So if you are a coder with not much to do at the moment, would like to create something useful, and need someone to keep track of things and test it out for you, please drop me a line.

I appreciate the fact that many people don't have the time or will but as I said before on my very first post quoted above, I'm not telling anyone they should help me, I am simply asking if there is anyone out there interested, that hasn't got much to do, maybe some spare time, maybe they've been wanting to make a mod for a long time and have had no ideas, maybe they would like some practice at programming, maybe coding is their hobby, whatever.

This isn't meant to be such a big deal, just something on the side to improve the game a little. And I am a GM don't worry, I can test it out as I also mentioned in the quote above.

You know, I am even willing to drop this project if someone gives me a good reason to, but so far, i only have reasons to continue.

I really don't get what your saying...

I made this thread in the hope i'd find someone willing to make it, and not to be told straight away it's not gonna happen...specially because it's "too good".

I don't have to be a coder to know it can be done. I've already learnt from this thread a couple of new things which support HOW it can be done, and I'm very thankful for those tips.

So yeah, I'll have a nice day thanks!

Well I guess it's a matter of opinion, I don't believe an addon has to do many things to be good and/or useful, it can do one single thing in a quick, easy helpful way to be worth having.

I didn't know you could parse that info into an ingame addon, that's great news! It's exactly because I don't know these things that I'm looking for a coder who does know. That was very helpful info, thank you.

In that case, would it be possible to have the addon track the armory info and keep a record of the players' credit? I see how it might not be possible to deny a withdrawal through the addon, as Xinhuan mentioned it is not prepared for that kind of thing. But perhaps players could still deposit items or money, that info is parsed onto the addon updating the credit, and when there is a request from a player to the bank char, the bank char can then decide to send or not send the item.

I find it very helpful that a player can check his/her credit and post requests to the bank char. I've read somewhere the ingame mail system can be used for this, is that correct?

yeah i do know there is that option, however isn't the idea of creating an addon to simplify things? :)

I have no problem with doing it that way, just thought it would be handy to have a quick and easy way of doing it.

I understand, ok then let's put it another way :)

Let's say we keep the guild vault simply as a storage place, nobody takes anything out, nobody puts anything in, since there might be more than 25 transactions and then the bank char couldn't record it properly. We keep it simply so players can see what's available.

I would still like to have a decent guild bank addon (no disrespect to others). Duckie Bank has too many errors, it's not ideal. GuildBanker and GuildBankAccount, not only have bugs and have been discontinued, they are also quite annoying in terms of players submitting requests... it's not possible.

I think there is a lot of room for improvement, and having learnt the best and worst from the above mentioned addons and others, I think the result of a new project could be quite satisfactory.

Thanks a lot for all your comments so far by the way.

    - There is no way at the moment to track user credits. Ok you can look at the transactions log and then using another program (or pen and paper) sort of make a note of all deposits and withdrawals and workout each user's credit.
    - The only option the person running the GV has is to set how many items a player can withdraw in a certain period of time, regardless of whether this player has credit or not.

This is really the main issue, keeping track of players' credit and using that credit to allow or deny withdrawals. There should also be the option to choose whether you want to attribute DKP to the items in the vault, or vendor price, or auctioneer price, or even custom price. In an ideal situation maybe even have a money value and a DKP value for each item, so that raiders can use their points rather than money, just like you use honor to purchase pvp gear.

I can think of other details I would like to see but these are definitely the main ones.

However, if anyone can suggest a better way of doing this, maybe even an existing addon (although i think i've tried them all) it would definitely be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance for all your replies.

To all of you coders out there, I would like to know if anyone is interested in developing a decent Ace mod to manage the extremely feature lacking Blizz Guild Vault.
I am not a coder myself, but run various projects every day, have had a lot of experience with a whole bunch of other guild bank addons, and believe I know exactly what should and should not be included in such an addon and how it should function.
I also have a lot of time to test it :)
So if you are a coder with not much to do at the moment, would like to create something useful, and need someone to keep track of things and test it out for you, please drop me a line.
    Looking forward to your replies.

    hi
small suggestion to this awesome program... do any of you guys feel that it would be useful to have a rescan button? the reason for this is because the firth time you run the app and set your folder, or if you edit the config, there is no way to rescan the addons other than quitting and reopening the app. i know it's not much trouble and I'm happy with the way it is... just s suggestion :)
    thanks

just tried 1.7b and worked just fine, even ran from a double-click :)
i don't really see the point in alphabetical updates either and although i always choose to update every single addon 99% of times, i can see the use of having a checkbox. sometimes you know of an update version that is not working so great and need to revert to an older one... well if you do that and then run an update again you're kind of screwed. i guess you could change the permissions on that addon folder prior to running the update but that can be a little annoying.

nevertheless, i'm happy with the way it works now, you've done a great job and we can't complain :)
    thanks a lot

    This looks cool.

But im getting an error when i try to run it :(

    Do you know what's wrong?

    Tigermac:~/Desktop tttt$ java JWowUpdater.jar
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: JWowUpdater/jar

    MACOS X 10.4.9 - Intel
    java version "1.5.0_07"

I think you need to run jar files with:

    java -jar JWowUpdater.jar

    /Rolf

I was having the same issue on a mac with the same specs and tried the command you mentioned.
here's a screengrab of the error i get:

I think i know what the problem is. The compiled Jar file is compiled with java 6.0, but only uses 5.0 instructions, so it might fail to run on 5.0 java although it shouldnt. So ill make a new version compiled with 5.0 and put that up.

    *UPDATE*
Ok the new archive is up on the google code page. Its called 5.0 Compile. Could you test that and tell me how it works?

    /Rolf

different result... anyone else getting this?

    hi there,
    great addon, love it!
minor issue but no bid deal. when i click a link to an item the stat numbers appear halfway outside the frame... if i just close the window and click the same link again it shows up just fine. i don't think this works when hovering inventory items, only when i click a link to an item, ie from the chat window.
if anyone is having the same problem, any advice is most apreciated
    thanks a lot
