Having looked around, I think what i'll do is switch to using Combat Log events - http://www.wowwiki.com/API_COMBAT_LOG_EVENT

This will notify me when a buff is applied or removed, and the name of the buff in each case. And that's all I need to know, pretty much. This way I don't need to track all the player's buffs, removing the need for huge tables constantly recreating, and that will make this a LOT smaller :D

BuffCheck() is usually called for every event :( So, that's probably the reason for the memory gobbling ...

Oh, thank you for the translation update, I haven't even gotten into translating BuffWatcher at all. That's just in there for "eventually". But i'll make sure to do it your way :)

    Hello,

I have an addon that I completely rewrote for Cataclysm, and the rewrite gobbles memory like crazy - in a raid I did a few weeks ago, it was sitting at 10MB of memory usage, constantly triggering garbage collection, making the game unplayable.

The new version can be found here:
    http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info18021-BuffWatcherCataclysmBeta.html

The old version used 1 frame for events and that frame had a fontstring which was updated every event (or so) with the appropriate message, which was just a bunch of smaller messages concatenated together.

The new version uses several frames and fontstrings for each of what would be the smaller messages in the old version. However, I think (at least I tried) to reuse the frames and fontstrings, in that I only create them when needed, and i'll update the old one with the new information instead.

The only other thing that I can think of that would cause memory bloat is that most events cause the addon to make a table that has all the player's current buffs. But would that really cause memory bloat like what I'm seeing in raids? And whether it would or not, the old version used the same strategy, and it doesn't have the same memory problem.

Also also, is there a better way to keep track of the player's buffs other than constantly remaking a table?

Any help would be appreciated :)

I think my addon BuffWatcher could fulfill your PAC needs, but it does more than PAC does, so maybe you don't want it. Also the Cata-version gobbles memory like ... something that gobbles memory ... but that should get fixed soon.
