Ive been using your addon awhile and its great. However just in the last week I'm having difficulties. The ACE3 and Libperiodic files are being rejected and the program keep trying to reinstall them over and over with no way to stop it. The program says these 2 files are not zip files. I have changed nothing - not sure what's happened. ANy advice?!

If you could upload your JWowupdater.log somewhere so i can have a look at it. (Right after using the updater and getting the error).

Also just deleting your Ace3 and LibPeriodic folders and just let JWU reinstall them might work.

ok, but my WAU showed me 2 updated addons this morning -> then I got JWU which updated nearly every addon -> startet WAU again it showed many addons to update

So what maybe I just didnt make that clear enough, but I didnt reload the index of WAU after using JWU... but I thought they would both use the WoWACE Archive to update so if I update with one of them and then use the other one again there shouldnt be more addons to update than before..

hm.. hope I could make it clearer what problem I have... and sorry for my bad english, my german is much better ;)

Simple answer, the updates are the same so they are all the newest. But just dont ever use 2 updaters on the same addons since it will most certainly cause problems.

I know this :), you can use System.getProperty("os.name") to set different locations, or an other idea :) the user can set an backup folder, if no folder is declared no backup is generated (only deleted Addons, if delete older version is checked)

if there are problems, the user can without problems go back to the previous maybe running Interface

ah and is it possible to set "use external" or not for single Addons?

    Throndorin

I dont want to start down the path of system dependant code, so there will be no recyclebin support. I guess i could add a backup option that just zips your interface folder. But really, my experience is, if an addon is behaving badly and throwing errors, usually its already fixed if you just update it again (Or it will be within 30min usually). So im not sure how usefull it would be to start backing up and reverting to older versions. Im running quite a big amount of addons, and i rarely if ever have problems with broken addons.

And im not going to add per addon external settings either. If 1 addon isnt working with externals not embedded, you should write to the author so he can fix his dependency list.

I have a new and an old question

    1. deleted Addons should be stored in recycle bin so its easy to go back if the update causes errors

    2. possibility to stop scan, if I open the updater second time, i maybe don't want to scan for new addons, maybe I want only to install a new one or delete an addon

    Throndorin

    1. Java is a platform independent language, and since not every platform has the notion of a recycle bin, this is not going to happen.

    2. With the latest version of JWU it will cache the list of addons, so if you open it several times within the timeout you set in options, it wont take nearly as long time second time.

Does the updater mix Cryolysis2 with Necrosis or something? When i update Cryolysis2 with the updater it suddenly stops working and the icons look like they come from necrosis.

No big deal though, cryolysis2 works fine as long as i dont use the updater.

I can't think of a way where it should mix the 2. Unless Necrosis is set as a lib needed for cryolysis, which sounds a little wierd if true.

Bug: If jwu errors from not being able to connect to wowace, then you close and open it again, it won't rescan, it seems to use the (empty?) cache and says everything is up to date.

Just press rescan if this happens.

    Addons that will be updated:

    All Ace addons are Up-2-Date

Checking which Non-Ace addons need updating...

    All Non-Ace addons are Up-2-Date

    You missed the WoWAce part.

Im not sure i get that?

    What is the problem?

-Checking which ace addons needs updating - should be WoWAce

Running the updater, then deleting the new cache file (.dat?) and running it again breaks wowace updating. It jams on checking and doesn't even time out.

The changelog might now be broken, I only updated once, and when it popped up after the update I saw the border of the window, but nothing in the window, just transparent.

    The hang error is fixed:

    1.93:
    - Fixed JWU hang if you deleted the new jwucache.dat

Regarding the changelog window, sometimes the swing thread is crashed, and im not 100% sure why. If the window is blank, drag it out of the screen and then back in, should fix it. Im still working on finding out what excactly causes it to crash that thread.

    New version out:

    1.91:
    - Added error message if a downloaded addon isnt in .zip format
    - Added caching of the wowace addon list, with variable cache length. (Settable from Config)
    - Self updater should no longer stay open if googlecode times out.

    *UDPATE*

    1.92:
    - Pressing rescan forces an update of the cache, even if it has still not reached the set timeout.

Turning off the automatic scan at the beginning wouldn't make any sense, because of the way JWU is working internally. It uses the information about what addons are ace and what are not for almost anything, so as soon as you pressed almost any of the buttons, JWU would download the list of wowace addons anyways (Which is what its doing when scanning).

So bottom line, i could easily add on/off for the initial scan, but i think most of you would be disappointed since it wont work as you expect.

Regardin wowinterface beta downloads, ill have to look into that.

I noticed a problem with jWU when updating from WowInterface.com.

When I opened jWU today, it reported that it had an update to MikScrollingCombatText and said it was updating and it was complete. However, because the new file was still getting checked by the wowinterface moderators and had not yet been released, jWU didn't actually download anything it seems or it downloaded the old version that I already have.

The next time that I loaded up jWU, it didn't report anything about a new MikScrollingCombatText, even though I had checked that the one in my addons folder was 5.13 and WowInterface reported 5.2.8, however, still not released.

You might need to add a check, to see if you actually did get the right download or if you need to redownload the correct file later, once it has been approved.

Checking if its the right download can prove to be almost impossible, as there isnt any 1 way to check for what version an addon is after sitting with its .zip file. Thats the problem with non uniform versioning from all the non wowace sites.

    Very nice, I get this though;

am I doing it wrong or is it a curse compatibility problem?

Looks like you didnt enter the ID of the 2 addons, try following the guide here:
    http://www.fambagge.dk/jwu/guide.html

    Then it should work :)

    my Java Version is "1.6.0_06"
cant you pls do a c++ version of that ?

First of all, make sure you unzip the JWowUpdater-1.90.zip from my googlecode page correctly. After unzipping there should be a folder called "lib" next to the JWowUpdater.jar, since your getting that error i assume you dont have the lib folder correctly unzipped.

And to address your second question. I wont be making a c++ version, since i believe Java is much nicer to program in. And after all this is JWU, the J kinda stands for Java :)
