There is no point in using externals for tagged libraries. Externals work well for importing code that you know and expect to change. When developing against a library you should not be expecting the library to change. If you don't expect the library to change then you don't need to check for updates to that library every time you svn up. The idea of tagging is so that you can develop against a stable, non-changing library that you know will work as long as neither are touched. So when I develop an addon, I download tagged versions of the library instead of setting them as externals because I know it only needs to be downloaded once. Externals are something that imo have been abused on the Ace SVN.

Anyway, no brain power left to create coherent thought.

You guys were serious about banning him for his posts? That is the most obnoxious thing I have ever heard.

Many of the opinions and statments he made reflect those of people who may not want to post and endure the wall of text dressing down from each and every member of the Ace3 team - who needs that? I had the same thing happen to me in another thread, hence I dont bother to voice my opinions.

Don't forget that life did go on while you guys were away in protest. There is a community here which you have not been part of. Some of those people may not like things you are doing. They have every right to feel that way.

What exactly do you mean by "On the other hand, it is hard to ignore the immense success of Ace2 - no matter how jealous a couple of the Ace3 developers obviously are that ckknight was able to achieve it and they were not."? To me that statement reads thus:

A couple of the Ace3 developers are jealous that ckknight was able to achieve immense success because he wrote Ace2. I sincerely hope that this is not the case because from what I recall there were far more developers who contributed to Ace2 than just ckknight.

Indeed there were/are many developers contributing. That's very much the success I am talking about: The community behind Ace2. That's much more important than the technical detail. Who cares about a framework that does everything the "right way" if it does not have support from both developers and users? Well, I certainly don't.

As for the jealousy part. You are right. It's off-topic and poo slinging. I will try to behave. :P

You make it sound as if Ace3 is not going to have support from both developers and users. From my perspective, this could not be further from the truth. As grounds for this statement I point to the fact that many developers who were part of Ace1 -> Ace2 but left are coming back to help with Ace3. I also look at the fact that Ace3 is being developed by many people so those developers have an interest in wanting to use Ace3, why write it if you're not even going to use it?

I don't understand why you seem to state that Ace3 will not have support from users but I guess because that's something in the future no one can guarantee what the outcome will be.

In my opinion, there will continue to be a community behind Ace3 when it is released but that community will have to be built from the Ace2 community. The same should be said of the Rock community, it will have to be built from the Ace2 community. I don't think any framework is going to be able to *poof* into existence with a large community, it has to be built up. As such, any arguments on the so called community of an addon framework that is yet to be publicly released seems quite moot to me. MOOOOO

The design procedure: While Rock leans towards "Review Ace2, improve it, remove the unnecessary, rename it to Rock", Ace3 leans towards "First discuss what is essential, then see if something from Ace2/Dongle/Rock/Other can be used", thereby leave the old Ace2 library untouched.

If that means "keeping an open mind", then it is a good thing. On the other hand, it is hard to ignore the immense success of Ace2 - no matter how jealous a couple of the Ace3 developers obviously are that ckknight was able to achieve it and they were not.

Perhaps you mean that ckknight is achieving success with Rock by piggy backing on Ace2? But even that is not true because ckknight has not released any rock based mods, he is still in the process of testing them and finding any bugs.

I believe when you are trying to have a discussion/argument, you should be as clear as possible in what you mean and you should try not to stray off topic. I don't see how a discussion on any set of developers is relevant to the frameworks.

Though really, I just don't understand what that statement was trying to say/achieve.

    CONTINUE THE POO FLINGING!

Without having taken a look at HealComm, I'd like to express my ongoing hopes for a standardized solution for tracking heals. Even if it's initially only addons listening to all currently available spellcast libraries.
