Mar 7, 2009^ True. But tanks, healers and dps are thrown every-which way. It get's confusing in 25 mans especially, and healing efficiency is lost from exsessive mouse movemenet to select different players on a melee, ranged, healing, tanking, etc. priority basis. Also, when running with pugs it may take several boss fights for a healer to get attuned with the group's layout, increasing risk of a wipe.Posted in: Unit Frames
Mar 6, 2009EDIT: Looking further, I found this addon http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info9650-GridDynamicLayout.html#info that demonstrates what I was talking about in my last post. Seperating the tanks, healers, melee, and ranged dps for more effective healing. Could this be done with AG_Units?Posted in: Unit Frames
The way GridDynamicLayout works is by not looking at spec, but by the stances or auras the players have activated. For example, obviously if a warrior is in defensive stance he is a tank, or if a priest is in shadow form, obviously he is a ranged dps. I'd really love to see this incorporated with AG_Units. Grid doesn't come close to the level of costomization and sleek features that AG_Units has. Please implement sorting based on auras/stances, if not spec type.
Mar 5, 2009I'm looking into the possibility of being able to sort by spec, as well as class?Posted in: Unit Frames
(As well as being able to sort the raid itself by class, not only the individual groups. I'm having trouble with that, but I digress.)
I suggest AG_Units to upload the raid members' spec information, differenciate between protection, melee dps, ranged dps, and healing specs (restoration and holy specs), and sort them accordingly. Sorting by class is one thing, but being able to have AG_Units automatically match tanks with tanks, healers with healers, and dps, ranged or otherwise with their respective groups despite being of alternating classes would be especially handy for healers, particularily in encounters involving damage strictly or predominately to melee dps.
Bundling everyone together based on their respective roles would be even more practical for healers than sorting by class, as sorting by class is under the assumption that all priests are holy, all druids are feral, and all paladins are protection. Sorting all protection-specced players together, all restoration/holy specced players together, all melee (rogues, enhancement shamans, and retribution paladins) together, and all ranged (shadow priests, warlocks, mages, balance druids) together would be SO SO handy and it would most definately make AG_Units a must-have for any healer.
I'm also under the impression that using this feature would make "type 1 if you're a healer", and "type 2 if you're a tank" obsolete, as by looking at the raid units you would see how many healers, tanks, melee and ranged dps you have as they would be automatically sorted.
Please implement this in a future patch! Thank you.
