    posted a message on Cartographer: Quest Objectives -- share your database here!
    The [LEVEL] tag is part of how Overload is storing the quests. He is using it to differentiate the quests. I was planning on writing an importer, but decided against it when I learned that he was adding the functionality in a future release.

    Here is my updated file... It is Horde only and includes merges of the above databases. Anyone else have any updates??

    Edit: Forgot to add the file. There are 451 quests included. If you consider that there are perhaps 2,500 active quests with objectives, this means we only have about 20% of the quests captured.

    Here is what the level spread looks like:
    Level 1-9: 35
    Level 10-19: 34
    Level 20-29: 10
    Level 30-39: 74
    Level 40-49: 63
    Level 50-59: 49
    Level 60-64: 100
    Level 65-69: 61
    Level 70: 25

    For example Clefthoof Mastery in Nagrand where you have to kill 30 Clefthoof Bull's and in the next part your just going to kill one huge Clefhoof elite.

    Unfortunately WoW does not provide any sort of unique ID for quests

    One way to overcome this would be to create a MORE unique ID for quests. Lvl+Quest+Questgiver+Objectives should do it. If a quest had multiple objectives (3 for example), it would be Lvl+Quest+Questgiver+Objective1+Objective2+Objective3.

    Here is a suggestion:
    For weapons, calculate the differences between the average damage. Many classes have damage modifiers to instant attacks (particularly Rogues and Warriors) that are based on weapon damage. It is important to compare average damage rather than DPS. For example, a 1.7 sword w/ 60 DPS has an average damage of 102. A 2.6 sword with 58 DPS has an average damage of 150. That's 50% more damage on your instant attacks from a weapon that appears inferior. If your a rogue using Sinister Strike with Lethality and Aggression, that's a difference of 117 on your criticals and 51 on normal hits.

    Forget Metamap and WoWKB. There is a new dog on the block and he makes all the other dogs look like puppies. Check out this addon:
    http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=4137

    Basically, it provides the same graphic overlay seen on www.thotbot.com for mobs and NPCs--BUT--it's in-game. And, like Thotbot, the info is gathered by people uploading to a database. I'm not uploading myself (or using there .exe loader), I'm just downloading the databases manually from:
    http://www.mobmap.de/download.php

    FYI- For me, this is working with Cartographer without any problems.

    I would think that if you added this line immediately after the spanish one, it should work fine.

    L:RegisterTranslations("frFR", function() return {
    	["Added %s %s to %s at %.2f, %.2f from %s"] = "A\195\177french word for to %s %s a %s french word for at %.2f, %.2f french word for from %s",

    	["Mineral"] = "french word for Mineral",
    	["Herb"] = "french word for Herb",
    	["Treasure"] = "french word for Treasure",
    	["Gatherer"] = "Gatherer",
    	["Fishing"] = "french word for Fishing",
    } end)

    Obviously, everywhere I put "french word for" you should change.

    I don't know how you will reliably track pre-reqs to quests, but it's a worthy goal:) I'd be careful about how much data you collect, however. The save file is already getting pretty big. (I posted a suggestion on reducing the file size in the share DB thread).

    My suggestion is that you integrate (or create) a seperate quest logger that can be accessed through your browser/search options in Quest Objectives. Keep this mod recording the objective locations, but have a different addon keep track of where you collected it, where you turned it in, and the pre-reqs. Some people might want the objective functionality and others the logging functionality.

    One thing I would include in the logging addon is to track whether a specific toon has completed a quest. That way, you could create queries based on what quests (not completed, not active) are still available to you.

    Great. I was mostly done with mine, but no need to finish now. :) Particularly if you are going to be adding data. :)

    Out of curiosity Overload, why is some of the information stored twice in your database structure? For example, when receiving data, the "source" is recorded in it's own section and in the quest section. Does it make more sense to just do one or the other and write a couple of functions that just lookup the value as you need it?

    And most of the quest information is stored twice-- once with the noteid as the key, and once with the quest title as the key. Again, wouldn't it make more sense to simply do it one way and write functions to pull it out?

    I ask only because my save files are getting BIG and only get bigger as I share data with guildies.

    Something like..
    function getQuestData(noteid)
      local questdb = self.db.faction[noteid]
      local x,y = Cartographer_Notes.getXY(noteid)
      return questdb.zone, x, y, questdb.title, questdb.objectivename, questdb.numNeeded, etc.;
    end

    Then whenever you need to this info, all you need is the noteid. Likewise, you could have another one that would be:

    function getQuestDataByQuestName(questname)
      local questdb = self.db.faction
      for noteid,ndata in pairs(questdb) do
       local zone, x, y, title, objective, numNeeded = getQuestData(noteid);
       if title == questname then
        return zone, x, y, title, objective, numNeeded
       end
      end

    Just food for thought...

    I love the mod and I'm not trying to be critical, I am just curious.

    OverloadUT-

    I've attached a simple addon I wrote to search your quest database. You have my permission to incorporate it in your addon or just use the idea to rewrite your own.

    Usage:
    /qsearch = in the chat frame, returns all quests & objectives in current zone

    /qsearch <any string> = returns any quest that matches that string

    So...
    /qsearch bloody

    Would return:
    Quest: Bloody Bone Necklaces (Stranglethorn Vale)
    Bloody Bone Necklace: (26,11), (20,14)

    My thought is that sometimes people ask me about quests while I am in-game and they don't have this addon. I can just do a quick /qsearch and tell them where to go. The file is attached.

    WOWKB supports Cartographer. Metamap was based off this addon. It will also import your KB database from Metamap.

    Someone should write a importer...

    I'd recommend against copy/pasting. The data structure is setup in such a way that it would be very difficult to do it this way. I've got a idea for a pretty simple import script that should be able to compile a database with no duplicates. It doesn't matter if you have Alliance and Horde on the same save file, the importer I will write will sort them out and I'll post a Horde file and an Alliance file.

    The way I see it, it shouldn't take long to compile a fairly complete list if we get enough contributors. So...Let's keep the save files coming! :)

    posted a message on Question About DB's
    I assume this came up because of my post on sharing the DB for Quest Objectives (http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=5092.0).

    To answer your question...

    The way that I think is best is to right a simple function that imports it for you and checks to see if it exists before it adds it. I had something like this written a few minutes ago for Quest Objectives (then my computer crashed) and... I figure I'll rewrite it again tomorrow or the next day.

    Alternately, you can copy/paste if you do it to the right spots. I recommend against this for the reasons you stated above and because it's pretty easy to paste stuff in the wrong spot.
