Actually, another part of the problem is that there is data in your SavedVariables folder that shouldn't be shared at all, intermixed with the 'put my target frame here' kind of stuff -- think Auctioneer data etc (well across servers of course).
A specialized ShareMyUI addon might be able to save only the UI settings but that addon has to have a list of variables to save per addon that it wants to save the settings of, which means keeping things in sync on the code level. Not much fun.
Maybe it's something for AceConfig-3.0, separating UI stuff from the 'char' stuff, or make it easier to share UI-related profiles?

Jul 20, 2007Simplest fix for that: shift + click the set on your tooltip, and then just toggle one item from green to red before clicking 'save'.Posted in: General AddOns
If you use the enchanted item in multiple sets, repeat for all those sets.
Jun 22, 2007I don't know if this issue allready has been named since there are about 100 pages and I don't have time to read thru all of them *g*Posted in: General AddOns
So ... well ...
Bartender3 is GREAT !
But there's one little thingy that makes me nuts ...
There is no Latecy bar ...
I don't use FuBar or any other Titan-like mods because i hate them ^^
therefore i have no other choice than use BT3 without Latecy or play with latecy meter but without BT3 ... a hard decition ...
Therefore I suggest to put in a latecy meter support.
The new Latecy Meter introduced by Blizzard with the 2.1 Patch is really good and the CT_Team used plugin which splitts the mainbar to its basic elements ... the Bagelement contained the Latecy meter and I was happy ^^ But the CT_team is going to stop working (or to start working even slower than they are now) so I decided not to use CT_barmod and CT_bottombar anymore.
I've changed now to BT3 and I'm really happy with it, it's a great plugin, but i miss my latecy *g*
Maybe you can add an option to the Bags-Menu to "Show/Hide Latecy Meter".

Take for instance the addon I wrote, FryListDKP. I didn't include a license with it, so it just has the "i made it, i have the copyright" on it. Morgalm wanted to make modifications to it, and he asked me to do this. I have no problems, given that a) I get credit, and b) He doesn't release anything under the name I use. If ace2 was GPL, I wouldn't be able to do this. I would *have* to let him make derivative works, and I wouldn't have to be given credit.
couldn't you (from what I'm reading of this thread) licence it under BSD (or other licence) that will allow propogation of credit or somesuch? It doesn't necessarily -have- to be GPL, merely a compatible licence.
Actually, the BSD-with-advertising-clause license is NOT compatible with the GPL, so that doesn't work either.

I'm not too up to speed on the legalese involved with licensing in general, so forgive me if I make any errors here. From what I'm reading, GPL requires that any project containing a GPL component must be licensed as GPL or GPL-compatible (BSD, etc.). LGPL does not, as it was, as Clad said, designed specifically for libraries. So under GPL, anyone who uses Ace must provide their works under GPL. Under LGPL, someone could take Ace and run with it, so to speak, including it in private, for-sale software like RDX?
Yes, but if the RDX author changes Ace in *any* way he'd have to release his changes back to the Ace project (or, failing that, stop distributing RDX).

Now, as I see it, that's not cool. I don't want to see the hard work of this community ripped off and sold. I know some here don't care what happens to their work, and that's their perogative. I suppose I'm a bit biased in that I think selling addons in general is disgusting. But that's how I see it. Kill two birds with one stone by making Ace legally open source, and keep the munchkins from swiping stuff for their own profit.
Also, other addons using Ace without including GPL is only an issue if Ace chooses it to be, is it not? I mean, so long as Ace doesn't press the case, it doesn't matter. I mean, everyone is using it illegally right now, and nothing bad is happening, neh? So put it under GPL, and no worries if people abuse it a little. But if someone does something that needed to be stood up against, there's be the legal pull to do so.
Not quite. If you don't press the case against the others too, you'll have less of a legal argument *if* this ever goes to court. Not that I think it will, but there it is...
FWIW my tiny vote would be LGPL simply because I don't like forcing licenses on other addons. I'm happy with all the options though, and I like the fact that there will be _a_ license to clarify the situation :)
Nov 30, 2006So I just bought a n52, and I'm having trouble deciding on a good layout. I know this is of course a very personal issue, but still I'd love some feedback on what others have chosen and why.Posted in: General Chat
Are you using the D-pad for moving, or just for 4 / 8 extra buttons? What do you use the orange & "thumb" button for? How many shift states? If at all possible a profile link would be great!
Nov 22, 2006For those few still interested in this now that BT3 is working... :)Posted in: General AddOns
I managed to make keybindings suck less, I also managed to reuse the Blizzard buttons for the 4 extra bars. This means that AckBar is now more lightweight than it was in 1.12.
However, the Blizzard buttons in the beta code right now are not meant to be reused. This results in AckBar getting a lot of ADDON_BLOCKED events and there's nothing I can do about it -- except do as nevcairiel did and rewrite the whole button code. But when I do that AckBar wouldn't really differ from BT3 anyway.
So, there are some updates to the Blizzard buttons coming in the next beta push. I've got hope that that will make reuse of their code easier. In the meantime, AckBar TBC is "working" if you ignore the ADDON_BLOCKED spam that it generates (BugSack makes that pretty easy ;-)
In summary: until Blizzard rewrites a few things, don't count on AckBar working 100% come TBC. For those wanting a fully functional action bar mod for PTR/Beta right now, go use BT3.
I will probably abandon this project if at the release of the expansion the Blizzard code still isn't reusable, as there's no point in duplicating efforts; the only reason for AckBar's existance right now is that it aims to reuse as much Blizzard code as possible.
Nov 16, 2006Stance switching for rogues & warriors is in and working in the TBC version. The current implementation for setting hotkeys is screwy from a user interface point of view, but it works (set the keybinding in the default keybinding UI; although it doesn't seem to stick, it works). Next up is fixing the pet bar. After that I'll think about a better keybinding way and implement some of the requests.Posted in: General AddOns
Nov 6, 2006OK, I caved in and submitted the 1.12 version to WoWI: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=5853Posted in: General AddOns
I also applied for a beta key, so as soon as I have that I will devote some time to making it work in TBC, including fixing the stealth bug & showing keybindings.
Bloodix: your suggestion is noted, I'll see what I can do.
Oct 26, 2006Thanks Devla for picking this up, and porting it to TBC. I'm actually nearly done with my move so I'll have some code time coming up. Not sure what's wanted though, so feel free to suggest the things you want to see. No promises as to what I can do though :)Posted in: General AddOns
Sep 14, 2006AckBar (which I wrote) is not yet fully functional, which is why I haven't created a "release" thread yet. See also the wiki page which I will try to keep up to date.Posted in: AddOn HELP!
As for performance, AckBar does use some more initial memory than Bartender2 because I create new buttons instead of reusing the extra Blizzard ones. I'm eyeing some ideas to make this more efficient but as stated on the wiki page I won't have time in the coming few weeks to do much of anything online.
In other words: use another action bar addon if you can't live without some features, and/or don't want to fix stuff yourself :)
