    posted a message on outdated tocs
    I don't know where Compost went, but it's gone from my addons folder. I've taken out Soar and chatthrottlelib, and done a rescan with jwowupdater.jar, and both come back as needed missing embeds, but the program doesn't tell me what addon(s) want(s) them. I logged into wow and didn't get any error messages with them missing, either.

    Did a grep of my addons folder. Soar is listed as an optional dependency by FuBar-TopScoreFu. That addon doesn't seem to miss it though. Chatthrottlelib is not listed as a dependency in anything I have. Not sure why jwowupdater tells me I need them. It's gonna be a pain if I can't figure out how to make it not do that.

    I'm not using Damage Meters. :-)

    Several new (to me, anyway) libs have outdated tocs now:

    Lib: ItemPrice-1.0
    Lib: RangeCheck-1.0
    Lib: TableTopLib

    I suppose this is the right thread for this... maybe it's a dumb question, but... how do I move a chat frame with Prat?

    The toc is really the least important file there is. If you want the very latest version of the mod use WoWace files. As explained on the google site only infrequent releases are published there. Additionally any rev of Periodic Table is picked up on WoWace files. This is not the case for the google version.

    As for the alpha, it is only available on google and not on WoWace files at all. This will change as soon as I make my way through another 2 items of the major deficiency list for it. At that point it will become the WoWace files version & a beta, hopefully in time to avoid a bald patch on my head. Completing the minor deficiency list will get an actual release version after 9 months of beta.

    Okay, got it. Guess I'll just load out of date addons routinely - unless they stop working. And tell my OCD to sit down and shut up. :-)

    I can certainly do that in my own copies. Can I/should I upload the changed toc file somewhere? If so, how do I do that? (Yes, I'm a noob at this. Sosumi. :-)

    posted a message on Too many cooks?
    First, I'm a bit OCD about some things. For example, I like my addons not to get flagged as "out of date" in game, especially when they were updated this morning.

    I use the Mirage UI compilation. Led puts a lot of work into testing all the mods he includes, and trying to ensure they're up to date. So last night, he put out a new version of the compilation, updated for 2.2. This morning I downloaded it, installed it, and then ran WAU (the java version, since I'm on a mac) and found a fairly long list of "newer" mods. So I told WAU to update 'em. Then I logged into WoW, and was surprised to find a number of mods did not have up to date tocs. In the course of poking around, I discovered a new version of QuestAnnouncer (just for example) on WoWInterface, apparently posted by the "official" developer. It has a current toc. It doesn't have a current version # file. So when I run WAU again, it tells me this is version 0 of QuestAnnouncer, and there's a new version here I need to download. But that "newer" version is actually, it seems, based on an older official version.

    I applaud the idea of having multiple people work on a project, but it seems to me there needs to be some coherence to it. That, as I understand it, is why things like svn exist. I realize that WoWAce can't control where devs decide to make their home - some here, some on curse, some on wowinterface, some on google. Nor can you control, really, what people upload to the svn. So maybe this is an insoluble problem - but it's definitely a pain for mod users. It takes me most of a day to get things the way I like when a new compilation comes out. If I have to worry about whether I really have the latest version of whatever it just makes things worse.

    I know what Blizzard's answer would be, but I don't like their default UI. Surely we can find a way to improve the situation. Any ideas?

    posted a message on outdated tocs
    The following libraries (latest versions just downloaded from here with the java version of WAU) seem to have outdated tocs - they show up as "out of date" in game:

    Lib: ChatThrottleLib
    Lib: Compost
    Lib: Glory
    Lib: Soar-1.0

    posted a message on ElkBuffBars v2 (finally Ace3 version)
    In the latest ElkBuffBars, r47663.17, just downloaded from wowace files, the toc still says 20100, so the mod shows up as "out of date" in the game. Oversight?

    posted a message on toc updates
    The following Cartographer modules show up as "out of date" in the in-game addon list, because the "#interface: " line in the toc hasn't been updated:

    Cartographer [Mining]
    Cartographer-Fishing
    Cartographer-Icons
    Cartographer-Icons_CtMapMod
    Cartographer-Icons_Gatherer
    Cartographer-Icons_MetaMap
    Cartographer-Import
    Cartographer-Noteshare

    A minor thing, I suppose, but I suppose I'm a bit obsessive-compulsive. :-)

    Much confusion. The google site's latest beta version is 202006 or r49858, depending where you look. It has a current toc, so will not show up as out of date in WoW. But the version on WoWace files has a later version number - r50269 - and does not have the current patch number in the toc. It appears that we have, on the Wowace site, unofficial updates which are not being properly integrated into the official version. I suppose the lesson here is that we should get the mod from the google site, and tell wowaceupdater to ignore what it finds on the wowace site (how do I do that with the java version?)

    Before I figured this out, I added an issue on the google site about r50269 not having an updated toc. Should I remove it?

    "If this does nothing then your fk'ed, or something didn't load in the proper sequence."

    Hm. Well, I have the same problem, and I just ran through your checklist. The only things I have on my map are a couple of vendors in area 52 I just visited, and the flightpath at Cosmoswrench, which I have not visited this session. I don't have the area 52 flight path.

    posted a message on General Noob Questions
    Okay, I really like this addon. I used to use Metamap, but I switched. But...

    1. Is there, somewhere, a users' manual or at least a faq for Cartographer and its associated addons? I have the waypoints module, and I figured out that /way xx,yy adds a waypoint to the queue, but I had no idea there were other available slash commands until I stumbled across a post here. Other modules, similar problems.
    2. Is there, somewhere, a list of what associated addons are actually current? A lot of stuff seems to get started and then left lying around. That "Heat" thing, for example.
    3. Back when I still had Metamap, I subscribed to Brian Kopp's leveling guide. He included a metamapEXP.lua file with all the notes from his guide (the notes had just the coordinates, but they were useful to click on and set waypoints). Then I swtiched to Cartographer. I poked around a bit, and somewhere I found instructions that told me I need the Cartographer_Icons_MetaMapPack addon and the Cartographer_Import addon. So I grabbed those, and per instructions put the file Brian supplied in the Cartographer_Import folder. Didn't work. So I disabled Cart, and reinstalled Metamap. Had no problem seening Brian's map notes. So I exported them using Metamap's "export" function. Then I reinstalled Cartographer, etc., deleted Metamap, and looked again. Found the notes just fine. But I wanted more, so I wrote to Brian and asked him about it. He sent me a file named "Cartographer.lua", but told me he had no idea where to put it so Cartographer could read it. The file contains this:

    CartographerDB = {
    ["namespaces"] = {
    ["Notes"] = {
    ["account"] = {
    ["pois"] = {
    ["The Hinterlands"] = {
    [57308833] = {
    ["title"] = "31.57",
    ["icon"] = "Triangle",
    },
    },
    ["Moonglade"] = {
    [45499681] = {
    ["title"] = "51.45",
    ["icon"] = "Diamond",
    },
    },
    },
    },
    },
    },
    }

    I've snipped quite a bit, but the bulk of the fille simply repeats the format here with different location notes - and I may have messed up the bracket-closing, but it's right in the original - I checked.

    The one thing I'm sure of is that this is not a replacement for the Cartographer.lua file in the Addons:Cartographer folder. :-) Do I need to rename it? Where does it go so that Cartographer will read it?

    posted a message on Instance Maps not Working
    I'll add myself to the list of those for whom this isn't working. I've not tried from inside an instance yet, but sitting in the inn in Area 52, I opened the map and tried to change to an instance map, and none of them seem to be working. Don't know whether I would have found the first one (or more) working if I'd happened to pick a good one.
