    Rolf,

Thanks for keeping JWU alive! The latest update does however break compatability with many of your current users such as myself because we can't install Java 6 (requires a 64-bit processor, at least for mac users). I remember we ran into this a long time ago and that time you just rolled back the java useage since you weren't actually relying on anything in java 6 per se. If you can continue to release JWU under Java 5 that would be awesome, if it is no longer possible because you need functions in Java 6, I completely understand.

This problem has been raised as an issue on the googlecode project page, and it looks like someone had a fix for it:

    http://code.google.com/p/jwowupdater/issues/detail?id=43&can=1

As i dont have a mac, or even know someone that could lend me one, i cant tell you if it works.

I haven't seen any word if third-party (or second...?) downloaders are allowed in the future. Wouldn't make much sense, would it? Because they too would circumvent the ads (not that any halfbrained has no control on ads...) on curse and the downloaders would most probably made public for everyone to use.

The way the new JWU works, users has to find the addon on the site they want to download from, and then copy the url. So i guess that gives at least some ad time on the first initial adding of each addon.

I honestly dont know though :/

For everyone who has really cool features they want to see added in JWU after the 2.0 release.

Im still in the progress of writing my thesis, and therefor the time avaliable to work on JWU might be very limited.

So feel free to suggest features, but remember that it might be a while before they are considered/implemented.

I just felt i had to get a working version out before the big WotLK patch :)

Now the fun comes with finding a way to sort which version to download from Curse? Or do you just artificially strip the libs for nolib support, provided the user has locations set up for all needed libs, too?

Atm JWU uses the most simple form of downloading the "latest version", it gets the file with the latest date.

And there are currently no support for the old "no externals" version of addons, as this isnt something all the sites have.

I am happy to announce that i found some time during the weekend to work on JWU2. But instead of releasing JWU2 i decided to move the new updater core into JWU, and then do a release of JWU.

    What this means is:
JWU sports a super tuned new updater core.
JWU now supports updating again from all your favorite sites :)

This also means that the new layout that was planned for JWU2 has been postponed, but might find its way into JWU at some point.

JWU now handles all addons as it earlier handled non wow ace addons. This means you will have to add all your addons to the list of handled addons. However, this process has been simplified, since you just copy & paste the url of the addons page on one of the supported addon sites.

Supported addons sites as of right now:

    wowace.com
    wowinterface.com
    curse.com
    curseforge.com

    Enjoy everyone.

    /Rolf

*Edit* Ohh and i found my password for my old wowace account, so i can post correctly again :)

Looks like you havent correctly set the path to your wow directory.

Go to config and point JWU to your warcraft directory, that should fix the problem.

    Update:

    1.100:
    - Fixed updating from CURSE, as they had changed their layout

Updating from Curse should be working again, but all your id's will have to be changed for the new shortnames.

    As an example:

Questhelper used to be ID, 9924, from curse, but now the url for Questhelper looks like:

    http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/quest-helper.aspx

and the new id to set in jwu would be: quest-helper

    Hope it works for everyone.

i'm using the "delete before updating" option which works - but the deletions are not being sent to the recycle bin.

everything else works like a charm though! i download without externals (i have separate lib folders), unpack addons, etc.

any idea how come the deleted addons aren't being sent to the recycle bin? thanks :)

Because java dosent support operating system recycle bins, so its just being deleted.

Sorry to everyone who have replied within the last 8 days, ive been away on holiday to Cypress so havent been able to check this forum.

Ill try and get up to speed with all the questions.

Regarding the future of JWU, then it will probabely stop working when wowace changes to the new layout, but hopefully JWU2 wont be far behind, with updating capabilities for wowace.

As for the non working updates (Dominos and Cartographer 3), which site was this that was not working?

Regarding addons from non wowace sites, which have libraries included. No JWU wont delete these libraries, but, it shouldnt be necessary to delete them manually either. As most libraries are made to only load if they arnt already loaded, and only load the latest version if more are present. (At least thats my understanding)

i dled the new version of Java and your jwowupdater but i can not get it to run.. if i double click the .jar file dos pops up and goes away really quick but nothing else happens.

i tried to use the command "java -jar JWowUpdater.jar" and i get the message..
exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/jdesktop/layout/grouplayout$Group
at jwowupdater...... and says a lot of at's i dont know if you need them if so i will type them out

    also i am using XP

    please help thank you

    xanes

It looks to me as if you didnt get the .zip file unpacked correctly, as your missing the lib directory.

Try unpacking the JWowUpdater zip file again and make sure that the lib directory is extracted and is placed next to JWowUpdater.jar, then it should work.

jwowupdater breaks my addon by moving the external libraries out of it when someone installs. Actually it's not jwowupdater's fault - the issue is one of the externals is old and so unless "load out of date addons" is ticked it stops it working. It is SpecialEvents-Aura-2.0 that is the problem. See here: http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=11839.msg230099#msg230099

My question is what can I do to my addon (RaidBuffStatus) to either tell jwow to not move the externals or to not move just that one external?

JWU dosent move out externals, people can choose to install your addon either with or without externals. If its installed with externals, it is just downloaded from files.wowace.com, and it will choose the .zip file that has all externals included and just unpack that normally.

If they choose to install without externals, JWU will download the .zip file that resides in the no-ext subdirectory of files.wowace.com, and then try to download all the needed externals as stand alone addons.

Normally there shouldnt be any problem with ticking "load out of data addons", as some addons work just fine even though wow has switched toc version, and there is no reason to update the addon just for a toc change ig its working.

So i really dont see the problem. Either set JWU to use externals, or just tick "load out of date addons".

I have manually made an empty txt file in my TourGuide(not a wowace addon, updated from wowinterface) addon directory.
In JWowUpdater I've selected the option "Delete before updating".
I would have guessed that the files was deleted, but it's still there after TourGuide was updated by JWowUpdater.

Delete before update only works for wowace addons, since JWU dosent keep track of what directories are within zip files downloaded from other sites.

When I point it to javaw.exe it gives me this error: Can not find the main class: Program will exit.

I have made sure the permission are set to full and my classpath = .;C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\lib\ext\QTJava.zip

I am running the new version of Java = jre1.6.0_07 So the classpath seems screwy.

I can execute the .jar files from DOS(like you gave as an example), but when I double click on any .jar file I get that dos screen above and nothing opens.

Thanks a lot for reading and helping me rolfba. :)

Hmm, only solution i can think of is making the batch file then, and using that for running the jar files, instead of java or javew.

    runjar.bat:

    c:\path to java\java.exe -jar %1

Edit: ups, was supposed to say %1, not JWowUpdater.jar since this was to be a generic java batch file for dbl clicking .jar files.

Thanks rolfba for a quick response. I think my problem is a classPath problem. Yes I can run jwu when I use your example by opening it in DOS, but I would like to run it from clicking your .jar file.

This error, the one I posted with the pic, comes up when I try to run any java app.

I know this isn't a jwu problem, just thought you might know. :) Thanks.

No its not a class path problem, look 2 posts up, ive explained what the problem is, just before you posted the screenie. Its because you have the dbl click set up so the parameter -jar isnt passed and then java dosent know its supposed to open a .jar file, and therefor gives you the error you have.

Try one of the solutions i posted above :)
