    I think that's the roadmap to get there, too.

    I'm not a real author. ;) I'm an ex-programmer (lightweight division), an erstwhile graphic designer, but above all else I'm a sound designer (which ironically means I'm doing more web programming than ever before, for film-makers and producers ... heh).

    I used ScITE when I had a living Windows machine, and loved it, but now that I've gone Mac I use Vim or jEdit. I use jEdit mostly for browsing through code (it's got code folding) and Vim when I know what I want to do and where it goes. I've got a number of other text editors too - that's an old fetish. But plain ol' Notepad has been off my list for ages. SciTE is still my favourite.

    I'm busy the next night or two, but I'll poke around at the thing now that I've chipped in. Keep an eye on your PM's.

    They didn't work for me, either. But the links here - http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=5000.msg85540 - are still good.

    That'd flip the idea over a little. It's not that these places are where quests are, it's that some quests are where some of these places are (or near them). Magellan is more like a notes version of Foglight - revealing points on the map from data received by the client whether or not you've been there.

    But I completely missed that all those points are attached to a "spot". I though that it wasn't always the case with Magellan, but maybe I never noticed before.m

    This is working pretty well so far, Wiltock. I've been flying around gathering up points. It's a little funky tho - when I browse my maps, it adds new points from the map I'm looking at to the map I'm in. If I'm in Dun Morogh, zoom out, zoom back in on the Wetlands, then all those Wetlands points show on my Dun Morogh map instead of Wetlands. GetZoneText() returns the name of the zone I'm standing in, not the name of the zone I'm looking at.

    I've changed your function a little:

    function POI_Magellan_AddNote(name, textureIndex, x, y)
    	local continent = GetCurrentMapContinent();
    	if( continent == 0 ) then
    		return;
    	end

    	local zone = GetZoneText()

    	local zNames = { GetMapZones(continent) }
    	local zIndex = GetCurrentMapZone()
    	local mapName = zNames[zIndex]

    	if zone ~= mapName then
    		zone = mapName
    	end

    	if textureIndex == 15 or textureIndex == 6 then
    		Cartographer_Notes:SetNote(zone, x, y,
    			              "POI",
    			              "POI",
    			              "title", name,
    			              "titleR", 1.0,
    			              "titleG", 0.5,
    			              "titleB", 0.0)
    	end
    end

    It seems so far to be working better.

    Since it hasn't worked in a long time, this is entirely from my old man memory ...

    More like GamePressure's maps. I don't know if the points correspond one to one with the overlay textures that Foglight shows, but if you picture a spot in the middle of each one, Magellan is like that. I always assumed that it was one point in the center of each are you "discover" as you roam the maps, but I never checked to confirm that. I don't recall that any of the points directly corresponded to any "landmark" in the conventional sense (such as an instance entrance), but I could be wrong.

    EDIT :: A picture is worth a thousand words ...

    It automagically adds landmarks to any map, just as POI does with Guard notes. The difference is it happens as you open or enter a map, and it's not just for cities/guards.

    Quote from Magellan Description (http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=1782) »
    This mod will populate the the main map with notes for local landmarks, even in unexplored areas. As you mouse over them, you will see the description. If you ask a town guard for directions, those will be saved as a MapNote as well.

    You MUST have the 'MetaMap' AddOn installed for Magellan to do anything.

    The landmarks are all retrieved from the server, so it is just making visible information that the client already has access to. It is most useful for low level characters with lots of unexplored areas. It should continue to work when new landmarks are added and even in new zones if/when they are released later.

    This mod is a godsend in raids. Just make sure you turn off buffing in combat so you don't waste your mana in the middle of long boss fights buffing someone!

    If you turn off the scroll wheel function and set it to a keybind, it can be a nice "fast cast" for some buffs, depending on the class. Since you can only have one during combat only, I use it for self-only or AE buffs to throttle re-casting. Battle Shout, f'rinstance, or shammy weapons buffs.

    This works perfectly! no pink circles anymore yay!

    Thanks for your help. I don't know why it works though (when I open the .tga file, i can still see pink!) but it does! :P

    Yer welcome - it was just a quick 'n dirty edit in Gimpshop (select all, Delete - opening Gimpshop was the lengthiest part!). I see that magenta (pink) in other editors/viewers, but I think it's just leftover alpha channel information, not the same pink as the rings.

    And hey, if it works ... /handwash

    I haven't given it much of a workout, but this should work - you can replace the pink circle texture with one that's 100% transparent. That's probably the easiest way. I've tested this one briefly, and not seen any pink circles or bugs. But not having seen them isn't the same as seeing that they're not there. ;)

    Drop this over the texture at Cartographer > Cartographer_Notes > Artwork > TrackCircle.tga. I think that'll work for the circles. The default yellow "blips", so far as I'm aware, are untouchable.

    If it's TradeBar, this is from the README.txt:

    General: This addon will only work for you, if you have an english or german client! Other languages have to translate
    the "locale-xxXX.lua" and send it to me (mallen@gmx.net; in english or better in german, please) ;)

    1. Move the box by left-click and drag (only if unlocked - see "/tb locked")
    2. commands
    /tradebar or /tb
    Further help ingame by using only /tb

    I've never used it, if it's bugged I don't know.

    Also: Is this a FuBar plug-in? This may question may be in the wrong spot.

    The forum is missing a topic search functionality. I think that would eliminate a lot of duplicate posts.

    Advanced search - Options: Search in topic subjects only

    It's "Advanced search" in the Babylon theme, and "forum links > ... search" in the default/wowace theme.

    Also, is there a way we can use these massive databases to show us Quest givers, as well? Since most of the 1-60 stuff is in these databases, it would be a huge help, especially for places like the Wetlands.

    Cartographer_Quests is the answer

    posted a message on Internet Radio while raiding
    I was on the SomaFM site and this bit summarizes some of the core issues very well:

    In the past, under the Small Webcasters Act, independent internet broadcasters had an option to pay a percentage (10-12%) of their revenues to SoundExchange for these royalties on the "sound recording". This is in addition to the 5-6% royalties they pay to ASCAP, BMI and SESAC for the royalties on the composition of the song. But this Act expired at the end of 2005.

    Now, internet broadcasters are being forced to pay "per song, per listener", and the rates go up every year until 2010 when the current agreement ends.

    Satellite broadcasters pay royalties based on a percentage of their revenue; local radio stations pay no royalties at all to labels or artists for their over-the-air broadcasts. But now internet radio is no longer being allowed to pay based on our revenues, and instead have pay per song, per listener. This means for 2006, the fees will be around $600,000 for 2006. Based on our current listenership, these fees will be over $1 million dollars for 2007! And the fees go up every year through 2010. From 2000-2005, we had to pay 10-12% of our revenues. Now we're bring forced to pay several times our total revenues. Why should internet radio have to pay so much more? It doesn't seem fair.

    David Byrne has an interesting breakdown on it, too.
