hey guys, i have 2 questions
recently ported from tinytip and i am missing 2 functions that i cant reproduce yet
first one, is coloring text for people who are in your friends list in a specific color
second, coloring NPC text according to their ability to aggro - i tried both AggroColor and HostileColor but it cant seem to work exactly as i want it to (may be i am doing something wrong tho)
i just want to color name (for example) for npc into red if its "aggroable" yellow if attackable but not aggroable by itself (like guards in booty bay) and green if its friendly. just now i thought that may be some tag working with reputation level might work, but i am too sleepy so i will check tomorrow, i will be still greatful for any help.
work in progress, i forsee some placement changes and probably color/font too, but it was a complete rework using EEpanels so i just wanted to put it together and look what i've got.
question - on some screenshot i've seen a rounded map with very sexy black border, i used to run squeenix for ages now but it can do only square map, and i want to play with round for a change.
Simpleminimap (on screenshot) doesnt have a good round border, any advice?
qft
i simply love it
the only thing is that it really requires some gamma tweaking, it is WAY to high by default - i was actually a bit scared when i first turned it on. but after reading some forums i realized that its a common problem with some of these mons, lowering gamma settings with video card control utility (mine is ATI control center) makes this monitor looks really good.
in fact, both static and dynamic picture wasnt really better on my pretty old but semi pro level 17" tube.
Ckk deprecated fuBar-1.0 when he released fuBar-2.0. It is no surprise if he deprecated fuBar-2.0 with the release of the fuBar-3.0 library. Ckk is not obligated to maintain backwards compatibility with FuBar-2.0 with his FuBar-3.0 library at all. It's his addon. He is steering the addon in a direction of his choosing. Expecting him to forever provide support for your unsanction fork seems pretty illogical to me. Authors choosing to keep their modules current with the current version of FuBar may force all you FuBar-2.0 hangerson to create your own or create more ace forks. This is the risk and probable folly of forking an actively developed addon.
may i ask you a question?
can you throw in a wild guess - will this kind of attitude lessen amounts of forks (for fubar, and now for fubar plugins too)?
because it seems to me that you simply miss one important thing - people arent violating anything with branching addons. people want options, nothing stops them to get em.
one thing would solve everything - if ckk would upped the version of Rock Fubar. and leave old one as it is - everyone who wants to upgrade go and upgrade. everyone who want to stay - do so.
now one person (a good developer and i hope a nice guy too) decided that he can force others to use what he sees right, correct, rational or whatever you call it.
surprise, some people dont. they want things the other way.
and they do it how they want, without messing with anyone actually. only with some people who think that they are in power to decide what is wrong and what is right in moral aspect, since nothing guys have done violates GPL.
you dont like it - dont use it. you arent obligated.
it's not about if i am obligated to use it, it's about if its right for someone other than ckk to fork his addons. if ckk did it then that's fine. however if he didnt it doesnt seem right. whether you agree with rock or not does not matter. the framework that fubar uses does not matter. if you arent happy with a beta version of an addon that doesnt give anyone the right to try and steal control of the project.
this is what i am talking about.
wow, just wow
i spent already 30 seconds typing and deleting because i really dont know how to start.
i will try, not sure if i succeed.
ok here we go. this is game. its called world of warcraft. this is blizzard supported interface modifiaction via lua programming. this is ckk, he is an awesome guy who do awesome work developing addons a lot of people use.
being a really nice guy doesnt (luckily for all of us) him from recoding addons done by nice and smart people before him - FuBar for TitanPanel and Cartographer for Atlas+Gatherer. thanks god, he doesnt need to pay someone for his copyrights because it is all copyrighted by blizzard for commercial use. so everyone can use your code for the same noncommercial use. we are lucky, we now have a bettera addons then Titanpanel and Gatherer.
these are the other guys, who want to take some of good guy ckk code, and make a new addon (but, honestly, just the opposite but who cares? lets count it a new one). they take his code, and put online as a separate addon (keeping all credits saved, so people still know who is the man who brought the light).
now. you come and start flaming me, for example, for supporting this, flaming these guys for using ckk "own work" (its a quote, yes). why?
they arent stealing. they dont try to mess his work on his current project (they even dont advertise, i found about fubarace via forum post by a random user), they just give people options.
whats wrong with it?

unless the original author of FuBar puts them out it shouldn't even have been done. It deprives him of controlling his own work, witch is his right. And no last time i checked ck had little to nothing to do with the ace version any more as the trunk version has moved on.
no, it is not his own work. his own work is his addons he continue to develop. this "work" is other guys work, who made that addon hit svn and /files. there is absolutely no need for ckk to "control" it, they will carry on just fine.

i really cant see what makes you (or anyone else) obligated to use it.
for me it is how it should be done from very start - separate Ace2 version and separate Rock version
btw it is fully supported.
0
it is standalone version of cartographer, but based on ace2 instead of rock :)

in short, qft.
edit
last update broke Carto for me. almost no plugin is loaded at start.

works.
figured it earlier yesterday but forgot to post here.
also had to purge saved variables since it wasnt saving profile data correctly.
everything is a cake now, both fubar and carto, thank you people, i was voting for this to happen from the very start of rocked versions :D
