    EDIT: Code is wrong, Phanx corrected it in the next post.

    local crap, class=UnitClass("player");
    if (class=="WARRIOR") {
         local rage=UnitPower("player");
         DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage("I am a Warrior. I have " .. tostring(rage) .. " rage.")
    }

    Background, yes. Border, no. Borders are specific, unless you're editing a Blizzard border your border image is probably laid out incorrectly.

    Quote from Chrnotic
    Carbonite is now free and is only supported by donation thanks to the new addon policy.

    Since you did indeed "bought" this addon *cough and lol* I'd suggest you check their site more often as the addon (be it revision or version) your using is rather outdated and has been replaced by the so called v.2.59+.

    Carbonite has always been buggy and probably will never work with cartographer running at the same time (unless you tried perhaps and got the map a bit screwed up)

    I'd suggest you download the latest version and spend your $1 on something else. lua should be free, not something you code for profits by stealing "others" works, and using people reports (cords etc) to update "your" so called quest database.

    Stop criticizing his choice of addons. If he wants to blow money buying someone's addons who's selling them against the rules, that's his prerogative.

    Fun fact, he didn't say anything about a quest database. You have no idea what it is, he just said arrow & map points which is plenty of other things as well. For all you know it could be a map of ore locations, or a leveling guide.

    He only made this thread because he wants help, not because he wants people sitting on their high seats to give him useless, and possibly unrelated information.

    Phanx told him that selling addons is against Blizzard policy and the issue is handled, a second person telling him again and limiting it to a specific addon that isn't even related to the issue or mentioned by the original poster isn't needed.

    This version contains a fix in the URLCopy module to prevent your chat completely breaking come wow 3.1

    If you don't want to loose your settings, you only need to replace the "BasicChatMods.toc" file and the "urlcopy.lua" file

    I nolonger play WoW, but i'd just like to say wonderful work on this addon.

    It's entirely possible that modern don't use CR anymore, but I've got all the bases covered at any rate. :lol:

    Ah, so its like I said. I wouldn't imagine they'd change their newline format, there's no reason to.

    Yes, yes, yes, *Lua* is not an abbreviation. I'm simply too used to languages being referred to with abbreviations, hence LUA.

    Hah. No, there are line breaks, but your text editor sucks (Windows Notepad?) and doesn't support that kind of line break (there's more than one kind).

    Whats the third one? AFAIK there's Carriage Return --> Line Feed, which is the Windows standard, and UNIX just uses LF. Macintosh uses something else?

    Quote from stolenlegacy
    Simple question, probably: Currently I can check whether the player has a certain tradeskill using double GetSkillInfo(), but how do I check what the player's skill level in that skill is?

    Look in FrameXML and see how the Skills screen does it.

    so how does this all relate to the ace3? i understand ace3 is a collection of libs for reuse among other addons so i'm guessing nothing in ace3 has to do with my addon.

    Ace3 simplifies a lot of stuff, and reuses code for other things. Any addon can be done with or without Ace3, its just easier to do some things in it.

    Quote from ET20
    Is there a tool to look at ur code better it's not entirely neat like some i have looked at. Like it's all 1 line almost. Also what is the purpose of the xml file then if it is purely Lua?

    How the code looks is up to the person that writes it. There are many editors that will help you with formatting (while writing code), but its a fact of life: when looking at other people's code, it will often be messy and hard to follow because they don't write code the same as you do.

    XML is largely irrelevant now. At the time of WoW's release you couldn't do frames entirely with LUA, or even do much manipulation of frames with LUA. In a later patch, (1.10, I think) CreateFrame was added to LUA, and in subsequent patches other frame-affecting functions were added. This made it possible to do anything XML can do in LUA.

    XML frame-creation is simply part of WoW's engine, its up to you whether to use LUA or XML. *WE* consider LUA to be better, but it is every author's choice and opinion.

    posted a message on Getting MouseOver for font strings
    Make a UIPanelButton for each quest (or quest index) instead of a font string, set the backdrop to nil. It will look the same, and you can just create an OnClick handler for it.

    Dry-coded, but this should be a workable example.

    local f = CreateFrame("Frame",nil,UIParent)
    f:SetFrameStrata("BACKGROUND")
    f:SetBackdrop({bgFile = "Interface/Tooltips/UI-Tooltip-Background",  edgeFile = "Interface/Tooltips/UI-Tooltip-Border", tile = true, tileSize = 16, edgeSize = 16, insets = { left = 4, right = 4, top = 4, bottom = 4 }});
    f:SetBackdropColor(0,0,0,1);

    f:SetWidth(80)
    f:SetHeight(80)

    local ftext = CreateFontString(nil, "OVERLAY", "GameTooltipText")
    ftext:SetPoint("CENTER",f)
    ftext:SetText("MY TEXT HERE")

    f:SetPoint("CENTER",0,0)
    f:Show()

    So.. whats the point of this thread? You basically said "I want to make a similar addon, I don't have any idea on what to change, but I don't want it to be exactly the same.", and you didn't ask a question.

    posted a message on Could need some help to understand all this...
    Tips

    • If you make the addon folder ahead of time and you know you'll need several files make them before starting WoW so you don't have to restart so many times. (Even if they're blank for 45 minutes while you write it)
    • Its generally easier to make addons in WoW itself. Pick up the addon 'WoWLua' to design LUA code in game. I personally have eight addons completely finished all in LUA that i've never actually ported out of WoWLua.
    • Pick up a debugger-- BugSack or Swatter will help you more than you can imagine.
    • You might also want a 'developer' addon. I personally use _Dev. It allows you to make a dump of tables, frames, and other datasets that can be hard to debug.

    Secound, First i thought Notepad was good enough for it, but then i thought that there might be any better ones out their, anyone know some of them? if they are there ^^

    Notepad++. Free code editor, works great.

    Some of it may seems like stupid and dumb things to ask about, but i just wanna know before i begin my adventure into the jungle of LUA, XML and such.. ^^

    Don't use XML for frames. You're better off (my opinion) just doing them in LUA as you have far more control over everything.
