Is the new curse client (the 4.0 version) in beta as yet?

Is there a place one can report misbehaving (?) addons with the CC?

I mentioned it on IRC and I think netcurse said he had fixed it but I'm still seeing the issue with CC 3.0.0.4.

The addon in question is RaidCooldowns and no matter how many times it is updated through CC, it always shows as having a new update available on the next refresh.

I had this issue a few times. In every case, the fix was to delete the addon from my Addons folder, then use the CC to find and reinstall it.

There is no difference whether I use CC right after the boot up is finish or 15 minutes later. If I run CC then exit then run it again, the scanning is a lot faster and this may have something to do with the file system caching NTFS information.

The extraction part of the install is always long and always freeze the system midway during the extraction. If I install/update 5 packages, I'll get 5 freezes.

Interesting. Then it's a disk operation that it's waiting for, and for some reason, locking your system. Does it just lock up the CC, or is your entire system unresponsive?

Also the current scanner in the client can complicate that. While it is a low priority thread it can eat up a good bit of resources.

In the 4.0 client we're redesigning the scanner to include a cache. This will drastically cut down on the resources it uses. :)

Are you saying that the CC's scanner takes advantages of Vista's low-priority I/O, or that the thread runs below "normal" CPU priority (or both)? Just curious :)

Nope, CC is always running before I start WoW for the first time after rebooting my PC.

If you are running it right after the bootup finishes, that could cause slowness. Windows spends a good deal of time after you can see the desktop and use programs caching programs and data, as well as staggered startup of services.

Thank you for your response. Hopefully the CC will eventually be a 100% user-mode application (aside from installation and update...obviously some admin privileges needed then to write the registry entries).

    Hello,
I just wanted to throw out a quick thanks to the CC dev folks for seriously improving the function of the CC with Windows' UAC. It now only asks for elevation permission when it needs to update -- this is a great improvement! I appreciate the hard work.

That's a good point about RSS -- could you build an RSS client into the CC that connects to RSS feeds for projects from other sites? That might work.

We're looking in at fixing this although currently it has to do with registry access and having the updater run properly.

From what I'm told you can decline it's elevation and it runs otherwise just fine.

Thank you for your response. Hopefully the CC will eventually be a 100% user-mode application (aside from installation and update...obviously some admin privileges needed then to write the registry entries).

I use Windows Vista, and my WoW directory is not in Program Files (it's in the alternative default path "Public\Games\"). However, the Curse Client requires administrative privileges every time I start it.

I can't think of any reason it should require privileges...is there something I'm missing? And if there isn't any requirement, wouldn't it make sense not to have CC require admin? Could this be a setting?

    Thanks!
