Nov 23, 2006Hello Saroz ;)Posted in: Unit Frames
I would kindly like to ask, if you plan to implement the feature I asked for on page 27 (the thing qith allowing independend groupframes where you can setup each frame to display a group or a class and which allows to display up to 16 groupframes) aywhere near soon, or if it currently is not on your priority list or even considered. Maybe it is simply too much work or too complicated to implement. Something for your todo list for Burning Crusade? Or there is a quick and dirty workaround which provides a similar functionality?
I love sraidframes as it is clear and functional and not overloaded. This feature would make it perfect for me, allowing me to get rid of the other raidframes i currently have to use in addition.
*shrugs* just wanted to ask ;) Please do not feel rushed.

Oct 22, 2006Well ;) Thanks for answering. Take all the time you need :) But that feature would allow me (and I think other users too) do get rid of any other raidframes currently installed (pulling out the classes via the standard blizzard frames keeps annoying me, because I have to do this everytime I enter a raid and they do not offer the functionality, sraidframes offers).Posted in: Unit Frames
I took a quick look into your code and I noticed you are already offering an optin called "Show Group/Class". This is exactly what I would need, but right now, this function applies only after you have made your decision to either show the groups or the classes.
Thinking of a quick and dirty workaround ... hmm ... you are currently creating 8 groupframes which you then fill with either the players sorted by group, or by class. How about creating 16 groupframes of which the first 8 show the players sorted by group and the last 8 show the same players filtered by class?. Then you would be able to use the "Show Group/Class" function to toggle which of the 16 groupframes you want to display. This may allow you to offer the functionality and not having to do a full rewrite of a dynamic group system. The problem is, that I do not know how this workaround would affect system performance, although having two raidframe addons running also does not seem to be a very good choise, either.
I really would offer my help but I have no experience in lua and wow api although I am able to program. Having to work myself into your code and to understand how you built your addon, might take to much time and a complex addon like sraidframes does not seem a good starting point to learn lua.
Well ... just trying to give you input and to help somehow.

Maybe the workload can be limited by using already existing features, sraidframes has to offer.
Instead of offering a radio button, where you can select between Group or Class display, maybe you can offer two sets of checkboxes. In the first set, you can activate the group numbers which you want to show, so you can check group 1, 2 and 5 if you want these groups to be displayed. And then there is the other set, where you can check the classes like paladin, warrior, etc. so you can display the class groups.
So if I check Group 1, 2, 6 and the warriors + priests I actually will have five frames displayed. The first three frames will show me the groups 1, 2 and 6 and the next two frames will show the warriors and the priests. So when you check all groups and all classes you can have 16 frames displayed. 8 frames will show the different groups and the other 8 frames will show the classes.
This would be an outstanding feature and I am really looking forward to see this idea implemented, someday.

Oct 21, 2006Hello Saroz,Posted in: Unit Frames
great addon so far, I really like sraidframes and use it extensively, but there is one thing which prevents me getting rid of my other raidframes.
Currently I am displaying all my groups sorted by group number which I have placed on the right side of my UI. As a healer, I also need to display additional groups sorted by class so I can have an extra eye on the warriors, the priests, the druids and paladins. Unfortunately I have not found an option for sraidframes allowing me to have more then 8 groups showing up. What I would need is an option, allowing me to display 12 groups, of which 8 show me the groups sorted by group number and the other 4 groups showing me the warriors, priests, druids and paladins. Allowing sraidprames to display groups sorted by group number AND groups sorted by class simultaneously would allow me to get rid of any other raidframes and would add more flexibility to sraidframes.
Hehe ... btw, .. if I have just shown that I am a total noob, not having seen this option which might already be implemented, then I kindly would like to ask if someone could tell me what I have to do in order to get working, what I have described above.
