Not gonna register on EJ's boards just to post this, but castsequence and conditional macros now do constant processing to figure out what spell is displayed on buttons.

Moreso, the ChatFrame.lua errors that are all over the place (if you /console scriptErrors 1) when you're using castsequence macros happen OnUpdate -- and processing the error path is likely more costly than doing the checks it's supposed to do.

If stuff's not showing up, reset to defaults (the 'reset profile' button in the profile menu group, you can switch to a different profile if you want to keep your settings) then reload your UI, and see if it still happens. Then start re-applying your settings one by one, and see if any of them break things.

The "Copy from" option doesn't seem to be working. I configured my player cast bar, then attempted to "Copy from > Player" on the target and focus cast bars. It didn't throw any errors, but didn't change any settings either.
I think I know the cause of this, should be fixed soon ^^

    Very nice :)

    Hopeful suggestions:
    1. An option to autocentre the bars.
Snap to Center options, in the individual bar configs :)

    2. Would it be possible to get an option to make the swing timer an over/underlay to the main casting bar? The reason is I usually set up my autoshot bar in some prominent central location, and have my cast bar at low opacity over it (not vertically above it, but actually on top of it, but with different z-order, if that makes sense). I can't explain why but it makes things less confusing to me - while not casting there's only the swing timer to watch, and while casting there's primarily only the casting bar to watch, but if I need to I can look carefully and see how much I over or undershot my timing.
I can't visualize a good way to set that up so as to not conflict with the default bar (which manages to be pretty bright on the default settings, not to mention the spark). Got any ideas?

    3. The other dream feature is probably too much to ask for in a general casting bar mod, but here it is: would it be possible to make the swing timer adjust to keep pace with casts of a specific duration? For instance, if my swing time is 3.0s, and I want it synched to a 1.5s cast, the swing timer's width would be adjusted so that both progress bars move at the same rate - if I pick up a haste effect, instead of the swing timer moving faster, the bar just gets shorter, so that it's movement speed stays the same. If both can have their ends anchored to some fixed X-coordinate, it would make weaving of casts between swings much more intuitive. If I were to start a cast when 0.5s worth of distance has been covered on the swing bar, the two bars would maintain that same 0.5s distance in progress, representing the fact that one is 0.5s in time behind the other.
That's an interesting idea, I'll throw it on the list.
    Quote from alienangel »

Ooo, one last simpler but pretty important suggestion:

    4. Could we have an option to show the current latency safe-zone on the swing timer? The reason is that for a hunter threading steady shots between autoshots, the latency mark on steady shot cast bar isn't useful, since we're not trying to manually cast things after the steady shot - what we're trying to do is to start casting the steady shot as soon as possible after an autoshot fires, and in practice this means pressing the button before an autoshot actually goes off client-side - a latency reading on the swing timer makes this less of a guessing game and more DDR :)
Hrm.. well, autoshot latency isn't as easily measured as casting. So the conundrum is, which latency number to use -- the one provided by blizzard (pros: updated constantly; cons: a measure of general ping, not cast ping), or the one measured by the latency module (pros: probably more accurate; cons: may not be updated as often as it needs to be).

I don't know if you just missed my post or if it's because it's not something Quartz should do but I try again.

I recently decided to hotkey all my spells and therefore switch off all my actionbars. The only problem I am suffering from now is that I have no range indicator.
A suggestion - have the option to turn the spell icon into a range indicator. Preferably with several colours to indicate different ranges as this would help greatly as a healer as I sometimes need to stay at 40 yards other times at 30 yards etc etc.

Since Quartz is modular I thought it would be a nice idea but if it isn't something for Quartz I can understand of course.
Well, you're still faced with initial range-finding on the first cast.. If I were to add a range finder, I'd like to make it an always-visible sort of thing, not just a color tone on the current cast.

nymbia - Try #3 on Quartz last night for me, enough things seem to have been fixed from my previous attempts to allow me to seriously use it now (I evaluate anything on the "are the people in my guild who will invariably use me as their personal addon support bot going to be able to use this" criteria).

Very nice. eCastingBar is gone for me, Quartz is in. A couple of odd things I observed, and one suggestion:

    1) When typing in spells to use as my primary and backup for global cooldown checks, after hitting enter on the primary, the spellname disappeared in the field. I don't know if it took it, or didn't like it, or what. If it wants a rank after it, or . . ? Maybe some sort of visual indication (or an example nearby?) of what's expected would be useful for the masses.
I'll look into making this more.. sane. (which will probably involve prodding nargiddley a bit)

    2) When positioning the bars while unlocked, it shows the bar position according to its height/width parameters - but that doesn't seem to take into account icons if enabled. When unlocked, can a dummy Icon be placed next to the bar(s) if Icons are enabled? This would allow for better positioning of these elements.
I'll throw something on there, good idea :)

Bonus points if you generalize this to anything over a certain duration - certain spells can have *really* long cast/channel times (e.g. warlock summoning portals, or summoning stones in general).

Hrm, I may or may not add the MM:SS.ss mode, as it would need an option, which would constitute a performance hit when the text is updated (which is constantly). I'll take a look and see if it's feasible. Right to left is easy, I'll throw it on the list.

Redoing my UI today and I figured I would give it a shot. Didn't think I would like the big part everyone likes (latency) but better than I thought it sounded :X Nice job!

I have not read the thread in its entirety, so this might be a repeat request:

I'd like to see a better implementation of copying a castbar's settings. Right now, if I want all Castbars to appear like Player, its required to go into the other castbars section and select Player to import those settings. I think it would be more practical to have a section where you could set a universal (texture, etc.) config for the castbars and check off the bars you want it applied to.
Hrm, may be tricky as we can never assume that a module is present, but I'll give it a go.
    Quote from notrachel »

I have a couple of feature requests for your consideration:

    1) An an overheal/healestimator similar to PitBull. Currently I use VisualHeal (off Curse-Gaming) placed below the cast bar to show this but the logical place is in the cast bar itself and it would save me an extra mod. I also think this makes more sense than having it on the unit frames as during big spells I look at the cast bar so i can leave and spell cancel as late as passible.
Bleh, can't find VisualHeal on curse, could you give me a rough overview of how it displays (or just toss up a link)? I had an easy enough time making a display that made sense on PitBull, but this feels trickier.

    2) An option to disable the enemy cast bar when a friendly unit is targetted would be great. i.e. it shows when i target a hostile but hides when i target a friendly.

    Thanks for a great mod.
Sure, I'll add that to the list.

I feel a bit dumb because I just went ahead and registered to request this same thing. The GCD bar is wonderful, and a great idea, but it looks a little 'off' on the middle of my screen with instacast spells. It would be neat as hell if I could shove it all the way to just above my chat windows so I could see it out of the corner of my eye.

Just a couple minor issues with FlightMap support:

    - When taking a flight path that FlightMap doesn't know the timer for, it will report a time of zero, which will result in Quartz making the bar disappear as soon as it appears.

    - When taking a flight path that is shorter than FlightMap expects, Quartz will keep counting down after landing. FlightMap calls a second function to report early termination of a flight that can be used to make the bar disappear upon landing early.
    I'll work on those, thanks!
    Quote from patchinko »

Something I thought would be really cool would be to turn the whole bar red when you get into the latency region. Just to make it a bit easier to know when to do the /stopcasting :)
Hrm, I'll see if I can work it in (the updating code for your cast bar is actually not at all aware of the latency bar, so it may be tricky)
    Quote from Mazzlefizz »

Great work, Nymbia. This is a very sharp add-on, that I quickly became excited about.

    A couple observations and suggestions:

    • The enemy cast bars do not seem to work with many bosses. I'm guessing this has been reported since it's pretty obvious. We did Gruul tonight, and I did not see castbars for any of the bosses there. I did still get reports of the casts from things like Witchunt and CEnemyCastBar. It's a pretty serious limitation, though I'm guessing it's one that is handed to you by the new API.
It should always work when targeting them.. If not, then smack me around, because that's a serious problem.

    • I think the power of the timers really shine when doing things like: tracking DOTS/HOTS across multiple targets, tracking the duration of a CCs like sheeps/saps, tracking immobilization stuff like frost novas. In all those cases, you'll probably switch targets after applying the effect. I'm guessing the dot/buff timer, etc. do not remain after switching a target is also b/c new API just gives information for effect linked to certain unit types. If so, I wanted to suggest the following:
      • Perhaps, whenever the user switches targets, you can create replacement candybar timers for the effect on the target you just had. These timers could be shifted up to a list of bars right above the current ones, with the name of the mob it was applied to right next to it (ala DoTimers). The bottom of the block of timers would always be the current target's timers.
      • When the user switches to a target, you could also compare the name of the new target and the durations of the new targets buffs/dots with the values of the faux timers you made when the user switched from previous targets. If the name of the unit and one of the timers matches closely enough, you could consolidate the two groups of timers, i.e. delete the faux timers for that unit.
Hrm, I like that idea, the one red flag that it raises in my head is how to integrate between the focus and target bars correctly. I'll give it a shot.

    • I wouldn't even worry about doing some of the fancy things that CEnemyCastBars of DoTimers do to monitor effects that randomly break expire early or become subject to diminishing returns. If you ignore that aspect, this solution could be pretty seamless and maintain the simplicity of your current scheme.
I definitely don't want to do any combat log parsing in the buffs module, so early breaks are definitely out on stuff that you aren't targeting, but diminishing returns could be doable.

  • This is a small suggestion, but I think having larger ranges to the offsets would be useful. 10 and -10 were too small for nearly every setup I was trying to create today.
  • Consider it done.

Oh, one question, and I hope it's not too stupid of one. How do you move a set of bars that you don't link to a unit frame and mark as free? I tried all the obvious things like alt/ctrl/shift dragging, right-click dragging, etc.
There should be an 'unlock' checkbox that shows up once you set it to free, once that's unchecked drag it around by the first bar.
    Quote from SchmuseTiger »

For Requests, nothing new, to move the swing timer would be nice thou :)

    Quote from whuz »

any dot timer does all that, why does a castbar need to do it?

A castbar absolutely doesn't "need" to do that. In the original incarnation, I would have never suggested that it should. But the fact of the matter is that the current incarnation does have quite a bid added to track buffs/debuffs, configure how they're displayed, etc.. I'm guessing a lot of that has been added simply because (a) the new API made it easy to do so, and (b) it's modular, so why not? If you think that it should not be part of a castbar add-on, I can understand that argument. Nevertheless, it is, and, with just a few additions, I think it could easily provide enough functionality to replace other timer and castbar add-ons quite elegantly. Right now, I think it's in an in-between state that makes it hard for certain classes to use those features without sacrificing a lot.
Adding that stuff will certainly add a bit more complexity, but, I think I can do it while keeping things up to my standards speed-wise; we'll see :)

Patch madness is dying down, I should be able to get a bunch of this stuff taken care of soonish.
