Yeah you'd think that would work, I tried that from the beginning and it still doesn't work. - I pointed the jwowupdater .jar file to the latest java.exe and when I click the JWU .jar file the DOS window pops up real fast and closes.

That would be because it would make it try and run it as
    java JWowUpdater.jar

    where it should use
    java -jar JWowUpdater.jar

Try instead to point it to the javaw.exe im not sure if that works without the -jar command.

Or you could make a batch file with the following information:

    c:\path to java\javaw.exe -jar %1

and then point windows to that batch file when using open with. Then it would have the correct -jar command aswell.

Hope some of it works :)

I noticed that the alphabetic sorting is a bit weird. Addons starting with a lower case character are listed after the last Addon starting with a upper case character. Is there any reason for this?

Normally when you sort strings, most programming languages are case sensitive, which results in this behavior. Ive fixed this now, and it will be in the next release of JWU, but i just don't think this is a big enough bug to release a new version :)

But thanks for the heads up.

I updated Java and went to click and open jwowupdater and it wouldn't open. I uninstalled java, reinstalled rebooted a few times and it still wouldn't find the path. I went in and made sure it was pointing to the java.exe. Now when i click it, a dos window opens real fast and closes.

When i open DOS and follow your directions to open the jWowUpdater.jar it opens and works fine. Do you know why windows is not opening your .jar file from the folder? Or will I have to open the program from dos each time?

Thanks for your time and thanks for an awesome program. As a GM of many, I have most my clan using your program for almost a year now. :)

Sounds like your file association for .jar files have been messed up. They tell windows what to do when a file with a given extension (in this case .jar) is called.

I am not 100% sure how you restore the original .jar behavior if reinstalling java didn't work. But i am pretty sure that this is your problem :/

i tested my Java and its working, so I dont know.
And i dont know how you get 6u10? the latest update that i can see is 6u7.

    Vendor: Syn Microsystems Inc
    Version: Java 6 update 7
    OS: Windows Vista

Also, how do i run JWU from a console? :D

    Cheers

Java 6 update 10, is still in beta, but i tried to install it to see if that was the problem. (I had Java 6 update 7 before).

To run JWU in a console, first go to your startmenu and type cmd in the text field in the bottom.

Then you should get a console up.

Then switch to the directory where you have JWU installed, with the "cd somepath" command.

Finally run JWU with this command:

    "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\java -jar JWowUpdater.jar"

(Use what ever path your java.exe file is installed in)

Great application, been using it for a while without any prob, until 2 days ago.
there was an update avilable for Java, after the update this application stopped working...
Its loading and shows the loading screen but its bit opening, nothing happens.
Any idea what the problem is?

I just tried installing all the latest updates i could find from suns page. Which was java 6 u10, and java 5u16, neither of these versions have any problems running JWU on my computer.

Could you try running JWU from a console, to see if it spits out some exception?

Okay I did that and it says that Java is not recognized as an internal or external command. Yet java is installed on my computer.

Then the java binary is not present in your PATH variable, but that is not a big problem.

change the "java" command to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\java" or "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\java" or where ever you find your java.exe installed in :)

    Then try running it again.

This is what I have in the folder I unpacked the original download into:

    JWowUpdater <folder>
    lib <folder>
    changelog.txt
    JWowUpdater.jar
    README.TXT

Been double-clicking on the JWowUpdater to no avail. Created batch file to execute the following:

    java -jar JWowUpdater.jar

    Still no go.

Try adding, pause, to the end of the batch file, to see any error messages that might be hidden by the command prompt window closing.

Yes, I'm a noob. I've tried this but all I ever get is a command prompt that disappears right away and nothing else. Running Vista SP1 with Java 1.6.0 on my machine. Any direction?

You might not have the Libs directory unpacked from the JWowUpdater.zip file.

Make sure its next to the JWowUpdater.jar file.

Is it possible to check which addons are using each library? The reason i ask is because i'm trying to replace everything Ace2 with Ace3.

Hmm, JWU already has the needed information about dependencies, i will just have to come up with a good way of presenting the information. Ill see what i can do, but no promises as to when it will be done :)

I'll admit that I haven't read all of this thread but I wanted to post and say thankyou for an excellent updater.

I expecially like the TOC/Embeds cleaning and the variable cleaning functions of this software.

I do have one request... would it be possible to add the download details for auctioneer advanced (both release and beta versions) to the software... or even better, allow end users to specify new addon url's / websites to download from?

This would mean that end users would not be limited to just curse/wowui/wowint for their non-ace addons.

If this could be accomplished it would make this updater surpass all others instantly :)

Very nice work though.. I use it daily :DD

This is one of the main features i am working on in JWU2, to make addon sites addable via regular expressions and urls. Its still in the making though, and needs a lot of work, so sit tight meanwhile :)

No - my last update was 10-12 hours before that and Rescan didn't solve the problem too. (I think it was server problem but I'm not quite sure.)

Sounds like it could have been a server problem, but its hard to tell :)

    Hello!

So, now i use JWowUpdater instead WAU and all is perfect...
just wondering what happen if u have : with external ENABLE, delete before updating ENABLE and just some lib need to be update..all the folder is delete and jwupdater reinstall the addon + updated lib? or just install updated lib without delete folder before to preserve the addon?

    i am little curious :)

    Thanks.

If you have externals enabled, and delete before update enabled, it will delete the whole addon directory and install the addon+libs again.

This is how its supposed to be, as with externals the downloaded addon zip file already contains the addon + libs, so the easiest thing to do is just delete and unpack the new zip file :)

I'm using JWU only for files.wowace.com, all of my addons are reported as up-to-date, and I'm sure that Ace2 and AckisRecipeList has been updated :) (maybe more, but I really don't want to check Fisheye again)
edit: I checked again right now and everything is fine, I have the updates... :D

Ill guess that you tried to update the addons again within 10min or something since you updated last time.

JWU caches the list of addons and versions from wowace.com, so unless you go to config and set the cache timeout really low, or press "Rescan" yourself, then it wont have the latest version within the time set as cache timeout. Since its not re downloading the list.

i started using jwu this week (1.98). today it seemed to be crashing completely (with no error) during updates. i have it set to show the changes on completion and today when i ran it, it kept closing during the update with no change window shown. because it closed immediately, i didn't get to see any possible messages in the built-in output window. it seemed like it was doing some updates before each crash and i finally got through them after about 4 times of opening it. i was presented with the changes screen finally on that last try. not sure what the problem is.

This sounds very weird, could you upload your JWowUpdater.log somewhere, after the program has crashed? Maybe if you run JWU from a command prompt, it might give an error message to help clarify what is going on.

I started using JWowUpdater today and it's great. But I found some small bugs:

    1) Most of the dialog windows can't be closed with the close-button (upper right corner of the window).
    2) Sometimes the changelog window isn't drawn correctly. Then the changelog window seems empty, but if I hide and reshow the window, the changelog is visible (also works partially, so if I just hide parts of the window, only that parts get painted if they get visible again).
    3) Splitted non-WowAce Addons are not recognized correctly. For example: I have configured Atlas to be updated from WowInterface, but Atlas_OutdoorRaid, Atlas_FlightPaths and so on still show up in the "Not Monitored" list.

JRE 1.6.0_06 on Windows XP Prof SP3.

    1) This has been pointed out before, but it is intentionall, the windows isnt supposed to be closed, but rather "ended" with a press of the correct button.

    2) This has something to do with a thread accesing swing components, but i havent been able to track it down, as its only a visual bug, its not considered as fatal to fix. And hopefully the new redesigned ui for JWU2 wont have this error.

    3) JWU isnt supposed to recognice split non-wowace addons, thats how its supposed to be, this might also be added as a feature for JWU2, where it remembers directories unzipped from an addon and therefor knows they belong together.
