Okay, thanks for the replys, I just presumed the backup feature actually backed it up, which does make sence :p So I didn't make my own backups. I found out on the same day I posted originally that it was just a list of the exact addons i had.

About the Saved variables, very good tip write protected, I'll try it. But... I'm not sure what to think now, whether it is actually WAU, it's an incredible coincidence that both times i lose all mod settings that it was straight after a "Update all installed addons" the other times I used WAU I did it manually selecting which mods I wanted updated. And as well there's a couple other people with what seems to be the same problem in that "Help!" thread. But on the other hand, a guildie said his gf randomly lost all settings one day, and she doesn't use this updater. I hope it ain't a WoW bug, otherwise it'll take fkn ages to fix.

edit: the WTF folder is aptly named, because it's been read only the whole time, then decides it has amnesia or something... What the f**k.

That is called common sence tbh, anyawy I made a post on the official discussion sticky, which I hope gives you all the details you need. If you could check it out that'd be great, since I can't do jack shiet on wow now.

This problem needs an answer, it seems some people get all their personal addon settings removed when the updater is used, I'm not exactly pleased. Re-making my UI every time I update via this ain't an option :\

Well I've set WAU to backup after an update, and it's buggered my ui this morning so, how do i use these .xml backup files, there's no option I can see in the menus.

And on a side-note, why is it doing this? 2nd time it's happened, last time I had to redo my UI, it doesn't remove any addons just completely strips everything of any customisation and puts it back to default. So I load up wow and a few confirmation boxes and first time startup boxes appear, then i look at my bars and they're in the wrong place, cycircled has reverted to the circles around buttons when i usually use squares, and that's just the first thing I notice :s there's more. Any ideas?
edit: just thought I'd mention this happened after an "update all installed addons" if that wasn't obvious.

few more specifics incase you need, im on 1.9.45.718 updating from the default mirror, although when i look at the mirrors tab now there's nothing there O.o It was files.wowace.com before. Also, I *think* the last time this happened was when I used "update all installed addons" and I started manually selecting which mods I wanted updated after I'd had to redo the UI, so possibly something to do with that function.
