there's a build in fade for chat windows already
The build in fade triggers after some set amount of time and fades text to alpha value 0. MiniChat fades to a user defined alpha value, affects the whole chat window and is triggered by minimizing instead of after some time. You can set the alpha for the maximized window state, too.

I set it up to minimize to the bottom and the next time i relog, the bottom position becomes the top of my chat
Are you using the latest version? I fixed this a while ago, but if you are experiencing this with the current release I'll have to look into it again.

Yeah, but I felt like Sherlock Holmes to discover it.

Perhaps the Author off Chronometer can look into this.
    He fixed this problem there.

You can disable all other addons to find out if there's a conflict.

I use a resolution of 1280x1024 and got the same problem with position resetting. This happens with Antagonist, too. So this really seems to be a library thing.

This is strange if it's still going. I had that happen only system messages (the yellow ones) and with the latest fix it works out. Could you give me information about your font size and to how many lines you minimize?

There seems to be more to investigate in this bug though. I'm not getting a proper scroll down on system messages for example.

This was a bug introduced through 2.2. It should be fixed if you update your version.

    @pumpkin1969:
If you have AutoMaximize on General, Trade, LocalDefense or Loot enabled, it will maximize all windows because I couldn't find a way to check which chat windows get those messages.

Man, do I hate patches breaking every single addon I use.
The "good" thing is that I'm getting this frame shifting error now, too. So I can effectively try to fix it.

Or are there any known issues with other Ace2 addons? Like Prat e.g., which I use also?
No. Perhaps you can upload a small video on youtube or something to illustrate the problem. Your option setup could also be usefull.

It won't (or shouldn't) maximize when chats are active and none of them goes to the combat log.

I do, yes. Default chatframe is at the bottom, the combat log is above and attached to it.

Now, if you have a chat window locked, there won't be any min- or maximization taking place.
If you meant that your combat log moves up with the maximizing default chat window, then this is of course normal because of the attachment.
