    posted a message on ag_UnitFrames (Release 7/19/2006) alpha version
    A few comments, FWIW:

    1. I notice there is some code to allow raid groups to grow to the right which suits my horizantal layout. How do I switch this on? And when it's switched on can you make the "Group 1*" bit smaller? i.e. make the label "1" and shrink the frame that label is in as it really serves no purpose other than being a grab handle for dragging.

    2. The smart style of health text is great but it would be much better if the number was just the deficit and in red so i can see it properly. I can see how close to death you are from the health bar all i need in a number is deficit so I can use the right heal.

    3. The fonts seem kind of odd with some sort of drop shadow? This makes them unreadable unless i set the frame scale to > 170% and this means nothing comes remotely close to fitting on my screen. Note that I use 2048x1536 resolution and set the UI scale as small as it will go whcih might be affecting the fonts or something.

    Quite possibly my needs from raid frames are entirely atypical so maybe nobody else has these problems. From my point of view as a healer I want it as legible as possible and as space efficient as possible so I can have a clear game screen and a full 40 raid UI in the area I reserve for the raid frames using Viewport.

    Unfortuantely for me legibility and space efficiency are showstoppers whcihi is a great shame as I really like them otherwise. So for the moment I am using your frames to replace DUF but have to stick with CTRA (and all that entails) for my raid frames.

    Thanks.

    posted a message on Addon to show ingame DKP value
    99% of in-game items have no DKP value so trying to hook DKP numbers into full item databases seems nuts to me.

    IncDKP I linked earlier (http://tinyurl.com/otyx7) is not the best mod in the world but it does seem to do exactly what you the OP wanted. You write a simple list of the just the Items that have a DKP number and enter your values. The DKP number then appears in the Tooltip for that item.

    The DKP file looks like this:

    Incursion_DKP_values = {
    ["Aegis of Preservation"] = { points = 10 };
    ["Aged Core Leather Gloves"] = { points = 30 };
    ["Amberseal Keeper"] = { points = 40 };
    ["Amulet of Foul Warding"] = { points = 22 };
    ["Ancient Cornerstone Grimoire"] = { points = 30 };

    You should be able to do what I did and get this automatically generated from your DKP software.

    HTH.

    "i wanted to throw CT away, for a healer, the health bars are much to small"

    I have the same problem -- virtually all the raid frame designs I see waste space with pointltess margins and gaps and have little slivers of green for health bars beneath the often much large name. 40 frames is a lot and a good design needs to be as compact as possible whilst being as readable as possible. I think mainly it's beucase it's not healers who design these things despite healers being hte people who actualyl use them.

    To explain look at this picture of CT and CT with a bit of fiddling to make it more compact and yet more readable: http://www.radientmoon.com/images/ctra2.jpg

    So looking at Saroz's picture at the top of this thread I notice with approval a much more compact design than most with BIG health bars and small mana bars. I would still expand the health bars more and use a bigger font for the health number. Oddly enough I know the names of everyone in my raid already and it can be in a small font with no margin but the healing number needs to be as big as possible. There is no reason why '-9999' cannot be 80% of the width the the health bar and all of it's height.

    Just my 2c.

    Rach.

    PS A shameless repost of how I would like buffs to work in an ideal world:

    For raid buffs i would have my raid frame do something like the following:

    1) Let me filter buffs/debuffs so I only see the ones i care about.

    2) Have two filters -- in combat and out of combat -- and have them switch when i enter leave combat.

    3) Have a "show when unbuffed" option for each buff and have a small icon for <5min remaining and a larger one for unbuffed

    So when out of combat my raid frames should have nothing if everyone is buffed but show me icons when +sta or +spi is missing on individuals or groups. i.e. it should show me who is missing a buff not who has it as who is mising is what i need to know.

    When I go into combat the raid buffs go away and I see my combat buff/debuffs which are things like renew, pw:shield, druid HoTs, fear ward, etc.

    Looks good.

    Do you have the all important show deficit option? This is very importatn to most healers.

    Do you have an option to arrange groups horizantally like CT?

    One of the above is usually what what stops me using most CTRA replacements.

    I use CorkFu at the moment but I suspect it's solving a problem I don't really need. It's kind of broken in that you cannot see who is in which group which is essential when re-buffing a raid efficiently. Putting raids buffs on the raid frames just make far more sense to me.

    For raid buffs i would have my raid frame do something like the following:

    1) Let me filter buffs/debuffs so I only see the ones i care about.

    2) Have two filters -- in combat and out of combat -- and have them switch when i enter leave combat.

    The other thing that bugs me is that most raid frames seem to waste space in terms of their layout which is really annoying given the problems of fitting 40 man raids on the screen.
    I fiddle with CTRA to make it more space efficient and more readable, liek this:

    I did do a similar thing to XRaid (see http://www.mathematicallysafe.com/uploads/xraid-big.jpg) as well before going back to CT.

    posted a message on OneBag 2.0.6026 [Released 7/28/2006]
    Sorry my message was not the most helpful. I get the following errors at start up:

    ...\AceEvent-2.0.lua:42 attempt to call method 'argCheck' (a nil value)
    ...\AceAddon-2.0.lua:316 attempt to call method 'error' (a nil value)
    ...\OneBag\OneBag.lua:2 attempt to index global 'OneCore' (a nil value)

    After some disable/enable/reload faffing it turns out that if I disable Clique the problem goes away and OneBag/Bank works fine.

    I was using Clique off the wowinterface download and OneBag of the SVN, so I got the latest Clique off the SVN to get the Ace2s in step (I guess). This gave errors in Clique on startup (AceGlobal or something, sorry didn't write it down). This error went away when I deleted my Clique Saved Variables and after a bit of messing about both mods now work.

    Hope this helps.

    "What web software are you using?"

    I don't use any. My software dumps out static HTML which i then upload to the website Using php/mysql to display a limited set of numbers with no significant reporting/data miniing requirement strikes me as all sorts of wrong.

    (I knicked the HTML format and CSS from the football results in my local paper :) )

    To be more serious, my software is desinged to make fixing the numbers as easy as possible (ultimately it's all CSV/test so i can fix it in Excel/Notepad) and to avoid all the hassle of webside solutions, hosting, etc. etc.

    "could you or anyone point me in the direction to such a mod"

    There is a Perl script somewhere on curse-gaming that will convert CTRT's data into comma delimeted text files. From this you can probably get the information into something like eqDKP or similar using more Perl or similar. This half broke for the standard version of CTRT and didn't get fixed and I think it now works for the modded version of CTRT (also on curse).

    Or, since it's CSV, you can get it into Excel. Which is what I did before writing my software to do all the hard work for me. I could easily rip out the extraction stuff and make a standalone CTRT extraction tool if people would find that useful and do not objct to installing a windows .exe

    Rach.

    PS you can see a brief flash demo of my DKP at http://tinyurl.com/kkbw2 It's kind of clunky but quite powerful and makes my DKP job very quick and trivial. The output is at http://www.mathematicallysafe.com/dkp/ My sofware only does fixed prices zero sum becuase if you are using any other system you clearly didn't thing about the problem clearly enough :)

    "Of course I could zero out the database file from time to time, but that defeats the purpose of having an in-game, browsable raid tracker."

    How often do you actually look at this stuff? An in-game database for this just makes no sense at all even before size comes into consideration as WoW makes for a very bad data viewer and the data is of little value in its raw state. This stuff should be processed into DKP numbers put on a website and deleted from the game IMHO; you can always keep an archive of old saved variables if you really want to.

    Personally I use CTRT to capture data for a custom DKP tool I wrote for my guild and parse the data out to text files, add it up and generate some HTML for the website (raid end to published DKP < 3 mins \o/) and I don't think I've run the CTRT UI since I first installed it. It just seems kind of pointless to look at lists of stuff in a crap way when I can look at it in an eassy to view way on our website).

    In terms of an Ace'd version I would do the following:

    -- Make the data capture and UI entirely separate so people like me don't need to bother with the UI at all.

    -- Add some syncing to allow both some redundancy so that if one person crashes you don't lose all your data and also so that people out of range for loot messages don't miss data.

    -- Make it detect AFK and OFFLINE and record these like leaves and joins.

    -- Make what gets saved configurable (fixed price zero sum guilds like ours don't need all the extra stuff in the modifed version of CTRT).

    I'd also make offline tools available to deal with the data. e.g. I have a basic ETL tool takes raw data, filters and cleans it and writes human and machine friendly versions (CSV, XML), offline viewers, eqDKP uploaders, etc. etc. All of this stuff is trivial outside of WoW but near impossible inside WoW so I reckon you want to do raw data and only raw data in the game itself.

    Just my 2c.

    "What I want is an addon with these features

    * Ability to put values on items
    * The addon shows this value in the tooltip"

    IncDKP will do exactly this -- you edit a table to get item value and they end up in the tooltip. It will also track individual DKP scores as well and put them in the tool tip.
