's side, however you may be blocking out too much screen. Trying different fonts may help with number of lines, but it'd be a matter of finding a font that scales well, and having it set to a possibly smaller size.
Most of the work on this version was making that bottom 'datacenter' as small as it is now. I use and old old version of Clearfont to provide my font options, and despite having tried many many times, I've never been able to figure out how to create my own fontpacks or even do a 'drag, drop, rename' to just outright replace fonts it provides that are just terribad. Daville works really well at 9pt and 10pt but any smaller and it just becomes eyestraining. On the bottom left of the right side display is a guild/raid chatbox about 15 lines tall. Im getting good at checking that if I need to catch up on some missed comments.
Thank you for your comments and suggestions.
Jun 17, 2009ver 2.0 of my very first UI attempt (and its dual screens. yowza).Posted in: General Chat
1. I dressed up the player and target frames. couldn't help myself. Tried to make a minimal 'bars only' frame and it felt like I was playing with an Excel chart.
2. the tiny boxes on the left of the player and the right of the target are:
[focus's target]........[target's target' target]
macaroon (LOVE THIS ADDON, MAUL!!!)
addons NOT shown:
grid (with a bazillion plugins)
bison - running the full width of the screen below the fubar
Scrolling Combat Text - so far, the text all shows up in the center, so that most of the fly-aways are in the dead space between the monitors. Im not good at tweaking SCT, so i dont know if there's a way to 'off center' its 'home pixel' so that the flyaways generate off the back of my toon.
Cowtip the blank area on the bottom left is the 'tooltip zone' and silly me i didn't hover on something for the screenshot.
for a 2.0 vers of a 1st time effort, I cant say Im unhappy, but I sure wish I could eliminate that bottom mess and make crisper frames. I love Pitbull, but is it just me, or is its frames sort of 'soft around the edges' ? Or is it my video settings?
Jun 17, 2009is the lua texts feature an attempt to troubleshoot Pitbull4.0 while removing dogtags as a potential problem source, or is dogtags being abandoned in general?Posted in: Unit Frames
I ask because I find dogtags to have a very low learning curve for non-developers whereas Lua looks like one probably should buy a book or two and read them first.
Jun 17, 2009Got some panels im not using and are so far tweaked its faster to just make new ones - want to delete. I select, click the delete, hear an audible 'ding' sound effect, and panel is still there. no error frame or message that i can see.Posted in: AddOn HELP!
is there a 'dont delete me by accident' setting i need to find and uncheck?
Jun 17, 2009Posted in: Unit FramesQuote from septorKind of wondering how to recreate this myself.
Edit: What I'd most like to know is what font that is.
can someone tell me how to get the borders around the individual bars? I have the borders module enabled, and I have enabled borders under the frame settings, but nothing ever shows up on the bars.
are these separate panels anchored underneath with another panel making addon?
Jun 17, 2009thanks for the comments so far. I'll rehost somewhere after I make some changes tonight.Posted in: General Chat
I think my next agenda is to continue to whittle that bottom area. The big blocker there is the text box and the four macaroon bars. I could probably go down to 2 bars, but the chat might be an issue - I've got the font at the lowest setting (8pt) and if i halve the size of it, I get 4 rows of text. I tried moving it to the right monitor, but I have to stop playing the game to read it. I need the text in a location where my toon is still in my peripheral vision.
any good chat replacement addons that might allow me to reduce it without losing more rows? (see how HUGe the SAY: bar is? cant reduce that without lowering my scale, and if i lower my scale below 1, every font I've tried is blurry).
as for the unit frames, I was inspired by shots of the overly used lyn design, but i just cant go without ANY eye candy, so I added the dolls and shadow elements.
Jun 17, 2009sorry about the oversized image in page 1011. I replaced with a url link. Please look at it if you have time, and offer some critiques. I dont know how to produce a list of all addons, but I added what I thought were key ones on that post.Posted in: General Chat
Jun 16, 2009first UI - never done this before, so I realize it will hardly compare to some of the very excellent stuff.Posted in: General Chat
things to note: I intentionally opened ALL the windows (bags, etc) and normally would not have this all open on a raid.
also please note: the tool tip on the bottom left is whacked. After taking the screenshot, I realized that I was running a mod that mined kills for stats/drops, so tooltips were always random crazy sizes. I use tiptac for raids, which fits that bottom left square perfectly.
I realize I have much more to learn - and this thread has really been a great source of education for me.
I did not use any prebuilt UI mods. I used Pitbull 4.0 and some printed pages from this thread for ideas.
not a comprehensive list of addons (some are obvious to the pros), but here's the main ones:
bagnon (with bagnon_highlight?)
pminimap (already put chinchilla back in. pminimap lost my calendar button)
cowtip (with embeds from mobinfo (shown), auctioneer, and carbonite (both not shown)
fubar (two bars, undocked and manually set abreast so 1 shows at the top of each monitor)
DBM (not shown, but small bars are on the right monitor and then zoom to the right monitor under the avatar above classtimer)
k-something? (i think? im really new at this. dont remember. but i used it to create the black box behind bagnon and the light grey borders around the unit frames)
