It's a cool idea like you say but it would be horribly complex. I'll keep it in mind though.

So basically, I can either give you money or give the resource sites money....and you basically don't do anything useful, when we can just do what indy said.

Hard choice....let me think about that for a minute........

Nice and hostile, just how I like it. Well sure, you can either check each site individually or use this instead. I'm not doing this for money, it was suggested to me and I thought I'd go ahead and do it, so since it's there I might as well make people aware of that fact that it's there to use. And you are clicking through to the resource site, hence giving them money. In fact, you even get to choose which site you want to 'give' the money to, as a bonus.

When I search for "Buffalo", the first hit reads "Buffalo1 not working properly". Grrrreat. ;-)

Hmm, I think that's cause the author hasn't uploaded it to any of the mod sites, and the site is currently not set to search within files.wowace.com because they're apparatly not release quality mods.

Indy you numbskull how is he to get ad revenue if you use your Firefox toolbar?

Domain = $10, hosting = $90/yr, once I've made that back the ads can disappear. Please feel free to use an ad blocker though (not that you need my permission for that).

It's just convenience, really. Sure, you can find mods by typing them into Google but this makes it a little easier - especially for mods with very common words as their name, such as Atlas.

    Hi all,

I just set up this site called WoW Mod Search (original, I know) which uses Google's custom search engine thing. It basically allows you to search for mods across the 4 major mod sites (WoWAce, Curse, WoW Interface and WoWUI) at the same time, and it works really well. And of course, it's super duper fast.

And I've just added search plugins for Firefox and IE7, so you can use it from within your browser.

Give it a go and let me know what you think: http://wowmodsearch.com

Isn't it funny how you don't care about Curse doing exactly the same thing?

We've disabled comments and bug reports and each page links directly to your own mod page. It's not like they're even properly on the site, it's now just a basic link and download button. You don't have to do anything. You don't have to check the site for comments and such. So just what exactly is your problem?

If I saw any valid reason to fully disable this, I would do it immediately, but all I can see currently is a bunch of people saying "because we say so" which is pretty childish.

We've turned this off now. To be honest, we have very few options when it comes to dealing with Ace mods on the site, as hardly any authors upload theirs to it, so we saw this as our only option to get the Ace mods on there.

There's barely any performance impact on the Ace servers. Here's how it works:

We read the RSS file from files.wowace.com (which is a static file), and then download each updated zip file to our server. We keep mirrors of the zip files so we don't leech your bandwidth, and the sync is limited to once per day for the same reason. It should help with WoW patches and other events where the addons sites become heavily loaded, because our site can stay fairly stable throughout patch days due to the recent server upgrades. So in that way, it may actually help you guys out. We also made sure that the authors don't have to worry about keeping their mods up to date on our site, because all the mods are updated automatically as well.

We figured asking permission to use an RSS file that's already publically available wasn't really necessary, just the same as you don't have to ask permission to read an RSS file from a news site like bbc.co.uk.

As for the keylogger suggestions - there have never been any malware apps bundled with any of our free tools, I absolutely guarentee it. It may have been a rogue ad from the external agency, but definitely nothing we've ever put into the client. The minute that sort of thing is reported to us, we get rid of it immediately and report it to the ad agency. I believe Rush has changed the ads over now anyway, so it won't be happening again.
